Song Review:: The CrewOne: Hit the Floor {Debut}
- Release date: 2024 November 1
- Album tracklist: Hit The Floor
- Album runtime: 3 minutes
Considering Ace of Ace has been over for weeks, I had no intention to do any reviews on the final tracks. But by the time this gets published, The CrewOne will have been on ASC, which means that I have to follow my rules. For the uninitiated, The CrewOne was a team put together for Ace of Ace consisting of the fourth gen boy groups ATBO and JUST B. Apparently disbandment was in their future before the two groups got put together, which is completely ridiculous as JUST B debuted in 2021 and ATBO debuted in 2022. I'm sorry, there are a number of groups that went on to be very successful after three not-successful years and if their companies had disbanded them, the face of K-Pop would be radically different. And yes, one of those groups I'm talking about is in fact BTS, though I wouldn't be me if I didn't also mention NU'EST here. But, I digress. If The CrewOne are going to be an actual group for however long they're together, then I'm treating them like an actual group. Thus, this review because of the ASC performance. And I'm also marking this as a debut, even though officially they debuted back in July, I guess, because this is their first original song.
I don't know what that main bamboo sounding instrument is, but I don't think it's something I've heard often recently, so kudos for that. The percussion is primarily a skittering beat. I think there might be a trumpet hidden in the instrumentals alongside the science fiction warbling. The instrumentals soften during the pre-chorus, which I appreciate for a difference in texture where much of them aren't particularly melodic. I'm not deeply inspired by it, but it does its job satisfactorily.
Both of the original groups have some powerhouse voices, but the song lacks a strong melody to let them have the space to use them, instead relying on rapping and shouting to get the point across, which is fine. Some people really enjoy that kind of music. I'm not one of them normally, although I do have a playlist for music like this. But if you're going to have this kind of music, and you're going to have the voices you have in the group, why waste those voices on something that could be used to make the group and the song stand out, instead of shackling the song into an average boy group song?
The stage has a boxing theme, but it's not a proper music video.
But, I would be completely remiss not to say that I did actually really enjoy their performance of Attitude+Get Away and the arrangement of it, and also their cover of Sherlock. Their cover of Sherlock is so cool, and I'm giving you the version with the reactions because Taemin is very funny. Both songs are included in some of my regular listening playlists
