Song Review:: ALL(H)OURS: Smoke Point- GIMME GIMME

  • Release date: 2025 February 04

  • Album tracklist: Smoke Point, Graffiti, GIMME GIMME, Kings & Queens, Freaky Fresh

  • Album runtime: 12 minutes

You know what I'm going to say, don't you? The runtime? That doesn't even average out to two and a half minutes a song. Dropping the just-over-a-minute track does raise the average, but it can never achieve something I'm comfortable with because there isn't a single track where the length of it is over 3 minutes.

This is quite a grindy sounding rock instrumental that throws the song into frenetic energy for much of it. Rather than maintain this breathtaking speed through the entire song, there is a point where the listener does get a moment of a breather. The change in tempo is a welcome surprise just so that we can have some variation. It also has a strong techno grip to the sound. I'm reminded a little of the intro blitzball scene of Final Fantasy X, but I'm also reminded of SHINee between 2009 and 2012, so if I could combine the two things, that's where the instrumentals of this song are.

Vocally, this song reminds me of mid-2000s second gen releasing music in the early 2010s. There are a lot of the same quirks, rapping styles, vocals styles, that come out of those groups that are echoed here. In line with that, what should be hitting my brain in a not good way (the repeated "Gimme gimme gimme gimme") reminds me a lot of Sorry Sorry by Super Junior and other songs of that style and vibe. It's not quite as earwormy as Ring Ding Dong, but you could absolutely see some similarities here with Lucifer, and I'm definitely reminded of Fantastic Baby, so that's where we're at for this. It's not my favorite song from the album, but it's definitely fierce enough to be in my workout playlist.

Hello, storyline. I do have to admit that I was thoroughly distracted because I was trying to figure out when this was filmed. But it's also sort of like a science fiction Mad Max, rather than a wasteland dystopia. Or a science fiction western. It's very intense and lovely.
