Song Review:: THE BOYZ: a;effect- Stylish

Image
Release date: 2025 July 28 Album tracklist: Stylish , Talk, You and I, Constellation, AURA Album runtime: 15 minutes  Taking advantage of the weekend and the slowdown in releases to get this one done so that I can finally add it to the week it got a music show win. I'm deeply frustrated by what's been going on at their company with them, and I cannot imagine how angry the fans are. I'd be stubborn about some things, like with fan chants. But, anyway. Here we are. And even though the album runtime is fifteen minutes long, the title track is the shortest of the bunch and gets averaged out by the three-and-a-half minute song. Not my favorite thing, but it could be worse. There are some interesting things going on with this instrumental. It's got some sirens in it, which I really appreciate, but they're kind of constant through the entire thing, which I don't like. It's a little bit too aurally grating, so I can't actually listen to the song on repeat like I...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 8/06 - 8/12

Consequences to being behind on reviews, the only win this week that I've done a review for is BLACKPINK's, but I have them started in my drafts. Also, just as an observation, only one of the wins between this week and last week is longer than three minutes. A couple are shorter than two and a half. But, we've got a bunch of new wins for songs, even though two of the music shows were on leave this week. So that's fun and exciting! And this is EVNNE's fourth win ever, so Whoo! I apologize for the lack of stages, but did TWICE ever perform this on MCountdown? For the After School Club re-run, we're going to go to episode 203 from 2016, with WJSN's debut song! I'm actually watching a kdrama with Bona in it right now, which is why I'm sharing one of their ASC appearances. Hosts were Eric Nam, Jamie, and Kevin Woo from U-KISS, singing voice of Mystery Saja. Show Champion: N/A MCountdown: TWICE "THIS IS FOR" Music Bank: The Boyz "Stylish...

Song Reviews:: The Boyz: Unexpected- VVV

Image
Release date: 2025 March 17 Album track list: Feel the Bass, VVV , Starry Night,  Ain't Salty, Rose, Rock and Roll, Nothing, Miss Demeanor, Cross Over Album runtime: 31 mi nutes  Sangyeon has been added to my enlistment wall as I picked up a photocard of his specifically for this purpose. Congrats to The Boyz for their successful move over to One Hundred! It's been a few days since they dropped this, but from what I can tell, things seem to be going well. There's some big competition right now for those first place wins on the shows, but I wish fans and group good luck. I just swore in my head in about three languages seeing the run time on this song. Be still my soul. Do my eyes deceive me or is there only one song under  three minutes long? One Hundred Label. This is an excellent sign. Note: I didn't get this finished when I was going to and also, I was in a car accident ( again , this time  on my way home after work. Neither of them have been my fault. I am simply...

Song Review:: The Boyz: Last Kiss

Image
Release date: 2024 December 02 Album tracklist: Last Kiss , Candle Light, Winter Sleep Album runtime: 10 minutes This is likely going to be their final release under their old company, and I don't know what kind of song I'm expecting from them. This looks like a holiday album, judging by the names of the tracks, but I wonder how nostalgic they're going to get with it. Good luck, The Boyz! I wish you well in your new home!  Not gonna lie, I was not expecting that opening from a song called Last Kiss because it sounds like we're going into a hip hop song. Not that hip-hop can't have holiday songs, but I'm a bit of a traditionalist and do wrinkle my nose at attempts to make the classics "hip." The strong trap instrumentals are an interesting pair with the fairly mellow lyrics, and I don't think I particularly like it, particularly the way the beat is so much faster than the vocals. In a different kind of song, yes. It would be fine. This sounds like t...

Music Show Wins: Week of 11/06 - 11/12

Well, Ros é is still going strong this week. I'm genuinely impressed even as I'd like to cry a little from the fact that she's not actively promoting on the music shows (which isn't a problem in and of itself) so there are no stages I can share with you. As happy as I am that she's continuing to do so well, and I am, I want a little bit more variation so you all can get more variation in the videos. MCountdown didn't have a winner this week, and THE BOYZ essentially took aespa's spots from last week. But Kep1er got their first win for TIPI-TAP! And I would just like to say that while Aron struggles often with doing the dance challenges on ASC (it's my favorite segment because I think it's endearing) and this one was no different, at one point Taeyoung, fresh off the Ace of Ace intense journey of constant dance, said something along the lines of "I feel like I'm suddenly a bad dancer." Which made me laugh, but also says exactly how har...

Song Review:: The Boyz: Trigger- Trigger

Image
Release date: 2024 October 28 Album tracklist: Bite Back, TRIGGER , bAd, Slip Away, Re-Wind, They See Me Dream Album runtime: 18 minutes  I've seen them live. That wasn't in my plans, but, well, they were doing a concert the night before KCon and I had nothing else to do, so I went. It's actually a really funny set of circumstances that led me to deciding to go, but that's neither here nor there. I'm just glad I got to see them before the enlistments start up for the group. I will say, though, that Eric and Kevin are hilarious. Eric in particular. He may have lost some of his filtering abilities being on his home turf...in front of his mom. I laughed a lot. There is a lot happening in the instrumentals. They're very dramatic and with much theatrical aplomb with some very surprising elements. Hidden underneath all the electronic dance trappings, there's a brass instrument that I'm trying to identify. My first thought was trumpet, but it's much too low...
