I figured that since I have a moment and I did a b-side from the album (congrats again on the win for HAPPY!), I should probably do the actual title track for the album. I actually love the whole album. It ended up on repeat swapped off with JR's he put out in January, and that ended up in my top listens of the year. Fourever missed out on joining it by not a lot. Also, this was their first album post-military if I remember correctly, which is why the album title is what it is.
The drumset gets a lot of attention during the song, but most of the time behind it, you can hear the keyboard doing rather delicate chords. That creates a brighter sound than the drumming would normally suggest. They also did a good job of building variation into their instrumentals, so that while there is a bit of repetition, it isn't overwhelmingly so. The electric guitar also has a surprisingly airy quality to it in parts, which, again, helps to confirm the brightness and joy of the song.
I know what the song is more or less about, having looked up the translation even if I don't understand it all the way but the word that stands out every time I listen to this song is found a little later in the song: 행복했다고. The 고 part is connective tissue between the two actions and not important for this (but obviously important to the overall meaning, but the whole phrase isn't what I'm looking at), but I'm pretty sure that 행복했다 translates to "to be happy" in the past tense. It's obviously a common word which is why it is one of the ones I've learned without it being one of my vocabulary words, and I know I'm taking this one word completely out of context, but a song about reunion and joy and togetherness also having that specific word is so heartwarming. The exact line translates to "So that we can say to each other that I was happy because it was you", and, again, this is their post-military comeback. It's just a joyful song, and the vocalists do a great job of rising and belting with the emotions. That's not even including the vocalizations that are so prominent throughout the song, especially after the line "Welcome to the show". This song isn't necessarily directed outwards towards the fans, although it could be interpreted that way, but it feels much more like it's been turned internally toward the rest of the group, and this is them reaffirming their bond with each other.
The music video turned the song into a love song, and it's an adorable one that still connects up with the love of the stage, given how the two of them know each other. Also a very cute proposal that makes me go "awww". But it also strongly reaffirms that this is a song for the group, as DAY6 aren't even performing for anyone for most of the song. They're closed off behind a curtain, performing for each other and smiling.
