Song Review:: NMIXX- Fe304: Forward- High Horse {Pre-Release}

  Okay, pre-release. Album comes out on March 17th. I'm not going to be a mess that day at all given what comes two and three days earlier, but it's fine. I'll have this blog to distract me this year and I don't have Minhyun doing his whole thing this year. So! Thank you, NMIXX. I appreciate the timing if nothing else. Also, and this might just be me being weird, but the word papillon doesn't look like it's spelled right. I know it is. But it doesn't look like it. If you didn't know, a papillon is a butterfly in French. Also a type of dog. 

I thought this was going to be in the ballad sphere, but this is moody and surprisingly gothic, swinging between the more layered instrumentals and a quiet solo piano. It's almost like gothic dubstep. I don't even know if that's a thing or if I'm just completely making things up. Like, you hear this, right? It's both spooky and electro-pop. I'm genuinely fascinated by this song. And then the song goes soft rock ballad, which was both welcome and delightful to hear. But, then we don't go back to the gothic dubstep or even the tender piano, but we do go to what quite possibly is jazz. So, essentially, we get all the genres over the course of this three and a half minute song. Some might call this messy and unfocused. Me, I like the variation. It keeps me on my toes and keeps me from getting bored partway through the song. 

Y'all, their voices. Wow. They're giving me jazz bar vibes and I'm genuinely here for this, or at least they give me the jazz bar vibes through a lot of the song, but then they have moments where it turns into much more of a Billie Eilish-esque vibe. I'm not super familiar with her music, but the little I've heard, I would agree if it was placed in the same circle of a Venn diagram. I'm curious to see what this choreography is going to look like.

Side note: they have a stage practice choreography version. Cue that shocked face emoji. After I finish this, I'm definitely going to be watching that because I've heard they sing with their stage practice videos like BTOB does.

So this doesn't have a music video per se, but it does have this. I'm in love with the choreography just from this that's half the length of the song. So that's gorgeous. And also, I'm including the regular track because, again that's half the length of the song.

February 2025 Wrap-Up: L is for the Way You Look at Me

 This month has been me scrambling to catch up after my bout of flu at the very start of the month, which set me back about a week. Which is why I'm so late in posting this one. Hello, friends! I'm still not fully caught up, but I'm counting myself as close enough that I can get this done. Also, why were so many releases on February 24th?  So. Debuts. Didn't cover a lot of them. I did cover NouerA and Hearts2Hearts . The other debuts that I didn't cover but I'm still going to mention are BLINGONE China , NEEZ , AWIN , DearALICE , and 3WAY . Moonbyul had her Japanese debut. Song Review:: Madein: SATURN

Release date: 2025 February 07 Album tracklist:  SATURN , SATURN - Accapella, SATURN - Instrumental Album runtime: 7 minutes  It does make me feel a little icky doing a review for a group that is having problems because they have an icky CEO. But I'm also willing to do it so that others are able to decide if they want to listen to it themselves. I'd be able to listen to them without issue otherwise because they debuted last year and the maknae turns eighteen this year, so she does fall within my rules for myself, but given the icky feeling, I think I'm going to treat this as though she wasn't old enough though, to minimize the amount of views or streams I contribute. And I get to split this up because the instrumental is included. Acoustic guitar does a great job of contributing to the home-spun, lonely feeling at the beginning. Song Review:: ARrC: nu kidz: out the box- nu kidz

Release date: 2025 February 18 Album track list: nu kidz, loop.dll, accident ~ at the studio, alien in Seoul, connected Album runtime: 16 mi nutes  So I'm having to move up my planned review of this because they're going to be on ASC, so I need that review done for my pattern to hold up. I’m not actually sure that I've ever done a review for them, and I'm not sure I've ever heard them before. So this should be interesting. But that also means I get to do a quick check up on the group. Unfortunately, due to the number of members that were underage at debut, this is a group I can't listen to on my own time until the maknae is eighteen. Good news, that's next year. Bad news, five of the seven at debut were seventeen or younger. That seems a little excessive. I'm writing this one on my phone as well, so pardon any errors. Song Reviews:: RESCENE- Glow Up- Glow Up

Release date: 2025 February 05 Album tracklist: Crash, Glow Up, Going On, In my lotion, Cotton Candy Album runtime: 15 minutes  A title track that is two and a half minutes long. Less than, technically. Ah, well. First review back from the flu, a shorter one is likely a better option to get back into the groove of things. Plus, the group is going to be on After School Club , so I wanted this one specifically done and out of the way before then. And with a quick check, this is one of those groups where the maknae was too young at debut for me to listen to the group, and she won't turn 18 for a while. So, if I like it, it goes into the "Can't listen yet" playlist. This strength of this song relies on the deep percussion and the bass to hold the song and ground it. There are places that lack that, but rather than weakening the song, those places provide a decent enough change of texture and pace to prevent the song from being too monotonous. Music Show Wins:: Week of 02/12 - 02/18

  Sometimes a group win forces me to write a review because this is the pattern that I've established. So it was this week. I still don't know how I feel about it, but the song was really good and deservedly won, even though I don't know how to classify it. We also had our first Show Champion  win of the year, so that's almost a full set of music shows! And a Triple Crown! On After School Club, we had ALL(H)OURS on. They had a moment where I was concerned that one of them just sat down and for kicks and giggles counted how many times the word "gimme" is said in that song. You may be shocked at the number. No spoilers here. Also, I was seriously rooting for that maknae during the game. And one of them is almost exactly nine years younger than me. Song Review:: ALL(H)OURS: Smoke Point- GIMME GIMME

Release date: 2025 February 04 Album tracklist: Smoke Point, Graffiti , GIMME GIMME , Kings & Queens, Freaky Fresh Album runtime: 12 minutes You know what I'm going to say, don't you? The runtime? That doesn't even average out to two and a half minutes a song. Dropping the just-over-a-minute track does raise the average, but it can never achieve something I'm comfortable with because there isn't a single track where the length of it is over 3 minutes.  This is quite a grindy sounding rock instrumental that throws the song into frenetic energy for much of it. Rather than maintain this breathtaking speed through the entire song, there is a point where the listener does get a moment of a breather. The change in tempo is a welcome surprise just so that we can have some variation. It also has a strong techno grip to the sound. I'm reminded a little of the intro blitzball scene of Final Fantasy X , but I'm also reminded of SHINee between 2009 and 2012, so if I...

Release date: 2025 February 05 Album tracklist:  Stay Album runtime: 4 minutes  This is one of those groups that I've heard are really good, and that I've heard quite a bit about, but I haven't actively sat down and listened to them or really know anything about them, so it's all hearsay at this point. Because I currently know nothing about them, I do need to double check on ages so I know which of my review writing processes I'm going to be using for this song. Is it a pre-release single? I don't know. If it is, I am very much loving the implications of the entire album with that runtime, but if it's simply a single, then I'm even more pleased by this because that's a proper song length. And fun fact, the maknae was twenty when they debuted, so there's not even lingering guilt. Proper adults. Excellent. Also, they've been around for a while. They're only a little younger than ATEEZ.
