So I'm having to move up my planned review of this because they're going to be on ASC, so I need that review done for my pattern to hold up. I’m not actually sure that I've ever done a review for them, and I'm not sure I've ever heard them before. So this should be interesting. But that also means I get to do a quick check up on the group. Unfortunately, due to the number of members that were underage at debut, this is a group I can't listen to on my own time until the maknae is eighteen. Good news, that's next year. Bad news, five of the seven at debut were seventeen or younger. That seems a little excessive. I'm writing this one on my phone as well, so pardon any errors. I'll take a look at it when I get back home.
There's something really familiar about these instrumentals, like there's another song that has kind of this same arrangement of chords and instruments. Seventeen? Astro? EXO? Something like that. I'm also reminded a little of that Soobin meme, the "hey guys, hi ladies, mwa" one. Technically I suppose that actually belongs with the vocals, but it's fine. The instrumentals in general are very crisp, with a tendency towards staccato rather than something smoother.
Vocally, this is very much a middle of the road song. It doesn't feel like any big risks were taken in the song writing. The members do well with it, and they inject quite a lot of personality, but at the same time, I'd kind of love to see what they could do with something that takes more risks, not that I can listen to the songs yet. But it's solid in a way that would be harder to achieve with those risks I want.
It's always entertaining for me when the kpop music videos involve filming with a toilet. I don't know why. It's just funny to me. Also, there is a storyline going on here, so that's satisfying for me as a person. But this genuinely is just a fun music video. There's enough little asides and quirks to it that I found myself smiling periodically. It's a lot of chaos. Explosions. Sass. I'm warming up to their personalities a lot, and it's really a shame that I can't actually listen to them.
