- Album tracklist: Killer (feat. Jae Chong), Coincidence

Y'all. Baby V.O.X dropped new music (sort of but not technically) for the first time since 2016. This is legitimately one of the OG girl groups, older than all of the members of ATEEZ, the same age or older than all of the members of Stray Kids. We would not have K-Pop as we do without them. I was just glancing through the list of new releases and I saw this. Now, granted, these are re-releases of their old songs (one from 1999 and the other from 2002, which again are older than some of the members of entire K-Pop groups, which is crazy to think about), and neither of them have an accompanying music video, so I basically flipped a coin about which to cover on here from this single. Now, you could argue, "Fangirl, if they didn't actually release new music and there's no new music video, like with Fiestar, then why are you doing this when you have other songs you probably should be reviewing?" And that's a valid point. Smaller groups and soloists that I've never heard of that I could introduce y'all to. OSTs and singles and all sorts of things. There are so many. But it's also my mission specifically for the first gen groups to be introduced to people, so this is a great opportunity for that. One again, I'm having to write this on my phone, so apologies for any mistakes. I'll fix them on my laptop when I return.
Coincidence was originally released in 2002 and full disclosure, I haven't actually heard the original.
There's a strong latin vibe to the instrumentals, and it's strong enough that my brain is trying to convince me that the language I'm listening to is Spanish. And actually I had my mother listen to it and she first said "This sounds like something out of My Big Fat Greek Wedding." And then, puzzled expression on her face, she said, "Are you sure this is in Korean? Because I keep thinking I hear Spanish but I recognize none of the words." I laughed and showed her the first part of this paragraph. Sorry. Side-tracked. I'm just genuinely delighted by this song and immediately wanted to share it. This feels like such a party song. It's great. Your hands will want to go in the air and wave.
Like I said, my brain is trying to convince me this is Spanish when I know very well that it is not. But the vibes and the style. I suppose it could also be on the trot side. I haven't listened to enough trot to be able to say whether or not a song definitely is, but the very fun thing about this song is that even though I haven't heard the original (I'll be rectifying that because, spoilers, I'm using the original music video), there's a delightful maturity in their voices. There are places where I'm pretty sure they were higher pitched and cuter, but with age usually comes lower voices. And we get brief little flashes of vibrato at the end of the lines, which with my vibrato obsession is a fabulous thing. I'm all about this song. It's so good.
Apparently they do sing in Spanish at the beginning! Nice! Also, don't be surprised when you get a random other song in the middle. And then the second video is the song I'm actually talking about. Not the original.
