Music Show Wins:: Week of 8/20 - 8/26

Ooh, this week had some interesting wins. Well, okay. First of all, this is the first time in a while that we've had a full batch of wins. The only way this could have been better is if After School Club had come off of hiatus. Alas. But that's fun regardless. But you know what's more fun? Three of the six were first wins for songs. And one of the six wins got a triple crown! That brings the song to ten wins, which is apparently 1/7 of the group's total wins, and makes that triple crowns from Inkigayo, Music Core, and MCountdown.  I picked a group that for the ASC re-run this week that is currently on a survival called A-IDOL, and I don't know how I feel about it because of the nature of this survival show. My girls Purple Kiss, Lightsum, and DreamNote are also on it, which is...concerning for a completely different reason. So give them all some love, yeah? (Other groups on the show are WOOAH and iCHILLIN, so give them some love too). Anyway, this is episode 571 f...

This is the first week in a hot minute where I've actually already had the songs reviewed in full! It helps that we had two repeats, but I'm also excited about the two first wins for songs on here! And we got a Triple Crown for JUMP even though it has not been promoted! Whoo! The Triple Crown also means that next week, we're guaranteed a new win on Inkigayo, which is helpful for the other groups.  With After School Club still on hiatus, here's the re-run for the week. It's actually pretty fitting because I'm starting to migrate into wanting to actually learn about the members in the group rather than simply loving every single song I hear from them. That's right, it's episode 458, featuring a 2021 Dreamcatcher! This was convenient because it made it easier for me to connect some of those personalities to their names. We'll see if it sticks. In the meantime, the group is wildly loud and chaotic, and I mean this in the best way. Same kind of idol as...

Consequences to being behind on reviews, the only win this week that I've done a review for is BLACKPINK's, but I have them started in my drafts. Also, just as an observation, only one of the wins between this week and last week is longer than three minutes. A couple are shorter than two and a half. But, we've got a bunch of new wins for songs, even though two of the music shows were on leave this week. So that's fun and exciting! And this is EVNNE's fourth win ever, so Whoo! I apologize for the lack of stages, but did TWICE ever perform this on MCountdown? For the After School Club re-run, we're going to go to episode 203 from 2016, with WJSN's debut song! I'm actually watching a kdrama with Bona in it right now, which is why I'm sharing one of their ASC appearances. Hosts were Eric Nam, Jamie, and Kevin Woo from U-KISS, singing voice of Mystery Saja.   So, this week was actually the week of the Triple Crown. This is what I get for not doing these on time anymore. Misinformation. My apologies. I'm leaving the other post as is, even though I did fix the little spreadsheet I've got going on down there (where you can find the links to those songs when I get them posted). This week was dominated by two groups, both of whom are getting to the point where they could be considered older groups. One turns ten next year and the other turns seven. When the Show Champion one gets uploaded (assuming there is one), I'll be back to update this. As for After School Club , which is still on hiatus, I'm delighted to hand off one of my absolute favorite groups (BTOB) with one of their most fun songs ( BEEP BEEP ). This was actually shortly before they turned two and is actually an album of theirs I have, which is impressive because their albums are kind of hard to find. This is episode 47 from all the way back in 2014 with Eric Nam a...

Big 3 Company domination this week! And! Even cooler! We got the first Triple Crown in a while! We don't have as many videos as I'd like, because one of the songs I don't think has been promoted on music shows, and one of them I had to go back to a week prior for the performance, but still. Only Inkigayo did not have a show this week. For After School Club, I think this is the most recent re-run I've shared. It's episode 629 from 2024 and the group ARTMS for their first full album! Aron was the only one MCing that week as Allen and Taeyoung were absent. The angel dance from the dance challenge was cool to watch. It's really pretty. (Also, Aron had to wear angel wings and I couldn't be happier about this, I remember absolutely cackling when I watched it live because of how adorable it was).   Hello, everyone and welcome to this week's one-stop shop for the music show wins! We are down two music shows, which is unfortunate because that means fewer wins, but we do have a first win for a song!! Whoo!! For the After School Club re-run due to their ongoing hiatus, I'm handing you ep 453, featuring the boy group WEi! First episode of 2021, first time WEi was on, and while its their debut song, they were about a month out from their second mini album. Hosts were Jamie, Heejun, and Jaeyun (AKA Jayn Lee). Show Champion: CLOSE YOUR EYES "Snowy Summer" MCountdown: BLACKPINK "JUMP" Music Bank: CLOSE YOUR EYES "Snowy Summer" Show!   It's not a whole lot of variation this week, which is a little unfortunate. I'd prefer to have more, you know? On the other hand, I am pretty amused that all the wins this week came from groups at the very start of the alphabet. It's cute, and a little funny. aespa is also the only one of the bunch that isn't a rookie anymore, which is always good to see. The rookie groups need the love, attention, and wins to survive. The other interesting thing is that both of those rookie groups are project groups from survival shows. (Love you, Woongki, I hope this group does better for you...) After School Club is still on hiatus, so your re-run for this is ep 199 in 2016, featuring a still rookie group GFRIEND! Our MCs are Eric Nam, Jamie, and Kevin from U-Kiss (most recently known as the singing voice for Mystery Saja!). GFRIEND are absolutely precious.   Welcome to the third quarter of 2025, everyone! I almost typed 2015, so if anyone wants to know how I'm doing, that's how I'm doing. Hilariously, this week also features a whole bunch of first wins for songs (and possibly two first wins for groups), as well as three of the four categories of K-Pop artists. We've got boy group covered. We've got girl group covered. But you know what I find the most delightful? A co-ed group is covered. They used to be a lot more common, so any new ones, I'm generally supportive of on principle, though restrictions may apply. With After School Club still on hiatus, and I'm still being patient because they went twelve years in a single season, here's your weekly rerun! Now, I know that the video says the group is called "Elris", but this was their last release under the name Elris. Following this one, they'd spend roughly the next two years or so on hiatus, before returning rebranded as Alice! This is why I ...

You know what's kind of cool? This week's music show wins cover three of the four categories I classify K-Pop under. The only one missing is a co-ed group. Boy group? Check. Girl group? Check? Soloist? Double check.  Nice. The ecosystem is flourishing. With After School Club still on hiatus, I'm still giving a rerun. This one comes from a boy group that debuted back in 2011. Episode 20, guys, gals, and nonbinary pals! And you know what's really cool? They're having their first comeback since 2018 this month! I'm really excited about this even though I previously had no previous knowledge of the group! Now, granted this is their first Japanese mini album and not a new Korean mini album, but you know what? I'm just happy to see them releasing new music. But, back in 2013, they were young and cute, and I think I really like this song. As always, the links to my reviews for these songs are found in the graph below. Show Champion: Kang Daniel "Episode...

I'm simply really behind with this. I'm not through doing this. Anyway, we're running down to the end of the Seventeen comeback season, which opens the wins back up to everyone else, as we're clearly seeing below. As much as I've loved seeing Seventeen get their wins for their tenth anniversary, I'm glad for the variation now. Although we get another surprise win for Woodz. It's a welcome development, but a little baffling. I really hope that someone askes him how he feels about this when he gets out. I do have to say it's been a good week for soloists, though. I did not continue that with the After School Club re-run episode, however.  As always, the links in the graph below go to my reviews of those songs.    I fully count Seventeen TV (AKA the green prison) as a survival show sort of, which makes every win this week from a group that was in a survival show. Exciting? Absolutely. Two first wins for songs this week as well, so that's super exciting as well. Lots to celebrate, you know. For the After School Club re-run as they're still on hiatus, it's 2014 MBLAQ being all manly, with Eric and Kevin as the hosts. I really enjoyed getting to know the group a little bit considering I've done both a BBS post as well as a GH post on them.   Almost a clean sweep for Seventeen. They're just missing out on The Show  now for this comeback. I actually like that N. Flying got that instead, because as proud as I am of the Carats for coming out for Seventeen like that, I also like the variation. So much DK in the thumbnails. Since After School Club is still on hiatus, it's also time for the weekly rerun. It turns out that if you go back far enough on After School Club, you run into a theme song. This week's rerun if episode 005 from all the way back in 2012 with the girl group, 9MUSES. I didn't know a whole lot about this group if I'm going to be honest, but I actually kind of like this song. And 9MUSES were such a tall group! They were apparently the girl version of SF9 (gorgeous and tall). There was also a guest appearance, sort of, by B1A4 with another song I was delighted to learn about and a music video that is exactly as I'd expect from this era.   Well, well, well. Another week, another batch of wins. This week is another nearly clean-sweep, this time for the young group, RIIZE. Also, fun win for Jin, which makes it his second win (the first on M Countdown in 2022). All in all, I'm pleased. If the performances show up, then I'll make sure to add them. The After School Club re-run I present to you is fromis_9 from 2018. I hope you enjoy that one. I'm a little impatient for them to have their next comeback under their new company, but I'm waiting.  Show Champion: RIIZE "Fly Up" MCountdown: Jin (BTS) "Don't Say You Love Me" Music Bank: RIIZE "Fly Up" Show!   This introduction is going to be a bit shorter because I need to ease myself back into this (and also I forgot to publish this on time...). This week was a pretty clean sweep, which was exciting for the group and the fans! Whoo! For the After School Club rerun, it's one from 2023! Mirae was very cute talking about how the entire group has bad eyesight, but they're generally a pretty fun group if this is any indication. I don't know a whole lot about the group, but from this? I could like them. Show Champion: tripleS "Are You Alive" MCountdown: BOYNEXTDOOR "I Feel Good" Music Bank: BOYNEXTDOOR "I Feel Good" Show!   Another week, another batch of music show wins! This week we got a full set of wins and only one repeat, so that's lots of stages I get to share with you all! Excitement! And four of these wins are first wins for the song, so that's even cooler! Whoo!  For the ASC re-run, I didn't mean to pick another debut. I picked one at random, went "Oh, Seungmin is a host. Oh! This was for NATURE's debut!" Fun times had by all. Three of the members had been in South Korea less than a year, which was cool to learn, and their 2x speed choreography was adorable. A little bit of chaos, a little bit of leggy coltish energy (yes, I know the difference between colt and filly but it's easier and less awkward to say coltish rather than fillyish, which spell check is telling me is not a word), but overall, precious. Also, them singing their debut song in a couple of different languages was cool. Show Champion: P1Harmony "DUH!" MCountdown: MEOVV "Hands Up" ...

One of those wins is not like the others. I saw the article the other day talking about its surprise climb up the charts since last October, but what's so impressive about this is the song is over a year old and Woodz is in the military (also, this was his second win ever, which makes me so genuinely happy for him). He gets out in July, which is now something else for me to look forward to while I wait for Minhyun to get out. We're down to about seven months for him, about ten for JR, and about thirteen for Jeonghan and Ren (I think). Little micro-goals to focus on instead of the inevitable creep of time resulting in more idols enlisting. The discharges is a much less stressful thing to focus on. I also apologize for the lack of reviews the last few days, so I'll move these necessary reviews up to the top of the list for me to do, and add Woodz in. Not that this is a hardship because I love Drowning , but whatever. (This is a hint that if someone else also loves this song...

This is what we call a clean sweep. It's also not the first one this year, but it is the first one from a group/artist that is less than five years old, so that's very impressive for a rookie group. Congrats to the fans for this one, and well done for the kids! They're almost all eighteen or older, so I really probably shouldn't call them the kids anymore, but I'll stop once they get their own dongsaeng group at Pledis. For the random ASC episode as they're still on hiatus, I realized that I'm essentially giving you reruns and not in order because I'm a frustrating person like that. This time we're only going back about two years (and the song is about old enough for me to do a Greatest Hits post on it so that's available if someone wants to submit that). The sexy dance by one of the members had the hosts (Aron, Allen, and Taeyoung) shooketh, and the fans, and me, and I was deeply impressed by their 2x speed dance. It was good. It was fun. I le...

I am super late with posting this, but in my defense, I GOT TO SEE 8TURN THIS WEEK AND THEY'RE AWESOME AND VERY PRETTY. And very funny. And very, very good dancers. And their vocals? Took my earplugs out a couple of times just to hear some of those notes better. Myungho has a set of pipes on him, let me tell you. Color me impressed. Anyway, we got some first song wins this week, which is delightful. There are only three groups that got wins this week, and all three of them debuted last year, funnily enough, so that's good news for the kids. I say kids. They range from roughly 23 to 14. Big spread of ages. I'm not entirely pleased with all of those ages, but regardless of that, I wish the groups' continued success as they continue to learn and grow and become better artists and hopefully well-rounded people. For the ASC performance as After School Club is still on hiatus, I just scrolled randomly and landed on Cross Gene, which was interesting because the episode was f...

Hello, hello! Congrats to the winners this week! I'm fully in agreeance with who won. Excellent songs. A first time win, and then a couple of repeat winners, which is always nice to see them rack up those wins. Very nice.  Speaking of Very Nice, I'm delighted to share with you all this After School Club episode I found that has The Eric Nam, Jamie, and Kevin from U-KISS as the MCs. And while normally, because I like timing to work out well, I'd wait to have this closer to the group's tenth anniversary, I don't know how long ASC will be on hiatus, and I'd hate to miss the chance to share with you Baby Seventeen! That's right, gals, pals, and nonbinary pals! ASC for you all this time around is 2015 Seventeen, a month after debut! While I was watching it so that I had things to say about it, I had to keep pausing it because the cuteness aggression was making it hard to breathe sometimes. That or my posture was terrible. Either way, I want to squish them. Withi...

Three of the Big 4 are represented this week in the music show wins, but they're not the only ones, which is also cool. I like diversity in an ecosystem because that indicates healthiness for the ecosystem. We've got a couple of first song wins, which is delightful for all of us, and mostly them because those wins are important. And I was waiting for one of those songs to get a win. Also, I couldn't be happier about Close Your Eyes for getting a second (very well deserved in my opinion, that album is amazing and incredible) just about two weeks after debut. Whoo! I did a random scroll to grab an After School Club for this week as they're still on hiatus (which is fine and I'm happy to wait for them; I'm doing a lot of waiting), and after I finished watching it, I found my next one because it was the next recommended for me to watch. It's a group who is regularly a top listen of mine every month and they were on ASC exactly one time. This week, however, fea...
