Music Show Wins:: Week of 05/21 - 05/27

  This introduction is going to be a bit shorter because I need to ease myself back into this (and also I forgot to publish this on time...). This week was a pretty clean sweep, which was exciting for the group and the fans! Whoo! For the After School Club rerun, it's one from 2023! Mirae was very cute talking about how the entire group has bad eyesight, but they're generally a pretty fun group if this is any indication. I don't know a whole lot about the group, but from this? I could like them. Show Champion: tripleS "Are You Alive" MCountdown: BOYNEXTDOOR "I Feel Good" Music Bank: BOYNEXTDOOR "I Feel Good" Show! Music Core: BOYNEXTDOOR "I Feel Good" Inkigayo: BOYNEXTDOOR "I Feel Good" ASC Performance: 20230731  Mirae "JUMP!" Song Reviews:: BOYNEXTDOOR: No Genre- I Feel Good

Release date: 2025 May 13 Album tracklist: 123-78; I Feel Good ; Step By Step; Is That True?; Next Mistake; IF I SAY, I LOVE YOU ; I Feel Good (Eng Version) Album runtime: 17 minutes  Well, well, well. I've been seeing this song recommended to me all over the place and I was resisting it. (I am intending to actually sit down and watch some of those stages because I've heard some good stuff about them.) I did double check on ages because they're still fairly young, but maknae turned eighteen last year, so we're golden. Not so golden on the album runtime, bur it's a perpetual disappointment from HYBE groups for me across the board lately. Doesn't mean I'm not going to comment on it, because I'd like to make sure people are aware that HYBE has been stiffing their fans, but it is what it is. The rock elements to the song are large and in charge here, but it's also surprisingly mellow. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say the song is in the vicinity of...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 01/15 - 01/21

  Most of the music shows are back on, which means the live stage performances, which I love best, are back in almost full force. We get more variety again! So, this week had another triple crown, which is exciting because once again, he got it without promoting the song other than the one performance. We got two first wins for songs, which is absolutely delightful for the groups. I'm so happy for them. On After School Club, Allen and Taeyoung rejoined as MCs with Aron for WEi, a five member boy group that debuted in 2020. There are some very cute dimples going on, some excellent English skills, more going for Taeyoung's MC job here, and some throwing the other members under the bus. That's always fun to see.  As always, the links in the chart go to my reviews. Show Champion: N/A MCountdown: BOYNEXTDOOR "If I Say, I Love You" (note: this performance is from the 250109 episode) Music Bank: BSS (Seventeen) "CBZ (Prime Time)"  Show! Song Review:: BOYNEXTDOOR: No Genre- IF I SAY, I LOVE YOU

Release date: 2025 May 13 Album tracklist: 123-78;  I Feel Good ; Step By Step; Is That True?; Next Mistake;  IF I SAY, I LOVE YOU ; I Feel Good (Eng Version) Album runtime: 17 minutes  Ah, Zico's kids. Bless. We're starting off the year with a single, and it's a proper single instead of a multi-track single. This is their first digital single, the whole group are eighteen or older, and they've been pretty busy the last little bit. These are all things I like. Also, they turn two this year! How exciting! May update: turns out that was actually a pre-release track. It's cool. That's a dramatic keyboard to start this thing off. It's almost the equivalent of flinging open double doors and throwing a long coat off to the side while posing. It's got a deep-rooted funky streak to it that holds the song hostage the entire time, from when it softens into silence or near silence to the fun-loving dance break at the end. I've got a pretty strong idea of what t...

Song Review:: BOYNEXTDOOR: 19.99- Dangerous {Pre-Release}

Image
  Release date: 2024 September 09 Album tracklist:  Dangerous , Gonna Be A Rock, SKIT,  Nice Guy , 20, Call Me, Nice Guy (English Vers.) Album runtime: 18 minutes Am I reviewing this after the title track? Yes. So if you're reading this before the review for the title track of 19.99, well, that's fine. That's my fault. This song is funky, and it belongs in a 1970s/1980s' police comedy movie, but it must also be a parody. It specifically belongs in the fight scene where things should be going terribly wrong, but they're failing so well, that they're actually succeeding in a ludicrous series of events.  That feels incredibly specific, but that's what the instrumentals are saying. I really don't have more than that to say. I have a feeling that I'm going to be disappointed by the music video because I love the vibes of the song so much. Vocally, they remind me of a group of teenagers who are swaggering around because they think they're top dog, but ...

Song Review:: BOYNEXTDOOR: 19.99- Nice Guy

Release date: 2024 September 09 Album tracklist: Dangerous , Gonna Be A Rock, SKIT, Nice Guy , 20, Call Me, Nice Guy (English Vers.) Album runtime: 18 minutes I really enjoyed watching them perform at KCon LA, more than I thought I would. They weren't the highlight of my attendance by any stretch of the word, but I do think they've got quite a bit of potential. I love how funky and weird the instrumentals are. I'm a big fan of how there have been quite a few songs lately that have gone 70s in tone, and this song just adds to the number. It even has the horns, chimes, and organ that you so often hear from disco. The synth makes me giggle with its "wowow". It's my favorite part of the song.  Their vocals seem a little nasally, but not too badly, but otherwise they're matching the instrumentals. There's a fun, little groove the members are strutting around with. It's really cute. I'm not sure they're at their first year yet, but there have bee...
