Music Show Wins:: Week of 05/27 - 06/02

 THE SHOW IS BACK, BABY! MY STUBBORNNESS AND HOPE HAS BEEN REWARDED! Anyway, congrats to the artists that got their first wins for the song this week! And we ended up having two Triple Crowns and a first win for a song! It's an exciting time! I'm just delighted.  For the extras, I went with M.O.N.T in 2024 on After School Club on episode 617. I would have sworn the title track for the album was IDGAF , but instead they were promoting Honestly , which I'm not mad about, no matter how much I love IDGAF . Why? Because they showed off their harmonies and playing the instruments. Also, they're adorable and couldn't stop giggling. And because we keep having wins predominately from the Big 4, I'm going to keep adding the extra performances. This week, it was xikers on The Show . As always, the links in the spreadsheet go to my reviews of the songs, and the link down with After School Club goes to the full episode. Enjoy the stages! Show Champion: ZEROBASEONE "TOP ...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 05/20 - 05/26

  Hello, hello! Young groups are having their day right now, with a pair of groups getting our wins for this week, one of which is a first win for a song! Very exciting! It's been a lot of BigHit wins the last couple of months or so, but if you noticed, every single week has had at least one Big 4 win since the end of February. For the After School Club re-run, I went with EVERGLOW from 2024 in Ep. 631! There's a lot of discussion about zombies and general horror in the first part of it, which is delightful considering I'm on a horror kick right now and found a new gamer on YouTube who plays almost exclusively horror games. Well, not new. New to me. Anyway, they were cute. And kind of loud in the second part, which I enjoy for a group. For the The Show re-run, I went with BAE173 from back in 2022, and for the extra stage, I went with I.O.I on MCountdown. As always, the links in the spreadsheet go to my reviews and the link down with ASC goes to the full episode.  Show Champ...

 Triple Crown this week! Grand Slam (still not sure of the term) this week! Congrats to the rookies! For the After School Club re-run, YouTube actually gave me one I hadn't seen yet when I looked the show up. So you all get it. Kevin (singing voice of Mystery Saja) is absolutely adorable in this and the entire group is hilarious. Ep. 73 from 2014, featuring U-KISS! For The Show, I went with Wonho in 2022 with Eye On You. And I'm only giving you one extra stage this week, but that's for a debut in the form of NAZE! As always, the links in the spreadsheet go directly to my reviews and the link down below with ASC goes to the actual episode because the videos sometimes get a bit weird when I try to embed them.   So many first wins for songs, and, I think we may have a first win for a group? I think so? If that's the case, then an even bigger congrats!  I miss back when After School Club was active (yes, I'm still in denial) because then I didn't have to pick an artist. And then I didn't miss seeing those three every week. It was nice getting to see what Aron is up to. Sigh. Don't let my melancholy stop you from enjoying Ep. 576 from back in 2023, featuring ATBO, though! For The Show, I went with Cravity (and it was actually my first time hearing that song; whoever is doing the ad-libs there at the end, yowza) in 2020. I grabbed three extra stages for y'all this week. First up, I went with 82MAJOR, then ILLIT, then Xnghan&Xoul, so I hope you enjoy those as much as I did.  As always, any links in the spreadsheet go to my reviews, and then down with the ASC episode, that link goes to the entire episode, which gets a bit wonky when I try to embed it, so I don't tr...

Song Review:: Cortis: GREENGREEN- TNT

Image
Release date: 2026 May 04 Album tracklist: TNT , REDRED , ACAI , YOUNGCREATORCREW, Wassup, Blue Lips Album runtime: 16 minutes  So many capital letters from these guys. As a side note, I was deeply amused by James's valid crash out over the new-and-false version of the alphabet song. Fun fact, the ememememoh problem kids can have is easily fixed by instead singing it to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star until they get it, and then switching to the correct version. We didn't need a new version. I don't know what role James takes in the group, not a clue, but I have a feeling that this may take up some of their next album, HYBE permitting. Speaking of HYBE, two-minute title track. Alright. This had better have something big if this is going to be two-minutes long. And, it doesn't. The instrumental goes nowhere. It sounds nice. But it just is there and it fades into the background so fast that I'm wildly disappointed. I didn't even notice that it disappeared ...

  Y'all, I just went down a rabbit hole over INKODE, who we should be getting the second boy group debut announcement from soon. Anyway.  We have three first wins for songs this week! Whoo!!! Congrats to those groups! And I believe one of these may be a first win ever, so that's even cooler! For the extra performances, I went with a pretty recent After School Club with Ep. 664 from 2025 and KickFlip. For the The Show re-run, I'm giving you TOMORROW X TOGETHER back when they were still pretty new in 2021. And the two extra stages for this week went to ifeye and UNCHILD. As always, the links in the spreadsheet go to my reviews of the songs. The link down with ASC goes to the full episode because they get weird when I try to embed them. Happy watching, everyone! Song Review:: Cortis: GREENGREEN- REDRED {Pre-Release}

Image
Release date: 2026 May 04 Album tracklist:  TNT , REDRED, ACAI , YOUNGCREATORCREW, Wassup, Blue Lips Album runtime: 16 minutes  It's not many groups that I can't listen to because they have too many minors. Usually it's the fifteen- and fourteen-year-old maknaes that land a group on Underage Protocol. Unfortunately, Cortis is on the list because they have the same issue as my beloved NU'EST at debut, who are the reason why I added that stipulation. Taemin and Max Changmin prompted the under sixteen issue. NU'EST resulted in the >50% rule. Good news is that we have less than a year before I lift that and can stop worrying about it. Cortis's music so far has been kind of hit and miss for me, at least as far as the promoted songs go that I've reviewed, so I'm not sure which side is going to get this song or the title track when the mini album is released. We are still plagued by the HYBE refusal to have songs over three minutes, which will be in sharp re...

 So, as with the other award show posts, my comments will be found down below, after the performances and the winners. I know. It's me, and I like to ramble, but for these, I'm giving you the stuff you're more likely to be interested in first, and then if you want my rambles, they're at the bottom.  Anyway, enjoy the performances and congrats to the winners!  Okie dokie, everyone! My thoughts on things will be down at the bottom, instead of giving a long and verbose introduction, because we all know that what you're here for is actually the performances and the winners. Song Review:: CORTIS: COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES- FaSHioN

Image
Release date: 2025 September 08 Album tracklist: GO! , What You Want , FaSHioN , JoyRide, Lullaby, What You Want (feat. Teezo Touchdown) Album runtime: 17 minutes  I'm going to say something meaningful in a moment, but first, I need to talk about that title. Is that style still used for mocking things? Does it mean something different in Korea when you randomly capitalize letters? I have questions, but hopefully the song itself will answer some of them. Moving on, I'm caught between being pleased that Cortis isn't just being left after their debut and concerned that they're this busy, especially given that all but one of them are minors. It does give me an acceptable reason to listen to their stuff when I can't recreationally listen to them, because with one hit and one miss for me, I'm genuinely really curious about all of this. If you didn't catch either of my reviews for their debut and pre-debut songs, the links are up there, and I'm running on the U...

Song Review:: CORTIS: COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES- What You Want {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2025 September 08 Album tracklist:  GO! ,  What You Want ,  FaSHioN , JoyRide, Lullaby, What You Want (feat. Teezo Touchdown) Album runtime: 17 minutes  I can jive with this one a lot more than their pre-debut song. Instrumentally, it doesn't quite feel full or complete, but on the other hand, with what we have of the song, it feels a lot like a teen song from the 90s. We're talking skateboards, surfers, the chill California vibe. This feels like a summer song, which is a little bit of a bold move to go with for a debut, but I'm actually fully supportive of this move., because while it matches seasonally, it doesn't quite match the current fifth gen sound. Because it does feel rather bare-bones, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it being the debut track, but from a sound and genre standpoint, it's an old enough sound that I have to remember that this isn't an American boy band from the 90s doing a stripped out version of one of their songs...

Song Review:: CORTIS: COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES- GO! {Pre-Debut}

Image
Release date: 2025 September 08 Album tracklist:  GO! ,  What You Want ,  FaSHioN , JoyRide, Lullaby, What You Want (feat. Teezo Touchdown) Album runtime: 17 minutes  Sometimes I write this opening introduction blurb after I've written the meat of the review. Usually I do this first, as in this case because I'm hoping to get some of my initial, lingering frustrations out so that I can try to be more objective for when I'm listening to the actual song. Address the emotions so that they can be better set aside. So, unfortunately, right now it doesn't matter if I like this group or not. I cannot listen to them recreationally until their maknae is eighteen. There is a single member over the age of eighteen (James, 20, formerly of Trainee A, so I'm happy to see him finally debuting), and the other four have already had their birthdays, so we're left with two seventeen-year-olds and two sixteen-year-olds. This is why I have my other rule of majority adults, because ju...
