I honestly wasn't expecting another music video for this album. I mean, it's a full album, so they have the room for it and also not have half the album get the music video treatment, but this is also the third one. Not that I'm complaining, because I liked this song before and am excited for it to get the music video treatment.

If that guitar at the beginning was an acoustic, I'd fully believe that this was a country song from about 2010. That was when the songs started shifting back to more of a rock sound after the pop infused 90s and middle of the 00s, but the electric bit in the middle thumbs its nose at the assessment. Which is both funny and adorable. There's something I really like about sad songs being set against rock instrumentals, like "I'm SAD and having EMOTIONS and AWKSJFHHSJSIDCH". That was called keyboard smash back in the day; I don't know if it's still called that, and recreating it on a digital touchpad isn't nearly as satisfying. I try to limit the amount I do it here for these reviews as I don't think it's respectable, even though that's often my first impulse to write for an outpouring of emotions. But as this is the vibe, I'm giving myself a pass for it this time. Keyboard smash is the emotion of the song during the rock sections.

They did a really good job with the vocals of this song, soft when they need to be, almost proper rock raspy and cracky when it's time to be. The ad-libs are gorgeous, and the subsequent falsetto that naturally migrates back down into the lower register is a really good little punch before the upper cut right there at the end of the song.

The music video has such a strong storyline that it sparked interest from my writer brain, and why am I also thinking of Scooby-Doo and Alien Invaders? They all did an incredible job of acting in this, especially the one doing the part of the boyfriend and the girl, and keyboard smash is actually the emotion of the music video as well. It could be read as someone from the past returning, but also, there's no reason why it can't be aliens or ghosts. I get more of the alien vibe, but there we have it.
