Song Review:: Dynamicduo&Gummy: Take Care

  •  Release date: 2025 January 15
  • Album tracklist: Take Care
  • Album runtime: 4 minutes

 So I know that Dynamicduo is a first gen duo, and I recognize the name Gummy from the Alchemy of Souls OST. It's an interesting pairing that I'm actually excited to hear, because I have high expectations for the first gen artists even though I don't typically listen to hip-hop (this has changed in recent days and I blame Seventeen and JR for this), and her voice should be a good contrast with theirs.

It would be really easy to assume that this is a nice, generic (again, I mean this as a compliment because I mean it as "adhering to the genre") hip-hop beat, which I kind of did at the first couple of listens, but there are some softer elements that shift it towards a ballad, but without leaving the genre. With the lighter plinking during the chorus that carries through during her verse, it's a good way to bring an element of longing and poignancy.

One of the Duo reminds me of Bobby from IKON, specifically during Killing Me. I had to remind myself he's currently in the military and was three when Dynamicduo debuted international age. They have a similar style and tone, which I appreciate as my first song I've heard by the Duo to help place it with another song I already like. The other one has more of a grinding bite to his rapping and he reminds me a little of RM. I'd actually be curious to know if the Duo are among Bobby and RM's artistic influences as it wouldn't surprise me to find that out. Gummy's vocals provide an excellent contrast to the smooth rapping from the Duo, and where she could have spent the entire song in airiness, instead, she occasionally shifts into something very rich and punching and her vocal runs are a thing of beauty. The three of them are a good pairing vocally for this song. It pains me a little to use the word pairing to refer to three people, but it is what it is.

See this is what I mean when I say that sometimes simple is better. The music video is a single set. There are no costume changes or flashy choreography. It's just three people in a darkened jazz bar or speakeasy singing about how much they miss the other person, knowing the break-up is for the best without that knowledge truly diminishing the pain. Very solid music video.
