Song Review:: JINJIN (ASTRO): JIN LAB Project 7. [Here]

  • Release date: 2024 October 25
  • Album tracklist: Here
  • Album runtime: 3 minutes

He has been incredibly active this year with the digital singles. I finally looked into them because I had some questions. I didn't get the big one answered ("What is JIN LAB?"), but enough of the others did get answered that I have an idea as to the answer to my big question. I'm glad he's kept busy. And since I need to add more to the March releases, I may do a review of the first one in a little bit. Who knows? Not me.

One thing that I really appreciate about this song is the fast-paced, skittering beat doesn't overstay its welcome. It's something that could easily overpower the rest of the instrumentals and even the vocals if the balance wasn't handled carefully, and instead there are stretches where that specific beat steps back to let others take the focus, or leaves entirely. It takes a very deft hand and ear to be this aware, and the fact that JinJin has his hands all over the song is so impressive. I've been pretty vocal about how much I like the watery echo additions to instrumentals, the respirator and water drops sounds specifically, but I'm also happy to report that I love them here as much as I do in other songs I've heard recently.

Oh, he has a nice voice. So I've been watching Produce 101 S2 again recently, and I got to the first episode where JR's team goes up against the other team. The other team wrote a rap because they didn't think it was fair that the rappers had to sing. JinJin is showing off exactly why idol rappers also need to be able to sing, even if that isn't their primary job, and he's doing it to great effect. I've also noticed that a lot of the rappers have this delicious rasp to their voice when they sing, as well as staying lower in their vocal ranges. He is no exception to this, and I love it. Just gorgeous.

If you were alive during the early to mid 2000s, you may remember the music visualizers from computer programs. That is essentially what the released music video is.
