Song Review:: NCT DREAM: DREAMSCAPE- Flying Kiss {Pre-Release}

Yes, I know the album came out today, but also, I was kind of an idiot and have spent the last couple of days trying to find this track so I could review it, but never thought to look on YouTube. I think the sleep deprivation that I'm still trying to catch up on has made me not be able to think critically. But! This is my favorite of the NCT subunits (not that I actually know who all is in the subunit other than Mark), and I'm very excited to see what they're doing this time around.

These instrumentals stay so far out of the way of the vocals that if there weren't segments where I can definitely hear them, I'd think this song was mostly acapella. Part of that is how much they do with the voices, and the other part is the instrumentals are soft and subtle enough that they are here to simply support the voices. The production on this song is actually fascinating for that reason. I know there's music, but it layers with the voices so well that you can be forgiven for thinking that sections don't have music, particularly the pre-chorus and the bridge. The chorus has a lovely burst of energy to it after the subtle gentleness of the other sections that prevents the song from being just quiet and sleepy. And I just have to shout out to the kiss sound effect at the end. It's very cute.

First thing's first. Which is the most obvious saying, and I just realized that. Sorry. Anyway. I cannot quite express how much I love the fact that the pre-chorus isn't the same lyrics repeated. But the whole song is lovely. We have harmonies. We have vocal stacking. We have slow, lazy verses and rapid-fire choruses. It's a genuinely great combination of sounds that this song is presenting us with. And I particularly enjoy the muah. It's also cute.

We get some doses of the choreography for this song in the music video, and it's adorable and dreamy. As is the music video itself. I'm reminded of the story Princess and the Pea, which makes the music video not just dreamy, but also a fairytale. The way that the flowers and the lyrics mix together and match so perfectly makes my film analysis heart happy.

Song Review:: Seventeen: SPILL THE FEELS- LOVE, FAME, MONEY (Feat. DJ Khaled)

DJ Khalid) , 1 to 13, Candy, Rain, Water Album runtime: 18 minutes  Did I watch the concert so I've already seen this performed? Yes. Have I watched the music video trailer? No, which is a surprise. Normally I'm all over them like fur on a cat, but with my conflicted feelings over the title track collaboration, my reticence is unsurprising. The concert helped. Woozi was very clear that he  is the songwriter for the group, and I trust him. Also, I had to round up to hit that 18 minutes for the run time, which means the average length of song is less than 3 minutes. Which does not please me, and I'm a little disappointed in Woozi and Bumzu for that. At least the title track is over three minutes.  I love Halloween. It's been my favorite holiday for literally my entire life. I have loved Halloween longer than Sangyeon of The Boyz has been alive, barely because my first Halloween was a couple of days before he was born, but according to my mother, even at the age of not-quite one years old, I have loved it. She dressed me up as a San Francisco 49ers cheerleader. I have pictures.  One of the most important things, then, is finding music that matches the Month of Spookening and horror. Album runtime: 34 minutes  I was actually looking forward to this music video dropping, because as much as I love the title track, I was always surprised by how much I like this song every time it plays. Is there a genre of rock for haunted rock? Because if there is, this is it. If there isn't, well, there is now. It's eerie in a comforting, energetic sort of way. The tone of whatever is going on with the instrumentals is established at the very beginning, and it is carried through to the end of the song, even though more present instruments help to ground the song, but the drums in particular aren't always where I'd expect.  Their singing is absolutely gorgeous. As much as I like other aspects, those tragedies remind me of why I decided not to stick it out as a sociology major in college.  Such is the case with Vanner, an idol group that had to work normal jobs to be able to afford to be an idol group with a CEO who also had to work a normal job to be able to afford doing anything with said idol group. I put off doing this review because the last time I did one, I got the Jeonghan news. I'm aware that I was subconsciously trying to avoid the risk of more bad news because I absolutely am superstitious, but I attribute at least part of that to the fact that I've been an athlete since I was five and almost every athlete I've ever known has been weirdly superstitious. Well, and so they could properly promote their first  title track, but I think I've accepted that part of the unfortunate circumstance. Hopefully they get a little bit of a break at the start of the year. I don't remember if I said this on LFM's review, but I had to round out to get to the 18 minutes. Some of these songs are worryingly short. I'd really like Woozi and Bumzu to not be following that  specific trend.
