Battle of the B-Sides:: Monsta X: Hero

Image
 We just had a whole lot of b-sides for July, but a bunch of those were buried tracks. This one, this one is iconic, so iconic, in fact, that when I was thinking about what songs to do for August, that was when I found out that this and another one that I'm planning are both b-sides. I genuinely thought it was a title track. These two songs are also songs that you regularly see pop up in the K-Pop compilation videos that get posted on YouTube, so if you're like me and watch those regularly but also haven't actually heard this song yet, here's your chance to find out why it's in all of those videos delivered to you on a silver platter. I've done all the groundwork for you here. The other kind of funny thing is that both songs I was considering started off life as a b-side and then became a Japanese debut for the group. What's the other song I'm talking about? You'll find out. You can blame the order of these posts on my EXO-L friend (and now Baby Stay...

Battle of the B-Sides:: Ailee: Love Recipe

Image
 Two big powerhouse vocalists back to back. Nice. We're continuing with July's "I'm doing b-sides by artists that I haven't covered yet" theme, I suppose you could call it. I've had a few months of writing a lot of Greatest Hits posts for the Expanded Offerings, so I thought I'd forcibly balance that out a bit to compensate for that a little and for what will be happening in the short term that I know about. Which isn't a lot because I keep changing my mind about exactly what songs I'm going to do although the topic has been fairly stable once I decide it. Next month is "Events". For the record. With a tiny three post arc in the middle that's slightly unrelated. That mini arc is the only one that's one hundred percent locked though.  Ailee debuted in 2012 as a soloist, which makes her one of my beloved 2012 debuts, and congrats to her because she got married in 2024! I wish her a long and happy life with her husband. And you w...

Battle of the B-Sides:: Seventeen: Shining Diamond

Image
 I hope some of you figured out the group based on that last little hint that has now been fixed on Angel 's post, and I hope at least one of you was able to figure out which song I decided to do. This song sits in a little bit of an interesting spot because while it does technically match the May theme, it's actually fulfilling a much bigger role. If you've been around here for a while, you may know that I've got a massive soft spot for Seventeen that started out because they're NU'EST's brothers (and was resisted for several months even though I'd already attached to SCoups because the jerk decided to shred his knee in a potentially career-ending injury right when I got into K-Pop so that injury was the second thing I learned about Seventeen and resulted in my worry being activated before I ever actually knew anything). So my attachment was inevitable. It has since grown into respect independent of NU'EST, but that's why it's surprising tha...

Greatest Hits:: HOTSHOT: Watch Out

Image
 Hello, everyone! I decided to go back to my origins and use the old roulette wheel to decide on a Greatest Hits from a third gen boy group I have not covered yet. I've been circling around the group quite a lot, ever since the first time I saw their name written in Hangeul and was the first group I read and figured out before I knew them. I did of course check to see if there was a boy group called "HOTSHOT" to see if I'd read that correctly. So, yeah. I'm very curious about this group. They seem really familiar for some reason though, like I should know them more than by name and from After School Club. ...Ah. I just remembered where I knew them. Produce 101. They were one of the other debuted groups that had members join, and I think the only other group to have members debut in Wanna One. Imagine me looking into the camera like I'm in The Office with a "Welp" expression on my face. That realization as I was looking into them for this section dipp...

Battle of the B-Sides:: Gain (Brown Eyed Girls): Paradise Lost

Image
 I had to dig to figure out if this was the title track or if it was simply a promoted single. If I am wrong, do tell me and I'll be happy to make those adjustments and changes, but as far as I can tell, this one was not the title track and thus belongs here. I've got some EXID recommendations to do (another one got added to the batch I got from Reddit, so I'm back up to three of them), but I'm trying to spread those out a bit more than what it would be, because if I did those to get them out of my submissions in a row, it  would be six of those posts in the space of a year-and-a-half, which doesn't seem like a lot, but that would be almost ten percent of these. The other submission I currently have (other than the one I've already got locked in for a posting date) is for a boy group and we're going to be pretty heavy on those at the end of this month. So I thought I'd go for someone that is not a boy group and is not in a boy group. This one has been bo...

Greatest Hits:: Stellar: Vibrato

Image
 The submitter told me to let you all know that "their company is trash and can burn in a wte plant because then at least they'd be useful but the song itself is fire and i want people to appreciate it. and you can quote me on that if you want". WtE is apparently a waste-to-trash facility, AKA a trash-burning plant. I had to look that up. That's funny, and also I have to compliment the submitter for holding with the metaphor. I don't know if they meant to, but I'm going to believe that they did, in fact, do that on purpose. It's very clever. After digging into the situation a bit (which wasn't hard, by the way, and left me with the idea that a lot of Stellar's fans, on the whole, are really creative with their feelings towards the company), I feel about the same about their former company as I do about TS Entertainment, for two very different reasons, but the outcome is ultimately the same, as is the company defunctness. Thank goodness. So, let...

Greatest Hits:: EXID: Hot Pink

Image
 So I handed up Up & Down to the LEGGOs over on Reddit, and one of them gave me a list of (checking my playlist where I keep track of all my suggestions) four more that they really liked. I already did one on Every Night , and I feel bad about taking so long to get through the list. So, before I get to the next one from The Form (which will be by F.T Island, by the way), I'm just going to do one of those suggestions. Love the enthusiasm from that fan, by the way. Way to keep the group love alive. I am all about that. Plus, EXID is one of my 2012 groups that I'm fond of because of their debut year. 2012 was a good year for K-Pop. It hadn't gotten super saturated yet (the uptick in debuts had only happened a few years earlier) and a lot of them ended up being fairly successful, at least for a few years. Some of them, it took a little bit before they hit the successful stage, and this was one of those groups! Hot Pink  did get added to an album later, but it started life ...
