March 2025 Wrap-Up: It's Alive!!!!!!

 This was a distressing and emotional month for me, which is why it's taken me this long to get this one out. But! I think I'm finally enough caught up now that I feel comfortable with this being a comprehensive post for the month.

Starting off with the debuts, I actually covered quite a few of them, which pleases me. Hoshi and Woozi debuted as a subunit of Seventeen. I also covered In A Minute, KiiiKiii, NewBeat, and RE:WIND. Those are all the links to the debuts I covered. Obviously, I'm ecstatic over the HxW even though I know very well what it means, and equally distraught over the song length problem. NewBeat I've been waiting ages to debut and if any Stays, NCTZENS, ATINYs, or VIPs are looking for a new rookie group to support, you might take a look at them. RE:WIND was a surprise that I wasn't going to cover and I'm completely enamored by their debut song.

The following links are going to the YouTube videos for the groups I did not cover. I don't know if I ever specified that. Anyway, those would be for REKIREM and M.prism. Because I got through so many, I may come back to those two groups and do reviews for their debuts, because while I didn't see anything about REKIREM at the glance I had, I have a good feeling about M.prism and I don't want to let them go if I can help it. Also, they're all adults. The maknae is older than a lot of the leaders that are debuting right now, and that is absolutely something I'm going to support.

So, March seems to be when everyone ramps back up their releases. Not that February didn't have a lot, but it feels like January and February were readjustments and March was where the companies revved their engines and leaped off the starting line. As such, here's what I was personally looking forward to.

  • BTOB- It's BTOB. I need my healers every day, and I miss the full group, but I'll take the four until we can get the full group back. Sungjae also wants to rejoin the group. The maknae is getting grumpy.
  • Treasure- Do I actually know a lot about Treasure? No. But they do have my attention.
  • HxW (Seventeen)- This was the official warning for their upcoming enlistments, but it isn't stopping me from being excited to see what these two powerhouses are going to throw at us.
  • NMIXX- I really liked High Horse, so I was intrigued to find out what they'd be doing for their title track.
  • Baekho (NU'EST)- I have feelings about this.
  • NewBeat- A.C.E.'s baby brothers are finally debuting! Shout it from the rooftops!
  • Hui (Pentagon)- I haven't even gotten around to reviewing the song yet, but it's Hui. Do you honestly think that I'm not going to excited for him? Really?

I was in survival and catch up mode through the second half of the month because of the two car accidents I was in within a week of each other, so I really wasn't paying attention to what was coming out until after the fact. But I was aware of these and I was also very excited to see what they'd be dropping.

And now for the good stuff. The songs that I genuinely am here for that were surprises or that I loved as much as I thought I would, or more than I thought I would. 

Top Releases of the Month:

  • BTOB "LOVE TODAY"- This song has become a catharsis song for me. It's such a comforting hug that I can't help it
  • Jennie (BLACKPINK) "ZEN"- Did it technically come out last month? Yes. But it's fine. Also, I liked this song technically a little better, but I absolutely love the music video for Love Hangover. 
  • Treasure "YELLOW"- This song is so much fun. The music video is fun. It's all good.
  • J-Hope (BTS) "Mona Lisa"- I struggled to decide which one I liked better, and I think this one wins solely because of his sparkly pants in the music video.
  • Seulgi (Red Velvet) "Baby, Not Baby"- Her voice is stunning, and the music video hits all the things that make my brain happy. Also, she herself is just gorgeous. (I'm also really excited to see what the duo comeback will be when it comes out).
  • NTX "OVER N OVER"- This one was a surprise for me. It's a delightfully fun and weird music video and the song itself hits a lot of the things I like.
  • Rocky (ASTRO) "BA BA BYE"- That music video. That's what I'm looking for in a music video, that level of storyline. That's what I want, and he gave it to me. Also, the song is just lovely. He's very, very good.
  • NewBeat "JeLLo"- I heard this song again this morning and I was humming or singing along with it. It's so scarily catchy.

I managed three Greatest Hits posts in March. One came from the submission form (thank you!), and the other two were for my own sanity's sake.

  • MBLAQ "Stay": I spent quite a bit of time fangirling over how gorgeous the music video and the styling was for the members. But also, if I could find that Tumblr comment, I'd love to show them the screenshot I snagged to support their claim that MBLAQ is a diva group.
  • MAMAMOO "Starry Night": I wanted a comfort song in the lead-up to March 14th and 15th, given what those anniversaries were and how bittersweet this time of the month is. And I didn't want to do BTOB for some reason. So I went to the girl group version of them and present to you an absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous song. This song is a prime example of a vibes and visuals music video filmed in an absolutely gorgeous location.
  • NU'EST W "Help Me": I picked a NU'EST W song because we're all waiting for the members to return. And this was posted very, very close to their thirteenth anniversary. Sentimental. And I just generally love this song, and it's an easy one to fangirl over because they look so good.

I posted no BBS posts. I feel bad about that. But I started out April with one, so that's covered for next month.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Seventeen "Aju Nice": I'm as surprised as you are that I listened to this song this much. But also, it's a really, really good song.
  • BTOB "Pray (I'll be your man": And this is just my favorite BTOB song. It hits all the good things for my brain, the music video is a little nonsensical but there is a storyline, and it's just generally one of my all-time favorite songs.
  • Stray Kids "Youtiful": Well. I have a little bit of a love-hate relationship with this song because this was what was playing when I got into my first accident. And then the next time I heard it was when I got in my second. So I'm now no longer allowing myself to listen to it on Thursdays. Superstitious? Yes. But I love the song too much to completely excise it from my playlists.
  • Dreamcatcher "Jazz Bar": This song is amazing and incredible and I need everyone to hear it. Thank you. Also, the groups as a whole is swiftly becoming one of my favorite girl groups because I haven't heard a song from them I don't like.
  • Apink "I'm so sick": I didn't even realize this got a music video until just now when I was filling out this segment. So if someone wanted to suggest this as a GH or a BBS, I wouldn't be mad about it.
  • GFRIEND "Vacation": I have this in my after work playlist. It's really nice to help me shed the Work Fangirl and put back on the Normal Fangirl.

 I love when I get suggestions for groups that I've heard of but haven't actively listened to. I know that f(x) has several songs that are on the list of K-Pop influential songs that pretty much everyone should be familiar with, if they don't know  them. I don't think this is one of them, because this is a b-side, but I could also be wrong. Which is why I like being able to dig into the albums and the songs a little bit. So, this comes from their second studio album Pink Tape, released in 2013, which won a bonsaeng in 2014 at the GDAs, and hit number 1 on multiple music charts worldwide. One of the songs on the album was originally supposed to be Ariana Grande's song, and f(x) got it instead. So that's pretty cool. Battle of the B-Sides:: ATEEZ: Dune

 There are some songs, beloved by fans, where it feels like the song just gets forgotten in the basement after release. I have quite a few songs like this, where the likelihood of the group or soloist performing the song in a concert is pretty low and I know that, but it doesn't change my love or my hope. Dune  is also one of them, and I'm not alone in this, because it was submitted via The Form by someone who also loves this song. I'm sorry it's taken so long, but the two car accidents in a week (neither of which were my fault, I feel like I have to clarify that I am not irresponsible, just horrifically unlucky) have made it so that I'm doing things as I feel like and also when I have time that's not spent on mental and emotional recovery.  But! That also means I get to sit with this song as I slowly work through it and take my time. Because Dune  deserves a lot of attention and one day, we may get to hear them perform it live. One day. Music Show Wins:: Week of 03/12 - 03/18

  Well, that was a clean sweep. VIPs and FAM, congrats! This is roughly as I expected to happen, so thank you for not disappointing me, but I'm only including the music video because there were no performances except for MCountdown two weeks ago. The Show has disappointed me for not airing anything, I'm assuming there were some extenuating circumstances. On After School Club, we had OT5 again with 100 . They're hilarious. Also, as I was watching the portion where they play the game, I found the perfect gif to describe one of the members. This was a funny episode. Also, Aron mentioned that he'd celebrated his thirteenth anniversary over the weekend and when asked a question about his members, I was unsurprised by his response and I still laughed. via GIPHY And as always, the links in the graph go to the reviews. Song Review:: KiiiKiii: UNCUT GEM: BTG {Debut}

Release date: 2025 March 24 Album track list: DEBUT SONG, GROUNDWORK, I DO ME , THERE THEY GO, BTG , 한 개뿐인 (ONE OFF) Album runtime: 16 mi nutes  I grabbed another girl group out of the long list of drafts I've got on hand because I figured it was high time that I take a look at KiiiKiii's debut. Congrats to them on their successful debut! They're a week old now! To recap, we're in Underage Protocol for this as the maknae is barely fourteen. I'm not peeved by this at all as you can all clearly tell by my insistence on letting everyone know when a group has a severely underage maknae. Also as a funny note, I think it's hilarious that their debut song is not Debut Song. The combination of whatever instrument that is that opens the song and the skittering beat that plops down on top of that instrument is a delightful combination that immediately catches my attention.  I was actually really excited to get this suggestion via The Form, because this song has apparently been sitting in my Junk Drawer for ages, which means that I get to clean out the playlist a little. That feels a little illegal, but who cares? Thank you, dear suggester, for giving me an excellent excuse to move a song out of that unwieldy playlist. They also directed me towards a fan cam from Music Bank  for this song and mentioned that it was the reason they got into the group at all, so I'm excited to see what this fan-inducing fan cam was. You can get some incredible shots on fan cams, and I love them because they're usually the raw audio that's been unaltered by the program or agency to make the groups sound better.  Even though I desperately want to do nothing but talk about my absolute ult and first group, the unfortunate reality I face every time I have to pick a song for either a GH or a BBS post, and it's one that everyone who is a fan of a disbanded group is aware of, is that until and unless they get back together after their enlistments, NU'EST songs are a finite resource. If I go hog wild on them, I will run out of them quickly. So, really, I should save them for special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries. And this isn't one, but I have also spent the past week or so just missing them. So I'm ignoring the suggestions for this posting cycle, I'm ignoring the Roulette Wheel, and I'm ignoring the irrationality of the emotion. GREATEST HITS:: NU'EST W (NU'EST): HELP ME

 Sentimentality here. The fifteenth was their anniversary, and Baekho left Pledis on the fourteenth, and I had my car accident on the thirteenth. It has been a rough few days emotionally and while I had a plan to do another group, the car accident confirmed for me that I should just do this for their anniversary, even though typing for long periods of time (such as doing this) hurts my wrist. And I picked a NU'EST W song, because the W stands for waiting, and that's what we're doing: waiting for them to come back. And I'm not masochistic enough to do Where You At , which got them their first win at all since debut, or Deja Vu , which is so beloved that it also got performed as five later. NU'EST W is the subunit formed after their appearance on Produce 101 S2 until 2019 with the return of Minhyun to the group. Song Review:: NTX: OVER TRACK- OVER N OVER

Release date: 2025 March 10 Album track list: SCOOT, OVER N OVER , WASSUP, STAY, Mind Box, Rabona Kick, Like This, Sir, Memories, Take it easy, OVER N OVER - English Version Album runtime: 34 mi nutes  I would have done this one a lot earlier because I hadn't even been in the first accident yet, but I 100% thought this draft was for TNX and I had simply misspelled it. My apologies to both the fans and the group. For everyone else, this group has a 2021 debut year and are another March debut! So I should, in theory, like them since I apparently have a thing for March debuts. The maknae also turns 21 this year, so there's nothing stopping me. And this is a proper album, so, yes. They should get more attention. The instrumentals for this song feel very familiar, not necessarily for a specific song, but more like 2000s Disney Channel rock. Music Show Wins:: Week of 03/19 - 03/25

  Well, all sorts of groups got wins this week, along with a Triple Crown! Congrats to all the groups for their first win for the songs! There isn't a single song that won on more than one show this week, which I like for the sake of diversity, and that means lots of different stages to share with you all. Also, three of the wins were with YG affiliated soloists/groups. After School Club had TNX (the group formerly known as The New Six) on, which was cool for them to talk about their new song before it comes out. Also, the amount of times they said something like "We didn't ask the company for permission, but it's fine" was hysterical, and one of the five of them is an absolute character. He's a delight. Also, the MCs on ASC announced this was the final episode of season 1 of ASC, which has lasted for twelve years, so they'll be going on hiatus for a little bit before the next season.
