Song Review:: The New Six: Fuego
- Release date: 2024 March 20
- Album tracklist: Fuego
- Album runtime: 3 minutes
Before the rush of the next couple of days, I'm going to do another review to fluff out the March page a little more. So, in honor of Ace of Ace and how upset I am about them leaving the show, I'm going to do this one. Also, because I don't know what's going on with them with the recent enlistment/leaving news, but I hope they're doing okay.
The intro sounds like an old Universal Studios movie, and there's a real sense of drama with the instrumentals, which would make me hopeful for the rest of the song. The chorus is a little frustrating because it's too similar to what's going on with the vocals, instead of taking the opportunity to provide some contrast. I do really like the acceleration of the instrumentals during the bridge. I just wish I liked it better. I've had it on repeat for a few hours trying to figure out how I feel about it, and the conclusion I've come to is it is a perfectly fine song. Hours of listening and it still doesn't bother me, but I don't like it any better. Would I skip it if it started playing? Not unless I'm only looking to listen to specific songs. Would I actively seek it out to play it? Not really because there are other songs like Fuego that I enjoy more.
Vocally, it's a combination of a Seventeen hip hop unit song and Rollin' by Brave Girls. The vocalists have good control over the vocal runs they do. You know what? I think I figured out what my issue with the song actually is. I think it's the chorus. The chorus drives me up the wall. The entire rest of the song is pleasant. I want to vibe to it. There aren't big belts anywhere, except during the ad-libs, but there's enough variation in the rest of the song that I like the rest of it. But the unending repetition of the chorus cancels out how much I enjoy the rest of the song, leaving me with the apathy. I really like the rumble during the "one two three fuego" part, because it gives the song a lovely texture. And yet, the chorus.
And it's a real shame because Love or Die is my jam and I decided I really liked the group based on that song alone months ago. I heard Love or Die after this came out. I love it. That song changed my opinion of hte group.
Yeah, this music video is exactly as dramatic as I expected it to be. The special effects are so cool, like when the one member's hand is on fire and he grabs the shoulder of another member before moving into frame. That part was so cool. Running off with fire footsteps? That's something straight out of an RPG. This is a fantastic music video.
And, because I'm in charge of this review blog and I can, I'm also going to link the ASC Performance of it.
