Song Review:: ITZY: Girls Will Be Girls- Girls Will Be Girls

Image
Release date: 2025 June 9 Album tracklist: Girls Will Be Girls , Kiss & Tell, Locked N Loaded, Promise, Walk Album runtime: 14  minutes  I'm starting to get really excited about ITZY having new releases, which is the effect GOLD has had on me. Might need to add them to my list of girl groups I actively listen to, which isn't a long list, but I am always on the lookout for more to add. There's only one song on the album that's longer than three minutes, which I don't like, and one that's under two-and-a-half, which I also really don't like. So the runtime? I want more🎶. (The use of emoji is because there's no other way to indicate that I'm referencing a song here. I'm still a real person.) Ooh, the song has a section designed for audience participation clapping. Nice. Love that. We've got an EDM dance break as well, so sign me up for that too. I love EDM dance breaks. I'm really trying to ignore the lyrics and vocals, but I'm pret...

Song Review:: Yeji (ITZY): AIR- Air {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2025 March 10 Album track list: Air ; Invasion; Can't Slow Me, No; 258 Album runtime: 12 mi nutes  So, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Yeji is the first member of ITZY to debut as a soloist, which is super exciting for her! Congratulations! GOLD  from last year was my absolute jam, and I'm curious to see what statement Yeji makes with her solo debut.  I had initially resigned myself for this to be a delicate addition to the milquetoast genre, but was pleasantly surprised to discover there's more strength to the instrumentals than I was expecting. Even in the parts where it's relatively quieter, there's a deep thrum courtesy of the bass. In general, I'm reminded a little of Stranger Things , so that's fun. Genuinely, I'd be unsurprised to discover this song in the show, even though I know quite well that it is far, far too young. But it's got a lot of the same traits as songs from the third and fourth seasons especially. Also, t...

October 2024 Wrap Up: Of Course the Music is Musicking

Image
 October is my Spookening month, my favorite month of the year. It also marks the anniversary of my first K-Pop performance that I saw! Thank you for coming, NINE.i! Also, once more, I want to thank you all for reading any of the reviews thus far. You are all lovely and amazing, and I hope you always have a cool side to your pillow.  I'm also already seeing the personal benefits of doing this, namely how distracted I am from the recent enlistments and the upcoming ones across groups. There is a lot to be doing, and a lot to be paying attention to. So, let's get to it! Starting off with my space to be indulgent and a fan, as I sit here sipping from my Seventeen tumbler and wearing a NU'EST shirt, there were some releases that I've been looking forward to for months, one that might qualify as a historic occasion, and some that definitely piqued my interest more than others. Google already thinks I'm obsessed with only G-Dragon. There is only G-Dragon. (I have exactly ...

Song Review::ITZY: Gold- Imaginary Friend

Image
Release date: 2024 October 15 Album tracklist:  GOLD , Imaginary Friend , Bad Girls R Us, Supernatural, Five, Vay (Feat. Changbin of Stray Kids), Born to Be (Final Ver.), Untouchable (Final Ver.), Mr. Vampire (Final Ver.), Dynamite (Final Ver.), Escalator (Final Ver.) Album runtime: 34 minutes  I was actually looking forward to this music video dropping, because as much as I love the title track, I was always surprised by how much I like this song every time it plays. Is there a genre of rock for haunted rock? Because if there is, this is it. If there isn't, well, there is now. It's eerie in a comforting, energetic sort of way. The tone of whatever is going on with the instrumentals is established at the very beginning, and it is carried through to the end of the song, even though more present instruments help to ground the song, but the drums in particular aren't always where I'd expect.  Their singing is absolutely gorgeous. The melody is beautiful. Their harmonies ar...

Song Review:: ITZY: GOLD- Gold

Release date: 2024 October 15 Album tracklist: GOLD , Imaginary Friend , Bad Girls R Us, Supernatural, Five, Vay (Feat. Changbin of Stray Kids), Born to Be (Final Ver.), Untouchable (Final Ver.), Mr. Vampire (Final Ver.), Dynamite (Final Ver.), Escalator (Final Ver.) Album runtime: 34 minutes  Okay! ITZY. I get them and TWICE mixed up a lot. TWICE is the older group, and ITZY is the younger group, yes? Still, right now, I'm glad this is a JYP group so I can focus on that  company for a minute instead of another one that I'm a little angry at right now. So! ITZY! Let's get to it! And look at that! Hey, there, Changbin! Glad to see you again! Also, can someone help me out with what "final version" is supposed to mean? They take up half the tracklist, but I'm not sure what they're supposed to be. Oh, I like this introduction. I like it very, very  much. We've got power chords! Their voices are glitching! And then the abrupt switch to what I can only descr...
