Song Review:: OH MY GIRL: Weather Diary

Image
Release date: 2025 July 22 Album tracklist: Weather Diary , Weather Diary (Inst.) Album runtime: 6 minutes  I am fairly confident in saying that this is their tenth anniversary release that was first heard in their concert back in April. Do I get a little twitchy around tenth anniversaries? Yes. But I'd have heard if the d-word has applied to them, and it hasn't. So, yay! Also, I'm quite pleased for the song length. Songs seem to be both lengthening and shortening these days. and obviously I'm an advocate for them being at minimum three minutes long. OH MY GIRL delivered on that here. The good news is that even though this is a pretty relaxed song, it's actually got quite a lot of different bits making up the instrumental, which makes the mellowness feel intentional, rather than an apathetic consequence. A stronger drum line would make this song quite energetic, but the song doesn't need it. This is a ten year anniversary song, and a sense of celebration, but no...

Song Review:: OH MY GIRL: Oh My

Release date: 2025 April 09 Album tracklist: Oh My Album runtime: 3 minutes  Happy tenth anniversary!! That's super exciting for the group and for the fans as well to be able to celebrate ten years of hard work and good music.  Are OH MY GIRL's songs summery, strictly speaking? I don't know. I don't know enough of their discography to know that for sure. Is this one? Absolutely. It's a little bit funky, but in a light and bright way that feels like a mature summer day in the middle of July when the leaves are large, full, and deep green, the grass in shady areas is still lush and green, but yellowing and a little sunburnt outside of that, and the sky is that gorgeous blue you can only see in summer. It's settling down under some trees in a hammock with a book, gently swaying and completely at peace. Do you want to move with this song? Maybe? But it's too comfortable to want to put too much effort into. I love the rapping in this song. It does such a good job...

Song Review:: OH MY GIRL: Dreamy Resonance- Classified

Image
Release date: 2024 August 26 Album tracklist: Classified , Start Up, La La La La, Sway (YOU and I), Love Me Like You Do, Heavenly Album runtime: 20 minutes Oh, look! It's the girl group that has a member who was in the Kdrama that started me on this path. Even if their voices are usually too high pitched for me to really enjoy, I'm still fond of them. And oh, my gosh. I love this song. The back instrumentals sound so much like a JRPG I instantly fell in love. What could have been vacuous and fluffy instead is orchestral and magnificent. This would not have been out of place in a Final Fantasy. Which I'm so here for. Starting with the piano and then layering in strings and a ticking clock? Fantastic. I like stringed instruments. I really  like stringed instruments. This is another song that I'd love to just have the soundtrack to, and I'd definitely add it to one of my instrumental playlists. Just beautiful. Another thing that I'm a huge fan of is going up and do...
