I thought I'd be able to get these done so I could go into August caught up. Alas. As always, links in the spreadsheet go to my reviews. Show Champion: AHOF "Run To You" MCountdown: ATEEZ "BAD" Music Bank: Yeonjun "Ice Cream" Show! Music Core: Yeonjun "Ice Cream" Inkigayo: I.O.I "Suddenly" ASC Performance: N/A The Show: N/A The Extra Stage: UDTT "Viper"

Song Review:: Yeonjun (TOMORROW X TOGETHER): NO LABELS: Part 02- Ice Cream

Image
Release date: 2026 July 10 Album tracklist: Vanilla, Ice Cream , Baby Wassup? No More Disco, Fxxking Star, Long Way Long Ride Album runtime: 16 minutes  I don't think I ever did his solo album back in November, but I'm still willing and happy to do it if someone would like to suggest I do it. A simple "Can you review Talk to You by Yeonjun please?" comment on literally any post would do it. You don't need to submit it with The Form , although you can. Also, congrats on the wins! This is apparently just my day to do boy group soloists with the more sensual choreography. I haven't seen his choreography yet, of course, but with the low bass and the grinding instrumental, I can guess what it's going to be. There are a couple of spots where we get a little more variation to the instrumental than I expected, when we've got a spot right in the middle where most of the instrumental gets stripped out and then the grungy guitar  gets more prominent again. That s...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 04/29 - 05/05

Y'all, I just went down a rabbit hole over INKODE, who we should be getting the second boy group debut announcement from soon. Anyway.  We have three first wins for songs this week! Whoo!!! Congrats to those groups! And I believe one of these may be a first win ever, so that's even cooler! For the extra performances, I went with a pretty recent After School Club with Ep. 664 from 2025 and KickFlip. For the The Show re-run, I'm giving you TOMORROW X TOGETHER back when they were still pretty new in 2021. And the two extra stages for this week went to ifeye and UNCHILD. As always, the links in the spreadsheet go to my reviews of the songs. The link down with ASC goes to the full episode because they get weird when I try to embed them. Happy watching, everyone! Show Champion: &TEAM "We on Fire" MCountdown: Cortis "REDRED" Music Bank: NCT Wish "Ode to Love" Show! Music Core:  NCT Wish "Ode to Love" Inkigayo:  NCT Wish "Ode to ...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 04/22 - 04/28

The BigHit domination continues, with the one to follow BTS being their very own little brothers. It feels a bit like they were passing on the torch, which makes me smile. There was also a Grand Slam (still have not looked that up and no one is correcting me so we're assuming that I'm correct) this week, so congrats! Surprise! We got three extra stages this time: two from Show Champion and one from Show! Music Core . Obviously because TXT won, I had to add on an ALL'N performance (please refer to last week's wins if you're unfamiliar with their adorable meet-cute in the elevator). And interestingly, that performance has a surprisingly high number of views for a freshly debuted soloist not in a decently sized company or from a group, more so than some of the other stages I shared. The other two extras I shared, because I can share what I want, were Donghae and Be Boys. (Just to make it obvious what I'm doing in case you're new here and missed the irritati...

Song Review:: TOMORROW X TOGETHER: 7TH YEAR: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns- Stick With You

Image
Release date: 2026 April 13 Album tracklist: Bed of Thorns, Stick With You , Take Me to Nirvana (feat.Vinida Weng), So What, 21st Century Romance, Dream of Mine Album runtime: 16 minutes  Am I seeing this correctly? Has TOMORROW X TOGETHER released a song that's over three minutes? I mean, there are also three that are 2:3X and one that's under two-and-a-half minutes. And the title track is not one of the longer two. So. But I am all for them getting to have longer songs again. I'd love to see HYBE lift whatever nonsensical ban they have on title tracks longer than three minutes. Even TXT's older brothers didn't manage to escape it last month. The first part of the song has very little variation to it, then we get a bit techno. And then it's back to business. I'm very much enjoying the fact that the song ends a cappella, thought I'm not sure if that's one of their voices with heavy post-production effects or autotune on it or if it's a synthesize...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 02/18 - 02/24

Well, with Seollal being this week, the music shows were a bit scarce. Still, we had Ol' Reliable (AKA Music Bank) to give us  one win. And because it wasn't actually broadcast, I don't think, I'm going to give you an older stage that I think you'll find very cool. Which also means that the extra stage is older. For the After School Club re-run, I went with TOMORROW X TOGETHER's very first appearance on ASC right after they debuted, ep. 361 from 2019! They may be global superstars now, but they had to start off being adorable and shy and just plain cutie patooties. For the The Show re-run, I went with Yena formerly of IZ*ONE back in 2022 because that song is just delightful. And then for the extra stage, I went with another The Show stage, this one from WOOAH also from 2022.  As always, the links down below in the spreadsheet go to my reviews... Well, review, in this case. It's fine. The link down with ASC goes to the full episode.  Show Champion: N/A MCou...

July 2025 Wrap-Up: Free Hugs For Everyone

Image
I was so busy this month. Y'all. I didn't do a ton of the reviews, which is coming back to bite me in the butt now that I'm trying to get my year end post worked on. It's fine. Past Fangirl hates Future Fangirl, and it's completely fine.  July debuts! I only did a single review for a debut group this month, and it was for AHOF , who has been doing quite well for a rookie group. I may get 1verse reviewed because I still feel guilty about not reviewing them. Debuts I didn't cover: CrazAngel (girl group), Tomatomat (girl group), 1verse (boy group), 4X4 (girl group) and SEVENTOEIGHT  (boy group).   Big Ocean JJ (subunit of Big Ocean) also debuted. And Kang Yuchan , the lovely maknae of A.C.E, debuted as a soloist! Songs I was looking forward to: BLACKPINK: Look, this was their first release as a group since I started listening to K-Pop. Even if I don't listen to the group a lot (though I do have a few songs I really like, which is unfortunately a high perc...

MAMA Awards 2025: Day 2

Okie dokie, everyone! My thoughts on things will be down at the bottom, instead of giving a long and verbose introduction, because we all know that what you're here for is actually the performances and the winners. Song Review:: TOMORROW X TOGETHER: The Star Chapter: TOGETHER - Beautiful Stranger

Image
Release date: 2025 July 21 Album tracklist: Upside Down Kiss, Beautiful Strangers , Ghost Girl, Sunday river, Dance With You, Take My Half, Bird of Night, Song of the Stars Album runtime: 22 minutes  Okay, I have two left of these to review to get caught up on the music show wins this quarter, and since I have time right now, I'm going to get to work on this one. I've been deeply disappointed by their album runtimes of late, and I'm largely blaming that on HYBE for several reasons, but also some other things. But! This time we have two songs that are over three minutes long and one of those is nearly three-and-a-half. So. We're moving in the correct direction. Unfortunately, the title track is neither of those two songs. Instead, this song comes in at a paltry two minutes and eighteen seconds. Not even two-and-a-half minutes. Why. Okay. Let's see if this can avoid being milquetoast. I'm really, really hoping for this. We're moving away from that sound in gen...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 07/30 - 08/05

So, this week was actually the week of the Triple Crown. This is what I get for not doing these on time anymore. Misinformation. My apologies. I'm leaving the other post as is, even though I did fix the little spreadsheet I've got going on down there (where you can find the links to those songs when I get them posted). This week was dominated by two groups, both of whom are getting to the point where they could be considered older groups. One turns ten next year and the other turns seven. When the Show Champion one gets uploaded (assuming there is one), I'll be back to update this. As for After School Club , which is still on hiatus, I'm delighted to hand off one of my absolute favorite groups (BTOB) with one of their most fun songs ( BEEP BEEP ). This was actually shortly before they turned two and is actually an album of theirs I have, which is impressive because their albums are kind of hard to find. This is episode 47 from all the way back in 2014 with Eric Nam a...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 05/14 - 05/20

Another week, another batch of music show wins! This week we got a full set of wins and only one repeat, so that's lots of stages I get to share with you all! Excitement! And four of these wins are first wins for the song, so that's even cooler! Whoo!  For the ASC re-run, I didn't mean to pick another debut. I picked one at random, went "Oh, Seungmin is a host. Oh! This was for NATURE's debut!" Fun times had by all. Three of the members had been in South Korea less than a year, which was cool to learn, and their 2x speed choreography was adorable. A little bit of chaos, a little bit of leggy coltish energy (yes, I know the difference between colt and filly but it's easier and less awkward to say coltish rather than fillyish, which spell check is telling me is not a word), but overall, precious. Also, them singing their debut song in a couple of different languages was cool. Show Champion: P1Harmony "DUH!" MCountdown: MEOVV "Hands Up" ...

Song Review:: TOMORROW X TOGETHER:: Love Language

Image
Release date: 2025 May 02 Album tracklist: Love Language Album runtime: 3 minutes  Well, HYBE, I'm pleased to see they've gotten a song that's longer than two and a half minutes. While we're still under three, it's within an acceptable margin, and thus, here we are. Now, with that out of the way, I saw a bit of the choreography while I was wandering about on Facebook yesterday (today as of writing, but this will be scheduled to post tomorrow), and I almost spat out my root beer. I thought that was Taemin, but no. That was my darling Soobin. So, the post was promptly sent to my Stay friend with what amounted to a keyboard smash of disbelief.  I thought this was starting out fully a capella and so I increased my volume. Nope. But, close enough. Also, the intro reminds me irresistibly of Habit by Seventeen's vocal unit , and while I'll probably refer back to the song when it comes to do the vocals sections, that's fairly high praise already. I can't sa...

Music Show Wins: Week of 11/13 - 11/19

Ros é's reign continues. It's genuinely fascinating to me considering she's not promoting it in Korea. I'm not sure that she's actually promoting at all, but since I haven't spent that much BLACKPINK stuff to begin with, let alone the members' solo careers, I am not the demographic to know what all is going on with her. Still, beginning their own power sweep is TxT. Aespa finally managed to knock Ros é out of her position as queen of Inkigayo at the moment, which is a natural passing of the crown. Let's see if they can keep it for next week or if someone else can get it. On ASC, during the MC Challenge, they had to do it extra times, and then water may have been requested after it. So ONE PACT's challenge is no joke. It entertained me. And Aron talked about his hangout with his members, which made me happy. Show Champion: Tomorrow x Together "Over The Moon" (note: I couldn't find a performance for this, so this is the Inkigayo performan...

Song Review:: TOMORROW X TOGETHER: The Star Chapter: Sanctuary- Over The Moon

Image
Release date: 2024 November 04 Album tracklist: Heaven, Over The Moon , Danger, Resist (Not Gonna Run Away), Forty One Winks, Higher Than Heaven Album runtime: 15 minutes  Ah, yes. One of my March debuts. They're also one of my groups that I worry about due to potential overworking, and Hueningkai's recent health issues at the concert hasn't helped that. They've been all over the place this year, which is sort of good because that means more fans can see them, but also worrisome. They need to be better taken care of.  Oh, good heavens. What is that album length? That was rounded up, which makes it an average song length of less than two and a half minutes. Apparently, the producers took "mini" album a bit too literally. What happened to the days of three minute songs? I'd like an average length of four, but I fear that's too much to ask. Has shrinkflation affected song lengths  as well? None of the members have even a writing credit on Over The Moon , ...

Song Review:: Yeonjun (TOMORROW X TOGETHER): GGUM

Image
Release date: 2024 September 19 Album tracklist: GGUM Album runtime: 2 minutes Well, I don't know about the rest of you all, but that is a short song. I know it rounds up to three minutes, but that's a technicality, and it doesn't feel right to add almost half a minute to the runtime. Despite not being able to identify his voice in the context of TxT, I have somewhat high expectations for this song. Correct me if I'm wrong, but mixtapes don't count as debuts, right? If they do, you'll need to let me know so I can adjust this and tag appropriately.  Why does this sound exactly like battle music from a JRPG? I could swear I've heard the instrumentals somewhere, because my brain is trying to filter that out the way it does battle music. That's not a bad thing. It just makes this task slightly more difficult. The bass and the synth are two of the most present sounds . I just realized which video game the keyboard reminds me of! It reminds me of the game Sh...
