Well, here we are at their last song under Pledis. I hope wherever they end up next, they get to do what they want and have the opportunities they want. I wish them all the best. And I'm glad they got a last song. Taking a brief glance at the credits now that I know they have a producing duo in the group, that is a really long list of names in the writing credits. Did all the members have a hand in this? Also, and I wouldn't have noticed this if I hadn't done FLY HIGH as one of my Battle of the B-Sides posts, but that single was called "FROM." and this one is called "from". So that's a pretty cool connection.
I was just kind of basking in the sound of the song through the first listen, but my ears perked up at the end upon hearing what sounds like a log drum. I'm likely reading too much into it, but it feels like a promise from the members. It doesn't feel like an ending, and I think it might be an unresolved beat, which would explain why it doesn't feel like an ending. What could be simply soft and ephemeral is instead grounded a little by the skittering beat throughout the entire song, whether by drums or synth. It's a nice depth to the song, and simultaneously doesn't overwhelm the vocals.
This being their last song under Pledis, and until such a time as they sign with a new company their last song as a group, I was expecting something bigger. While there are some very interesting vocal layers happening at points, it's not an explosive farewell. Notes are cut short that sound like they should have been extended. The melody is very sweet and beautiful, but it doesn't have quite the sense of drive that I was hoping for. Instead, it's a soft-nostalgia filled piece that gently settles and wraps feathery wings around the listener.
No music video that I can see from them, which is disappointing but understandable.
