Song Review:: XODIAC: GLOWY DAY- TIME 2 SHINE
- Release date: 2025 February 18
- Album tracklist: TIME 2 SHINE, MY LOVE, LOVERS OR JUST FRIENDS
- Album runtime: 9 minutes
Yes, I remember this group. This is the group I thought would be more like xikers than TWS, and I was very wrong about that. Or at least I was with the last song they released that I covered. I don't know how indicative of their general sound OUR DAYS was, but I liked that one. So here we are supporting the adults at debut once more. Also, this is for the title track. I now also understand why I had two XODIAC drafts sitting there. So the pre-release has been re-added to the draft list. I'm also sensing a theme with the song titles.
I've mentioned this before in other reviews, but Final Fantasy X is my favorite video game and I love the soundtrack so much that I bought it. I've ironically finished the sequel more times than I have that one, because I'm a chronic restarter (though those numbers are once and twice, respectively). So, to that end, that intro? A piano that reminds me of Final Fantasy X-2? Yes, please. It doesn't last all that long, to my disappointment because of the quick burst of energy to shift the tone, but I recovered fairly quickly. Again, the rapping gets less instrumentals underneath them, which is fascinating. Is that actually a signature move of the group? The piano isn't stuck with only the intro, seeming to switch off with the electric guitar, which increases the energy, but not the anger, which is good with a song title like "TIME 2 SHINE".
I'm still putting XODIAC in the TWS/NCT Wish category of groups for their sound, but this time around, I'm also reminded of early Seventeen. Feels like it might be a little more heavily weighted on the vocals side rather than the rapping side, which isn't something I'm going to complain about, but I know others might not appreciate that as much. Which is fine. To each their own. And there's one of them, I'm not sure which one, but he's got a little bit more of a lower register than the others. Which is intriguing, and I'm a little curious about which member that is.
I started off thinking that this was a vibes and visuals music video, but there are some things about it that make me fairly certain that there is a storyline. The amount of montage scenes is one of those things. There just isn't something particularly concrete that I can focus on to connect everything else to. But I have some suspicions. Regardless, I like what's going on, even if it's not as strong in the storyline as I'd like.
