Battle of the B-Sides:: ATEEZ: Dune

There are some songs, beloved by fans, where it feels like the song just gets forgotten in the basement after release. I have quite a few songs like this, where the likelihood of the group or soloist performing the song in a concert is pretty low and I know that, but it doesn't change my love or my hope. Dune is also one of them, and I'm not alone in this, because it was submitted via The Form by someone who also loves this song. I'm sorry it's taken so long, but the two car accidents in a week (neither of which were my fault, I feel like I have to clarify that I am not irresponsible, just horrifically unlucky) have made it so that I'm doing things as I feel like and also when I have time that's not spent on mental and emotional recovery.

But! That also means I get to sit with this song as I slowly work through it and take my time. Because Dune deserves a lot of attention and one day, we may get to hear them perform it live.

One day.

So many songs from this album still get so much attention, and what does Dune get? Mothballs and dust in the back of the closet behind the Christmas wrapping paper that gets used once a year if they can be bothered to actually wrap the presents.

ATEEZ flirts with metal music sometimes in a way that makes that part of my brain exceedingly happy, but does require earplugs for their concerts. I don't know about you all, but when ATEEZ decides it's finally time to drag this song out of the basement closet and shake off those mothballs, the ATINYs are going to be a little bit more feral than they normally are. As far as I can tell, this has never been performed live, so until such a time that they finally perform this song, this will just be my response even though I know that it's an oft discussed song among the fandom with their desire to hear it.

And what I predict will be the turning point of ATINY feralness will be Yeosang. The harmonization going on where he and Jongho are together is legitimately insane, and builds on the earlier insanity of his verses. His voice isn't in the basement here, it's down in the subbasement and Dune Yeosang's voice deserves a fandom of its own. And having it sandwiched between San's angelic high notes and Jongho's powerhouse belts was brilliant on the part of Hongjoong and the others involved with line distribution. I don't think it's all Yeosang there though. I think it might also be Yunho, but again, I'd need to see it performed live to know for sure, which, again, I think most of the fandom would like as well. Either way, goodness me. Fling me off the surface of the planet. Enough cannot be said about Yeosang's part in this song because it is miraculous and if people think ATINYs are part of a cult now, just wait until this gets performed live. This one might trump Guerilla

I know. Blasphemy. It could happen though.

Speaking of San, he's got such a pretty, clear tone to his voice on the "heaven's door" part. He may be part of the demon line, but I'm only partially making a pun between describing his voice as "angelic" and his lyrics.

I hope someone snorted at that or at least smiled wryly. Especially hopefully the person who suggested it. Thank you!

There are a lot of other songs that highlight the other members, but I like to think of this one as Yeosang's time to shine. Dune is his song. And I'll be updating this as soon as it is taken from the basement and into the lights of a stage.
