Song Review:: Omega X: To.- Cool My Head {Pre-Release} {Japanese}

  • Release date: 2024 November 13
  • Album tracklist: Think I Wanna Do, Power of Love, TOXIC, Cool My Head, Bounce It
  • Album runtime: 15 minutes

 These members have had a rough go of it, haven't they? I'm sorry they went through what they did, and I hope that their new company treats them exponentially better. I also hope their path going forward is much easier than their path has been. I've had this sitting in my drafts since October, but never ended up doing it. But since there were so many Japanese releases today, including the album this belongs to, I figure, why not do it now?

I'm a big fan of the instrumentals. They remind me of Avril Lavigne and that general genre circa 2004, while also simultaneously having band energy. I don't think they're a band, although I could wrong and I'd be happy to be wrong. But it's got that energy. I checked to see who the composers were out of curiosity and my usual source for that kind of information gave me only the vocals, AKA the names of the members. So that's less than helpful. Regardless, I specifically like the way the instrumentals "knock" during verse two. This is also the kind of song I like to listen to on my way home from work: high energy to dance to in the car to shake off the stress and irritations of the day before I get home. During the last chorus, I'm also a big fan of the way the instrumentals kind of get stripped out. It gives the song a different texture right before the end and gives the ear something new and interesting to get into.

I don't know why this group in particular, despite this being the first song I've heard from the group (I think, like I've said, I've got some very large playlists and I don't always pay attention to who an artist is if I don't already know the song), gives me the sense that they might actually be really good live. I have no proof for this because post-production wizards can do all sorts of magic and it's a lot easier to sing in a studio than while dancing, but I'd be interested to see if that's actually the case of not. Anyway, they do a really good job with the bright sound. I'm not sure exactly what the words mean, because while I can catch some Korean now, Japanese is far beyond my abilities, but the English bits imply that this is a happy, comfort song. The world can do with more of them, and it's a trend I particularly like right now.

Simple does not mean bad. Nor does it mean easy. Simple means unfrilled, uncomplicated, and often unassuming. That's this music video. Each of the members had two different personas, one a sports related one and the other the dancing idol. Locations were a black background or a school gym/basketball court. And that was it. Simple. The choreography was really cool, and I also went sniffing down into the comments a little, because I don't know the group and I like seeing how the actual fans react, where I found something surprising and mildly concerning. This is apparently an OT11 music video, with the two missing members featured in the photos near the beginning. I don't know the specifics of what that means other than the obvious and general meaning of what that means. Still, even that small amount of information was enough for me to be very happy for the fans that they got this present, and a little worried for the group as to why they have missing members.
