 This is going to be an eclectic mix of songs this month. I asked my best friend from middle school to give me a song for this month back in May, I think, and she finally decided on a song in October. This isn't that one. I just want y'all to know that you're going to be getting a lot of songs I just feel like doing and after October, I'm launching y'all into November with a song I love so much. Every time I see either god or IU's names I start singing the beginning of this song. It's fully a vocal stim for me, but it's one of my favorite openings to a song, K-Pop or otherwise. Normally, I'd say something like "I'm pretty sure most of y'all have never heard of them" except god has popped up twice in my monthly recaps for songs I was listening to a lot of that month and they were at KCon LA 2024. It's a good way to force me to do it. I almost was lazy and picked a song I know I did a review for, but since that song has gotten wins, I would rather point out the smaller groups. Although I will also point out how nauseating the runtime is. Less than two-and-a-half minutes. There's still something slightly pastel-like about the song, but it's kind of a daffodil yellow. This is a very bright song without too much weighing it down, but without a strong sense of playfulness that I wish that I could hear. I think this is a pre-release, which is why I'm labelling it like I am.  One of my big complaints about a lot of songs lately is that the instrumental isn't particularly distinct, because so many of them, including this one, are largely two or three beats layered together through most of the song with very little variation. This one at least has the benefit of water plunks and plops, and I cannot express how briefly excited I was about twenty seconds from the end, but it just wasn't enough to overcompensate for the repetition. I am so late with this, but I was not going to skip this because it's the big 2-0 and I would have to make an entire other post to talk about why BIGBANG requires acknowledgement as one of the biggest playmakers in shaping what K-Pop became. I find it amusingly fitting that their company was founded by a member of the boy group generally acknowledged to be the first K-Pop group: SeoTaiji and Boys. While this song is of a suitable length, the runtime as a whole ain't it. That averages out to about two-and-a-half minutes, and that's with one almost three. It's so nice to have a younger group that isn't on Underage Protocol because then I get to really listen to the songs. This instrumental feels like a boss fight in Nier: Automata , especially in the chorus, although there are spots where both the number and intensity of the instruments drops a bit, providing a great contrast. I love how the song doesn't start with the instrumental, because that means we get a tiny bit of a cappella. There's very little actual softness to the song though, but even in the quieter moments, there's almost a metallic quality to it.  The line "I'm an .exe" makes me snort every time I hear it because my brain goes "Executab...

Unfortunately, a lot of the "new songs" are AI and don't actually belong to the group. Ghost9, for instance, had 33 of them uploaded over a single weekend, and the weekend I started this review, I saw AI tracks that need to be reported for HotShot, LABOUM, BAE173, TIOT, and TFN. That just makes it harder for the legitimate songs and releases to get attention, especially with the older groups because if I was trying to get into K-Pop now, I'd be so confused and I might be a bit turned off from K-Pop as a whole. They put on a pretty good concert, even with how small that venue was, and I like a lot of their music. EXCEL is still my favorite song of theirs, but even then, they've released a few other songs I like nearly as well. I'm just happy that they're still active. I really am. There is a specific level of sultry drama in the instrumental. While the instrumental has the slow beat that lets the ong have a little bit of an inherent weight, the actual instruments being used are largely light and high. The instrumental uses the heavy weight of a lone percussion as punctuation for the song instead of letting the ong ahve a swagger weight through the whole thing. I'm sure you're all aware that I try to pay specific attention to the first Gen groups when they drop new music. We need the co-ed groups to stay active because there are so few of them. Ah, listen to that saxophone at the beginning. I wish it lingered a little bit more throughout the song, but it pops up enough that I'm okay with it not being present throughout. Funnily enough, when the saxophone isn't around, it sounds like video game menu music for something that's brightly colored with cute animals. It's kind of Viva Pinata, you know? There's a bright intensity to the instrumental that is slow enough that it doesn't feel aggressive or frenetic. Most of this is due to the electric guitar and the drums being as steady and present as they are, and honestly, even though there isn't a lot of variation going on in the instrumental, it's not gratingly repetitive in a way that makes me twitchy, which is a good thing.
