Music Show Wins:: Week of 04/22 - 04/28

Image
  The BigHit domination continues, with the one to follow BTS being their very own little brothers. It feels a bit like they were passing on the torch, which makes me smile. There was also a Grand Slam (still have not looked that up and no one is correcting me so we're assuming that I'm correct) this week, so congrats! Surprise! We got three extra stages this time: two from Show Champion and one from Show! Music Core . Obviously because TXT won, I had to add on an ALL'N performance (please refer to last week's wins if you're unfamiliar with their adorable meet-cute in the elevator). And interestingly, that performance has a surprisingly high number of views for a freshly debuted soloist not in a decently sized company or from a group, more so than some of the other stages I shared. The other two extras I shared, because I can share what I want, were Donghae and Be Boys. (Just to make it obvious what I'm doing in case you're new here and missed the irritati...

November 2025 Wrap-Up: Happy Burstday To You

Image
 By the time you read this, there will be less than a month left in 2025, which is crazy because it feels like January was simultaneously two months ago and also eighteen years ago.  First up, we have the debuts. Technically one of these that I covered was in fact posted in December, but I am counting it because it was a November debut, though not for a group. The group I covered was AM8IC , a boy group made up entirely of Chinese members that is based in South Korea and debuting in South Korea in K-Pop. I wanted to be very specific about this. The only other group I can think of that's this interesting in terms of demographics, starting location, and target audience is 1verse, which also doesn't have a South Korean in the group. Anyway, they debuted this month. And for the solo debut that I covered, that would be Jungwoo of NCT , right before his impending military enlistment. This means that all three members of the NCT subunit DoJaeJung will be in the military within the we...

Song Review:: Lovelyz: November

Image
Release date: 2024 November 12 Album tracklist: November Album runtime: 3 minutes  This is apparently the month for returning acts who haven't been active in years, in this case four. Hello, Lovelyz. It's nice to meet you, and happy almost anniversary.  It's funny. Despite the similarities with the bright, airy tone favored by many of the groups to debut after their last release, there's something rather solid about the instrumentals here. They are weighted down and grounded, obviously relying on the percussion, but the piano too provides a great counterbalance as the notes it plays are at least an octave, maybe two, beneath the main melody. Other than the chiming that is an infrequent participant to the instrumentals and rarely alongside the lyrics, most of what we get supporting the members' voices are in the mid- to mid-low range.  We got vibrato and soaring ad-libs in this lovely (pun partially intended) anniversary song, alongside breath-supported voices, and I...
