Music Show Wins:: Week of 03/19 - 03/25

Image
  Well, all sorts of groups got wins this week, along with a Triple Crown! Congrats to all the groups for their first win for the songs! There isn't a single song that won on more than one show this week, which I like for the sake of diversity, and that means lots of different stages to share with you all. Also, three of the wins were with YG affiliated soloists/groups. After School Club had TNX (the group formerly known as The New Six) on, which was cool for them to talk about their new song before it comes out. Also, the amount of times they said something like "We didn't ask the company for permission, but it's fine" was hysterical, and one of the five of them is an absolute character. He's a delight. Also, the MCs on ASC announced this was the final episode of season 1 of ASC, which has lasted for twelve years, so they'll be going on hiatus for a little bit before the next season. So rather than just not include an ASC performance at all, because I can...

Song Review:: TREASURE: PLEASURE- YELLOW

Image
Release date: 2025 March 07 Album track list: YELLOW; SARURU; WHATEVER, WHENEVER; LAST NIGHT Album runtime: 13 mi nutes  And TREASURE is back, bringing with them all the capital letters they've stolen! This is a joke, but alternatively, that's a lot of capital letters this album has. I'm very excited for them. It doesn't look like they've dropped a Korean album since 2023, which makes this long overdue even if it is only a four song special mini album. Now that YGE has remembered they're supposed to be promoting their artists, I hope this is only a prelude of more music to come, and that some of those singles get added to mini albums or full albums in the near future. But the song length? Absolutely yes. The instrumentals are delightfully minimalistic. And by delightfully minimalistic, I mean they're so bright and cheerful that even though there's not much going on even as the song reaches the climax, I find myself irresistibly drawn to dancing a little...

Song Review:: Bang Yedam (Treasure): Study Group PT 2- Hollo {OST}

Image
Release date: 2025 January 30 Album tracklist:  Hollo , Hollo - Instrumental, Hollo - Drama Version, Hollo - (Drama Version) [Instrumental] Album runtime: 16 minutes  Do I have other songs I should probably be reviewing because they're actual title tracks and not OSTs? Yes. Do I have this and another set up to review instead? Also, yes. But, in my defense, I love Bang Yedam's voice now that I've discovered it, and also this is an OST for my boy Minhyun's newest drama, which I'm obviously going to support because it's Minhyun. Also, I have some options about what to review because this comes with multiple versions, but I think I'm just going to go with the vanilla version. Even though part of me is arguing quite loudly for the drama version instead. I would have been happy with just the piano, but the introduction of the other instruments takes what started off as an incredibly melancholic sound and turns it into something a lot more hopeful. Because the laye...

Song Review:: TREASURE: PLEASURE- LAST NIGHT

Image
Release date: 2025 March 07 Album track list:  YELLOW ;  SARURU; WHATEVER, WHENEVER;  LAST NIGHT Album runtime: 13 mi nutes Well, we just got some news on the near future of the group. It's nice that the company remembered that they existed and decided to get them out of the pasture where they'd been retired. I kind of feel like they weren't even locked in the basement. But! YGE needed them, and so they've been returned to work.  This song reminds me so much of Good Time  by Owl City. It's not even funny. I was sitting here for five minutes humming until I could recall lyrics and then one short search later, and I got the song I was thinking of. The instrumentals here are so similar. I'm also reminded of early 00s Disney Channel star pop or late 00s boy band pop with how very bright this song is. The grungy bass popping in to accompany the rapping is a good change of pace within the song, getting it just a little dark and messy to sully the brightness of th...
