Song Review:: AB6IX: SEVEN : CRIMSON HORIZON- BOTTOMS UP

Image
Release date: 2026 March 16 Album track list: Given, BOTTOMS UP , Forever, So Sweet (0522), Pieces of Youth, Holiday, Sometimes, Your Tomorrow, Faded Trail, Side by Side, Endless Album runtime: 37 mi nutes  That is a lot of capital letters. I'm not just shouting at you. You know what's really funny? One of these members is in the Greatest Hits post I'm going to drop here soon. I did not plan that deliberately; it's simply one of those funny happenstances. Anyway, this group is wildly talented as well, and I've got a soft-spot a mile wide for several of them. And we have an average of almost three-and-a-half minutes per song for the album, which I am stoked about. And it looks like the members potentially have solo songs folded into the album! One of them is the member I was just referring to! He is not the eldest, though, who is going to need to enlist this year, so that's where this group is at. And their seventh anniversary is also coming up in a couple of mon...

Song Review:: AB6IX: A Minute, A Second

Image
Release date: 2026 January 27 Album track list: A Minute, A Second ; A Minute, A Second - Instrumental Album runtime: 6 mi nutes  I have covered two of their songs so far, one in 2024 (coinciding with re-watching PD 101 S2) and one last year (coinciding with watching B:MY BOYS and two of the former Wanna One members from AB6IX being judges). I'm not watching a survival show right now, which makes it a hilarious departure from the pattern I'd accidentally made. Their seventh anniversary is also this year, so I'm happy, although stressed, about this because they've got about four months before that. The album artwork is gorgeous too. It looks like an oil painting. Seriously, not that I'm complaining, but why are so many of the releases this month in rock or rock adjacent genres? What was going on last year that prompted so many? We're also seeing movement back towards the three minute song rather than the two minute song, which, again, isn't something that I...

Song Review:: AB6IX: UPSIDE DOWN- STUPID

Image
Release date: 2025 August 25 Album tracklist: Square Up, STUPID , Friday Trouble, A Million Dreams, Plan for You Album runtime: 15 minutes  So what's kind of funny is I've been watching the survival show B:MY BOYS (which has been about 1000% more pleasant than Boys Planet 2, by the way, not in a small part because there have been at most four people going home so far) and their rounds are centered around a specific idol group, members of which come on and are the judges for the performances, which I actually adore as a concept. One of the rounds, former Wanna One members came on (which was simultaneously also funny because of who the Planet Master is over on Boys Planet 2), including two of the members of this group, Lee Daehwi and Park Woojin. And look at how long the album and the title track are. This'll do. Wow, okay. I'm loving the amount of rock, or rock-adjacent, songs coming out as title tracks recently. I will likely get a little antsy in looking for a differen...

Song Review:: AB6IX: BORN LIKE THIS- NVKED

Image
  Release date: 2024 October 10 Album tracklist: In My Vein, NVKED , Forever Young, Hurt Me, Butterfly Effect Album runtime: 16 minutes So, hilariously, I just started re-watching Produce 101 S2 today. I'm seeing a lot of faces I recognize from other groups that debuted later, so it's been a much more enjoyable experience this time around. And then I see that AB6IX dropped their ninth mini album as well today! That's a good coincidence right there. This is some groovy funk going on. I was trying to decide if it was disco, because this is very clearly dance music, or jazz, because of the lovely saxophone. And then I remembered that funk exists. There's a saxophone in these instrumentals, which given that the perception of that particular instrument is one of the sexier ones, matches the lyrics well. The saxophone is a great addition to what otherwise would be a fairly standard addition to the recent trend of music to come out of the younger boy groups especially. Not tha...
