Battle of the B-Sides

 This is a slight misnomer as I'm not actually going to be comparing songs here. But I like the alliteration. Instead, I'm choosing the title to mean something more along the lines of "B-sides that outshine their title tracks".

Because it's not just the title tracks that deserve love, and I often find my favorite songs from an album hidden in the b-sides. I'm sure others do too, which is absolutely why I'm taking requests to let all songs have a moment to shine. If you do make a request, please feel free to ramble about how much you love the song and why. That will help me if I'm not overly enthused with a song be able to get into the mindset of a fan and look at the song that way instead. I like a lot of music. I don't like all of it. But I can mimic enthusiasm well.

Also for the purposes of definitions, a b-side is any track that is not the designated title track. So, for instance, with Seventeen's mini album Spill the Feels, the title track is Love, Money, Fame. Even though Eyes on You also got a music video, Eyes on You is still a b-side and would go here.

                Song Review:: Sevenus: Can I Love You

                Release date: 2025 May 27 Album tracklist: Can I Love You, Can I Love You - inst. Album runtime: 7 minutes  I love this pair, and not just because they literally made me cry when I watched Peak Time because they performed Hello by NU'EST for their first round. Full-blown tears. I had to pause it while I recovered. I'm such a sap. Anywho, I'm pleased to be hearing from them again, because they need and deserve all the love and attention. They really do. I'd also really like to hear them live to gauge if they're as good as I think they are, but that's on a third list of goals based on the likeliness of that. I'm absolutely being spoiled right now. Guitar is the leading lady of the instrumentals, although the piano spends nearly as much time in the spotlight but it's not as loud about it if that's the correct word.                 Greatest Hits:: Taeyeon (Girls' Generation): INVU

                 Last of the girl group submissions for the moment, then I get to move on to some of the boy groups, but it's not just boy groups. There's a co-ed submission in there, which is such a yay from me. I'm excited for that. But! I'm also very excited for this, because she is a second gen heavy weight, reigning champion of an artist. Award-winning. Best-selling. Chart topping. And that's just her as a soloist, that's not even counting the years before that as the leader of Girls' Generation, which is one of the most well-known groups to come out of K-Pop. I admire her a lot, as you can tell, and I also think she's really cool. And funny. I don't know if she's generally known for her humor, but I think she's hilarious. She's also fairly out-spoken which is something else that I admire about her, but the group turns eighteen this year.                 Who is this Random Person Reviewing K-Pop and Why Does Her Voice Matter in the Cacophonous Discord that is the Internet?

                     Much like a recipe blog, this K-Pop review blog depends on the path leading me to where I am at today to dictate my tastes and how I perceive the world.                 Song Review:: IU: A flower bookmark, Pt. 3- Never Ending Story

                Halloween Spookening: 2024 Edition

                 I love Halloween. It's been my favorite holiday for literally my entire life. I have loved Halloween longer than Sangyeon of The Boyz has been alive, barely because my first Halloween was a couple of days before he was born, but according to my mother, even at the age of not-quite one years old, I have loved it. She dressed me up as a San Francisco 49ers cheerleader. I have pictures.  One of the most important things, then, is finding music that matches the Month of Spookening and horror. I love spooky movies. I love spooky books. I love spooky video games (even though I am a wuss of the nth degree and prefer to watch other people play them). And I love spooky music.                 Song Review:: Plave: Caligo Pt. 1- Dash

                Release date: 2025 February 03 Album tracklist: Chroma Drift, Dash , RIZZ, Island, 12:32 (A to T) Album runtime: 17 minutes  I wasn't originally going to do a review for this group because I don't know where to put them in my mental classifications (I had to work really hard as a kid to learn that animation = not real because I believed literally everything was real until I was about seven, which also coincided with my realization that I couldn't actually visit Jurassic Park, so I struggle with the idea of a virtual group in general), but because this song got a win on a music show, I kind of have to for the pattern I've established.                 March 2025 Wrap-Up: It's Alive!!!!!!

                 This was a distressing and emotional month for me, which is why it's taken me this long to get this one out. But! I think I'm finally enough caught up now that I feel comfortable with this being a comprehensive post for the month. Starting off with the debuts, I actually covered quite a few of them, which pleases me. Hoshi and Woozi debuted as a subunit of Seventeen. I also covered In A Minute , KiiiKiii , NewBeat , and RE:WIND . Those are all the links to the debuts I covered. Obviously, I'm ecstatic over the HxW even though I know very well what it means, and equally distraught over the song length problem. NewBeat I've been waiting ages to debut and if any Stays, NCTZENS, ATINYs, or VIPs are looking for a new rookie group to support, you might take a look at them.                 Battle of the B-Sides:: Fin.K.L: To My Boyfriend

                 Let's go back in time a little bit to May of 1998, before a lot of newer idols were born. And by newer, I mean, this song was released about two weeks before SinB of GFriend/VIVIZ was born. Fin.K.L is one of those groups which had the Korean name decided first, with the English name to follow, which is why the English meaning is a little confusing (Fin Killing Liberty). Still, they'd end up being one of the greats of the first generation of K-Pop and an act to help break ground for future girl groups and soloists to move further into various markets.  Welcome, Fin.K.L. Their name in Hangeul is the only reason I have any idea of how to pronounce their group name (핑클). This was also the group that saw the start of Lee Hyori, now an accomplished soloist in her own right, as well as Ock Joo-hyun, a celebrated musical theatre actress; Lee Jin of the drama and variety acting persuasion; and Sung Yuri of the drama and film acting persuasion.                 Music Show Wins:: Week of 01/29 - 02/04

                What did I say in the review (which you can refer back to in the link in the graph directly below this) for Minnie? I said that I thought HER  would get two wins and we're already halfway there. Nice. I'm still waiting for Show Champion and The Show to resume, because when one of the others, like, say, Show! Music Core , doesn't have a winner, that decreases the number of potential first place wins for groups, and I know how important those are. On After School Club, we had KickFlip with their ASC debut, and despite the technical difficulties, it was absolutely precious watching them see the dance covers and the fan art that got submitted. How sweet for the rookies, especially since some of them were trainees longer than some groups are together full stop.
