GREATEST HITS:: NU'EST W (NU'EST): HELP ME

Image
 Sentimentality here. The fifteenth was their anniversary, and Baekho left Pledis on the fourteenth, and I had my car accident on the thirteenth. It has been a rough few days emotionally and while I had a plan to do another group, the car accident confirmed for me that I should just do this for their anniversary, even though typing for long periods of time (such as doing this) hurts my wrist. And I picked a NU'EST W song, because the W stands for waiting, and that's what we're doing: waiting for them to come back. And I'm not masochistic enough to do Where You At , which got them their first win at all since debut, or Deja Vu , which is so beloved that it also got performed as five later. NU'EST W is the subunit formed after their appearance on Produce 101 S2 until 2019 with the return of Minhyun to the group. The album, Wake, N, hit number on the Korean charts, and this song got a win on Music Bank, which makes it the subunit's fourth win. In 2018. In December ...

Song Review:: Baekho (NU'EST): OFF-ROAD

Image
Release date: 2025 March 14 Album track list:  OFF-ROAD Album runtime: 2 mi nutes ...I would have done this sooner, but the car accident put a slight damper on my productivity. In other news, coloring is really nice when you're having a lot of emotions and you don't want to actively do anything about them.  Happy Thirteenth Anniversary, Baekho. I hope you find a good home. And this is just over two minutes. Baekho. My dude. Why. Okay. We've got a very warm set of instrumentals here. It actually feels like sunshine, and I'd think that even if the cover art didn't look like it does. Even though the the percussion is quite prominent throughout the song in a rather repetitious way, it's soft enough that the song feels comforting rather than exciting. But the problem, and I'm noticing that it's particularly infectious among HYBE artists to have songs that round to two minutes long (I'm thinking specifically of TxT, Enhypen, and Seventeen because I remembe...

Battle of the B-Sides:: NU'EST: ONE KISS2

Image
 Even though I desperately want to do nothing but talk about my absolute ult and first group, the unfortunate reality I face every time I have to pick a song for either a GH or a BBS post, and it's one that everyone who is a fan of a disbanded group is aware of, is that until and unless they get back together after their enlistments, NU'EST songs are a finite resource. If I go hog wild on them, I will run out of them quickly. So, really, I should save them for special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries. And this isn't one, but I have also spent the past week or so just missing them. So I'm ignoring the suggestions for this posting cycle, I'm ignoring the Roulette Wheel, and I'm ignoring the irrationality of the emotion. I'm sure this is partially fueled by the awareness of Hoshi's impending enlistment with the release of CBZ , but it is what it is. So I'm also giving myself permission to just fangirl over this song. Please note that the name...

Song Review:: Minhyun (NU'EST): Lullaby

Image
Release date: 2024 March 13 Album tracklist: Lullaby Album runtime: 4 minutes  I was debating a lot about when I would be doing this song. I knew I was going to eventually, but the time never felt right to do it. However. His expected discharge date is Christmas 2025, and this is a good present for me, so I'm doing this for Christmas 2024, when he has one year left. This was his "Goodbye, I'll see you when I'm finished" present to the LOVEs and the Hwangdos. I trust that he's doing well, and that he's doing his job well because I can't see him doing anything without exceptional dedication. Just ask the abalones he was asked to clean back in 2019 during some cooking content they did. I have other reviews I need to be doing, but I need to mark the one year left for him and this is a good excuse considering that.  Okay, I've delayed this enough. This is another one of those songs that I desperately wish I could have just the instrumental for. Between ...

Song Review:: Baekho (NU'EST) (feat. Jessi): Nutty Nutty

Image
Release date: 2024 September 04 Album tracklist:  Nutty Nutty Album runtime: 2 minutes ...I know they're disbanded, but I refuse to not attach his group to him. Also, really? Two minutes? That's barely long enough to cook a hot pocket.  Nutty Nutty  is a really good dancing song. I like the latin elements to it, as well as the driving, pulsing beat. This song doesn't give you a chance to breathe, not that it's long enough for a pause. A slowdown wouldn't have enough time to recover, so I'm grateful that it doesn't try.  I think this sounds more like a Jessi song featuring Baekho, than a Baekho song featuring Jessi. And I know that both of them have incredible voices, but I also don't think that this song pretends to let their vocals shine, nor do I think that it's supposed to. This is not a song you sing to have your vocals praised.  Waterbomb is PG-13 and above for a reason. I'm more surprised by this combination of artists than I am by the chor...
