Song Review:: NiziU: LOVE LINE- LOVE LINE

Image
Release Date: 2025 March 31 Album tracklist: LOVE LINE , What if? Album runtime: 6 minutes  The cool thing about how I'm trying to get myself caught up is I'm under 0 obligation to do any of the reviews in order. Takes the pressure off me to do any given review, but also gives me flexibility in case a song gets a win in a music show before I get to actually doing it. Like in this case, where it's part of the March releases that I'm putting a pause on for the moment to wrangle the April ones. Congrats, NiziU! Super exciting! And until or unless this gets added to an album later, I'm just going to treat this like the single it currently is.  This song feels very J-Pop. Like, if you told me that this was the opening theme to an anime, I'd so fully believe you that knowing it isn't makes me feel a little weird, like the world isn't what I expect it to be. It's a very bright track with high amounts of cheerful energy, and quirky little synthy bursts and w...

Song Review:: 2AM: Moment

Image
Release Date: 2025 March 30 Album tracklist: Moment , Moment - Instrumental Album runtime: 8 minutes  The group hasn't been exceptionally active the last few years, although they did release quite a few singles last year. Still, a series of singles does not an album make. On the other hand, I can generally rely on them to be beasts, much like their twin group is. Speaking of 2PM, I want them to release a new album too. It's been too long since we've been graced with an album from either group. Let's have the powerhouses have a full comeback this year. Both sets. I'd be absolutely ecstatic and over the moon if that happened. The amount of soft acoustic guitar throughout the song gives me life. The beat is slow and soft. And you know what this song has that I love when it shows up in music of any kind? The violin. Violins for some reason instantly make any song about 80% more dramatic and cinematic, but this one has an electric guitar to bellow alongside the acoustic ...

March 2025 Wrap-Up: It's Alive!!!!!!

Image
 This was a distressing and emotional month for me, which is why it's taken me this long to get this one out. But! I think I'm finally enough caught up now that I feel comfortable with this being a comprehensive post for the month. Starting off with the debuts, I actually covered quite a few of them, which pleases me. Hoshi and Woozi debuted as a subunit of Seventeen. I also covered In A Minute , KiiiKiii , NewBeat , and RE:WIND . Those are all the links to the debuts I covered. Obviously, I'm ecstatic over the HxW even though I know very well what it means, and equally distraught over the song length problem. NewBeat I've been waiting ages to debut and if any Stays, NCTZENS, ATINYs, or VIPs are looking for a new rookie group to support, you might take a look at them. RE:WIND was a surprise that I wasn't going to cover and I'm completely enamored by their debut song. The following links are going to the YouTube videos for the groups I did not cover. I don't...

Song Review:: Akmu: DADA

Image
Release date: 2025 March 30 Album track list:  DADA , DADA (Inst.) Album runtime: 6 mi nutes  AKMU are pretty legendary in some circles, what with them being an epic brother-sister duo who debuted back in 2014. I don't know how consistently active they've been over the years, but I do think it's a little funny that it feels like they're part of the round-up YGE is doing to send all their artists out of the various pastures they're in because YGE is broke. I absolutely could be wrong, but YGE is also dragging back artists who were disbanded, so it's not outside the realm of possibilities, even if this is just a single, and a collaboration with Cookie Run at that. Ah, bless. We get an instrumental track so I can focus on it as is without having to listen under the vocals. And I'm not going to lie, it sounds like the soundtrack to a rom com that focuses on the comedy slightly more than the romance. That or it sounds like the soundtrack to a life sim game. There...

Song Review:: izna: SIGN

Image
Release date: 2025 March 31 Album track list:  SIGN Album runtime: 3 mi nutes  I'm coming up on the tail end of the March releases, thank goodness. I suspect that this is actually a pre-release single, but I'm not marking it as such until such a time as it's confirmed as this is being marketed as a digital single. I actually like izna. I think they're a solid group, and here is the review I did for their debut song . I'm just deeply annoyed by this run time, as you should expect from me. There's a little bit of haunted doll aesthetic to the instrumentals that smooths back with the first pre-chorus to something with a stronger beat and a stronger stand. I'm getting some mid-80s feel from a couple of points in the song where the synth is particularly noticeable. But generally speaking, even when everything about the song softens, there's still plenty of texture and depth to dig your teeth into without immediately feeling the need to brush your teeth. And s...

Song Review:: RE:WIND: FOREVER {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2025 March 28 Album track list: FOREVER Album runtime: 3 mi nutes  I did not cover their pre-debut single, so I'll add that to my draft list since they debuted with the pre-debut single and their debut single and that's it. That's not a big sample size, but the more coverage they can have, the better as a newly debuted group. They're all adults, ranging from twenty-one to twenty-five, with none of them having had their birthday before their debut date, though in my delay in writing this does mean that the eldest has hit his. Speaking of the eldest, whose name is Lei, he loves BTOB, tennis, and Pentatonix, all things I also love. So I have tentative hopes. Plus, they're a March debut, and you know how I love me a March debut. Almost all of my first love groups that didn't stem from another group have been March debuts (literally my first four were all March debuts, and I just keep picking up more on accident). So fingers crossed with this one. I do ...

Song Review:: Just B: JUST ODD: CHEST

Image
Release date: 2025 March 28 Album track list: KiD, BULLET, CHEST , DOOM x3 Album runtime: 9 mi nutes  I made a joke somewhere about Just B releasing a song a month and for March, they released four. The overachievers that they are. That does mean that I'm not anticipating anything for April though, solely based on the numbers and the fact that I'd rather them rest before they go on tour. But there also isn't a song that's comfortably close to three minutes, so you can guess how pleased I am about this. I wasn't expecting this kind of instrumental to hit me like this. It's 80s electro, and I'm in love. It's so saturated with texture and vibrant colors that I'm annoyed that it's taken me so long to get to this review. It's glorious. You know, if this song was longer, we could have gotten in an EDM dance break and  a bridge, and you know who wouldn't have been upset about this? Me. I love what we got here. Genuinely. I think it could have be...

Song Review:: Xdinary Heroes: Beautiful Mind- Beautiful Life

Image
Release date: 2025 March 24 Album track list: FIGHT ME, Beautiful Life , more than i like, Diamond, Supernatural, George the Lobster, BBB (Beautiful but Better) Album runtime: 23 mi nutes  Another release that I was looking forward to but hadn't gotten a chance to get to yet. I've got a noticeable soft spot for the proper bands, and I really hope it's been noticeable. I'm pleased to see what this new offering from them is. Also, can I just say how much I appreciate the names of these songs? Because some of those are both hysterical and lovely. I love proper rock music. Clocking in at almost four and a half minutes, this song absolutes gives you spots to breathe, which is important in a song this long, and also gives it different textures through the song, and also lets the guitarist and the drummer a moment to pause and rest. There are like three spots where the song reminds me of other songs, and while I can't fully place any of them, my brain is trying to override...

Song Review:: Lucy: 와장창- Wakey Wakey {Pre-Release}

Image
Release date: 2025 March 27 Album track list: Wakey Wakey Album runtime: 3 mi nutes  Lucy did an OST, so I'll definitely be doing that once I get breathing space back, but in the meantime, their maknae is militarying and will return next  March, and they're dropping a pre-release for their album being released this month. If you've spent any previous time with my reviews, you know how much I love this band. If this is the first time you've heard of them, spoiler alert, they have a violinist and I'm in love. I'm not pleased about the run time, though. This song goes heavier with the piano/keyboard than we normally get from this group, and there are either chimes or a triangle being included with this. Very little violin, which saddens me exceedingly, but I'm intrigued by the unusual instruments we're hearing. It's cute. I just kind of want to bask in the sound going on here for the moment.  Their main vocalist has such an incredible and distinct voice...

Song Review:: NTX: OVER TRACK- OVER N OVER

Image
Release date: 2025 March 10 Album track list: SCOOT, OVER N OVER , WASSUP, STAY, Mind Box, Rabona Kick, Like This, Sir, Memories, Take it easy, OVER N OVER - English Version Album runtime: 34 mi nutes  I would have done this one a lot earlier because I hadn't even been in the first accident yet, but I 100% thought this draft was for TNX and I had simply misspelled it. My apologies to both the fans and the group. For everyone else, this group has a 2021 debut year and are another March debut! So I should, in theory, like them since I apparently have a thing for March debuts. The maknae also turns 21 this year, so there's nothing stopping me. And this is a proper album, so, yes. They should get more attention. The instrumentals for this song feel very familiar, not necessarily for a specific song, but more like 2000s Disney Channel rock. I'm reminded a little of Bratz and Hilary Duff, which is kind of funny to be hearing from a boy group specifically what I'm being remind...

Song Review:: J-Hope (BTS): Mona Lisa

Image
Release date: 2025 March 21 Album track list: Mona Lisa Album runtime: 2 mi nutes  I still need someone to let me know how to properly capitalize and punctuate his name. I apologize for the lateness of this review. I am working through my draft list. And because I wasn't aware of the release until after the fact, it got put in the drafts list. But, let's see how this goes. Also, that run time barely makes this a song, and I'm once again deeply frustrated with HYBE.  This is a pretty mellow hip-hop track going on here. It's chill and rolling through the song with the steadiness of a perfectly smooth marble on a ramp at a slight incline that occasionally levels out to prevent the marble from picking up too much speed. But it's too short to really get any traction going and so it's just perpetually steady without flare or bombast. He's clearly got a good voice, but I'm not seeing that this song is showing it off all that well. I listened to this song about ...

Song Review:: FANTASY BOYS: UNDENIABLE- Undeniable

Image
Release date: 2025 March 20 Album track list: Undeniable , Flare, 별하늘 Album runtime: 10 mi nutes  I've got a soft spot for this group already even though I've never heard a song by them because I know they've got Pledis trainees, or former Pledis trainees, in the bunch. Pledis can be a garbage company, but looking at the trainees that have either debuted at Pledis or spent time there and debuted elsewhere, they tend to be impressive idols. And they also clearly take the SM approach of having trainees by the bucket-loads at any given time. They're a project group of the finalists from a survival show, but I don't know if this is a permanent group or a temporary one. However, the youngest two members just turned sixteen, so please do the math and note that they were fourteen at time of debut. So, if I like this song, it's getting put in the storage playlist until the whole group are adults, because I refuse. Shame, that. A CAPPELLA BEGINNING. It moves into a hip-h...

Song Review:: Dragon Pony: Not Out- Not Out

Image
Release date: 2025 March 19 Album track list: Not Out , NEVER , Waste, To. Nosy Boy, On Air Album runtime: 18 mi nutes  This band debuted right around the time I started this, so getting to do their first comeback is kind of a special moment for me, especially with how much I liked their debut song. And I was thinking about them a little bit before I discovered that they'd released this, so I'm happier than you can believe for the moment. Just as a quick reminder, their name comes from the fact that one of them was born in 2000 and three of them were born in 2002, the year of the dragon and the year of the horse, respectively. Which, I think is cute. Look at that runtime. I feel so spoiled by them. Starting off a cappella and then transitioning immediately into something much bigger is a statement. The song has a really good rhythm between loud wall of sound, and quieter, more introspective moments, punctuated by brief periods of silence. This was a good choice for a title trac...

Song Review:: Ten (NCT): STUNNER- STUNNER

Image
Release date: 2025 March 24 Album track list: STUNNER , Enough For Me, BAMBOLA, Sweet As Sin, Waves, Butterfly, STUNNER - English Version Album runtime: 22 mi nutes  So he definitely did get a win on The Show , so I bumped his up to a more immediate review. He is, hilariously, the only member of NCT my mother knows the name of (other than Mark, but Mark is in all the NCT subunits (this is a joke)) and can also recognize on sight, but can never remember what his name is. So she knows Ten is a member of NCT, and she also knows what Ten looks like, but does not have his name attached to his face. To be fair though, she had nicknames for her favorite group for ages and could not remember their actual names.  Am I crazy or are there sections of the instrumental that sound exactly the same NCT song that Mark's +82 Pressin'  sounds like? I don't know that many NCT songs. There's another song that this also sounds like, but I haven't the foggiest idea of what it's suppo...

Song Review:: KiiiKiii: UNCUT GEM: BTG {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2025 March 24 Album track list: DEBUT SONG, GROUNDWORK, I DO ME , THERE THEY GO, BTG , 한 개뿐인 (ONE OFF) Album runtime: 16 mi nutes  I grabbed another girl group out of the long list of drafts I've got on hand because I figured it was high time that I take a look at KiiiKiii's debut. Congrats to them on their successful debut! They're a week old now! To recap, we're in Underage Protocol for this as the maknae is barely fourteen. I'm not peeved by this at all as you can all clearly tell by my insistence on letting everyone know when a group has a severely underage maknae. Also as a funny note, I think it's hilarious that their debut song is not Debut Song. The combination of whatever instrument that is that opens the song and the skittering beat that plops down on top of that instrument is a delightful combination that immediately catches my attention. It's a little spooky, without being too eerie. There's a good energy to this song that contr...

Song Review:: Candy Shop: TIP TOE

Image
Release date: 2025 March 18 Album track list:  TIP TOE , TIP TOE (Inst.) Album runtime: 6 mi nutes  I'm vaguely aware of them from their debut last year, but I know very little about the group. I have a sneaking suspicion I won't be able to listen to them recreationally, but let's take a look and verify, shall we? Oh, they are technically a five member group, but one was recruited after debut and one went on a health hiatus. Okay. I hope the one on hiatus recovers from whatever is wrong and is able and willing to return to the group. It's rough when they go out so soon after debut and stresses me out from worry about their return and recovery. Not saying that because I experienced that with the third K-Pop group I got into or anything. Let's see. They seem to have just had their first anniversary, so congrats to them! Age-wise, the leader turns twenty this year and was eighteen at debut. That doesn't bode particularly well for my being able to listen to them acc...

Song Review:: TNX: For Real?: For Real?

Image
Release date: 2025 March 26 Album track list: For Real? , Perfect Danger, What If, At The Moment, By My Side Album runtime: 16 mi nutes The album didn't come out until after ASC and then the car accidents messed up my schedule and so here I am finally getting to it. The name seemed familiar but I couldn't remember the group, so I did my usual sniffing just to double check and add to my mental folders, and the results I got were really validating for my memory. They used to be called The New Six! They're Psy's kids! Also, the maknae turns twenty this year, so we are good to go on that end. And they were funny on ASC, what with their near constant "We didn't ask the company for permission. Oh well." The song has a strong, driving beat and the type of energy that you find in pop-rock. It's familiar enough that I'm trying to figure out precisely what I'm reminded of here. Blink-182 maybe? Barenaked Ladies? Green Day? Jimmy Eat World? It definitely ...

Song Review:: Jang Beom June (Busker Busker): History of Nerds- Silent rainfalls

Image
Release date: 2025 March 20 Album track list: Silent rainfalls , Ballad seems to be your taste, Stuttering, Convenience store girl, Twinkle twinkle, Boy, A person who can only think, In the phone, Conversation while drinking with Hangjune, Accept my heart, As you wish (Remastered ver.), Can't Sleep (Acoustic ver.), Silent rainfalls (Eng ver.), Ballad seems to be your taste (Eng ver.), Deli girl, Keep my heart, Shampoo, Nuna Album runtime: 61 mi nutes  Look, I've never heard of this artist before. But the album title? Obviously I'm going to be taking a look because that's hilarious. So for everyone else's awareness, Jang Beom June is a singer-songwriter, married to an actress and they have two kids. He debuted in 2011 as part of the indie rock trio Busker Busker and were also on Superstar K3, where they were the runner-ups. Though they haven't been active as a band in over a decade, I would like to mention that they did get a Daesang at the 2012 Melon Music Award...

Song Review:: Rocky (ASTRO): BA BA BYE

Image
Release date: 2025 March 18 Album track list: BA BA BYE , BA BA BYE Instrumental Album runtime: 6 mi nutes  So I'm over a week behind. This is fine. It's fine. But this is also my first Rocky review, though not the first song of his I've heard. I've got at least one in one of the bigger playlists I've made. I think I'm only missing Eunwoo now for a review. And I know Rocky's not technically with the group anymore because he left, but I haven't heard of it being a situation where he should be excised from the group because of horrible, terrible choices that were made, so I'll keep him there, because I'm inherently nostalgic and sentimental, until such a time as that changes. Also, a song that's over three minutes. Well done, Rocky and/or whoever wrote the song. I love when I get the instrumentals as tracks on their own. This is kind of a seducing nightclub kind of track with what I'm almost positive is an acoustic guitar (the electric acou...

Song Review:: NMIXX- Fe304: Forward- KNOW ABOUT ME

Image
Release date: 2025 March 17 Album track list:   High Horse , KNOW ABOUT ME , Slingshot (<★), Golden Recipe, Papillon, Ocean Album runtime: 17 mi nutes  They weren't up next, but they did have a music show win recently, so I'm going to bump them up in my draft queue. Congrats to NMIXX! I am deeply peeved at the average song length as that's less than three minutes, but that seems to be my standard emotion when finding new album releases these days. I'm very much feeling this to be an industry-wide problem, rather than an individual company problem (though there are certainly some companies I find to be a bigger problem because they combine the short songs with other things that frustrate me), and unfortunately for you all, no, I will not stop pointing it out. But with that being said, I did enjoy High Horse , so I'm tentatively hopeful with this one that I'll like it as well. I really liked High Horse . Please don't sleep on it, y'all. Okay. I'm ab...
