Song Review:: EPEX: Youth: Chapter 2 : YOUTH DEFICIENCY- Universe

  •  Release date: 2024 November 05
  • Album tracklist: Universe, My Girl, 1997, It is what it is, Attosecond, Wonderful, Closer, Loner
  • Album runtime: 23 minutes

This will be the sole review I do today simply because I took a three hour nap and I woke up solely to do this and then I'm going to bed, but it didn't feel right to have two days in a row with nothing. So.

EPEX and/or their company seem to be adopting a different, ambitious strategy. Two studio albums in a year rather than dropping mini albums and singles. But that also means they've probably been incredibly busy this year. Which is tentatively good. I do worry about overwork, but I like that for the moment, even if there are only two songs which are longer than three minutes.

There's another song that this one reminds me of, at least as far as the instrumentals go. I couldn't tell you what it was but if anyone has any ideas, let me know. I actually really like what's going on with this song. The repeated melody gets to change instruments over the course of the song, which is cool. I can't decide if it's my exhaustion or if it's just the song, but it's surprisingly soothing, even when the drums go a little bit fiercer. It's chill. I'm glad I'm reviewing this one right now.

I think I mentioned on the pre-release single that I really like their voices and their rapping has a good tone to it. They don't do a lot of harmonizing, but you can at least hear some vibrato pop up during the adlibs. It's not very strong, but it's present and that's really all I can ask for. You know, I think if these guys can get exposure, I think they'll have a a strong career. There's something about their vocal quality that, as long as they continue to get strong songs, they could be serious contenders.

This is a well-done music video. It's cute. It's sweet. The choreography bits we get to see are good. The number of costume changes they have in the music video, though, is rather entertaining for me. It's not that long, and yet they have like five or six. You know, I'm actually a little impressed with their acting as well. It's just enjoyable.
