Song Review:: ASTRO: Twilight

  • Release date: 2025 February 23

  • Album tracklist: Twilight

  • Album runtime: 3 minutes

 I'm fine with them being on hiatus. They have enlistments coming up as well as continuing to heal emotionally, but I'm taking it as a good sign that they are still releasing anniversary songs. As a side note, I was looking through the March birthdays for my birthday wall of photocards and learned that Fantagio formed this group of members whose birthdays are all in the first three months and debuted the group in the middle of those months. So by the time April hits, unless the Aroha have a birthday as well, Astro is done with the birthdays for the year. That's insane.

Starting the song out the way it does, with the sound of a cassette tape and the ticking clock, it masterfully pulls this sense of nostalgia and the past, which is fitting for an anniversary song. The instrumentals to this song are in that nebulous area where if it never has choreography, that would be fitting, but if it does have choreography, that would make sense too. And I love that there's a section at the very end where the instrumentals fade out for the vocalizations, with the return of the ticking clock, as if to say "No matter what, time keeps going."

And if they're currently in twilight, eventually the sun will dawn again ("from darkness to my light"), but in the meantime, you may need to rely on starlight to light and lead your way. The symbolism here is so hopeful. And, realistically speaking, looking at the name Astro, and this, the sun is a star. So that ties in as well. And their voices are so beautiful. It's a hug and a gentle wipe with the thumb to get rid of lingering tears.

I made a mistake in location when I watched this. Really, this is more of a lyric video, but I'm grateful that that's what it is because anything more would have put me into full tears. I teared up as it is and this isn't the place for it. Still. It's beautiful. And I love seeing them together.
