Song Review:: Sungmin (Super Junior): UNLIMIT- Godsaeng

Image
Release date: 2026 February 02 Album track list:  Godsaeng , Dancing under the Stars, Godsaeng(MR), Dancing under the Stars(MR) Album runtime: 12 mi nutes  It's so nice to be able to be properly creative again instead of administrative and editorial. You have no idea. So I'm going to get some of the songs I've been majorly neglecting done. It's a substantial list unfortunately, so I'm going to get some of the ones I have a good idea that I'm going to like out of the way first to minimize the mental load. And while I couldn't tell you which member Sungmin is right now because I only recognize five on sight and he is not one of them, I'm tentatively hopeful about this. (I am actually vaguely familiar with him as a name and what happened to him, but I didn't remember that until I started digging into the song a little.) I'm very intrigued about the whole MR tracks on this single, but I'll have to take a look at them when I'm done with this. ...

Song Review:: TVXQ!: Identity {Japanese}

Image
Release date: 2026 February 12 Album track list:  Identity Album runtime: 5 mi nutes  SHE LIVES! I have spent the last four days (five days? Week? Time means nothing anymore) adding in some scaffolding and such to the more than 60 Greatest Hits or Battle of the B-Sides posts I've published, including extra work (some of it major remodeling) to about twenty of those to expand them. You can now start at any of those posts and follow links in chronological publishing order, rather than rely solely on the main hub pages for each set.  I'm writing this paragraph before I even know what song I'm going to do, because I have no idea what's come out recently. I didn't even do the weekly music show wins post. I think ATEEZ got some wins? I don't know. I'm so tired. TVXQ! is apparently the group that gets to be my first after that monster undertaking. There are a few others and I should probably do one for a smaller group that needs the exposure more, but, frankly, the...

Song Review:: Lee Jiham (A.C.E): Love before Me- Too late {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2026 February 12 Album track list: Forever Mine , Too late , Film, If you leave me, Still with you Album runtime: 18 mi nutes  Whoo! He debuted as a soloist! We get to hear this lovely voice out in the wild now! And the runtime almost makes me want to cry from joy.  Okay, you know what? I'm down with this guitar. It's very calm and comforting. It takes a bit for the drums to properly join in although we get a small burst of them earlier. But the song gets so much time with just the guitar in the instrumental that I'm intrigued and pleased by this. The contrast of the verses and the chorus is delightful, full energy shift.  He's wailing  everyone. It's part of the ad-libs at the end, but it's incredible and I'm not just saying that because his vibrato gets fully unleashed in that little section. It's been such a long time since I've heard a proper wail like that in music. They've fallen out of style, which is fine because musical tre...

Battle of the B-Sides:: Moonbin&Sanha (ASTRO): Ghost Town

Image
 My Stay friend who is also an Aroha asked me if I'd cover this one. It's been a long time since she suggested it, but I've been trying to figure out how I want to cover it because there's a very obvious approach to this, but that wasn't part of the original context of the song. It's only context that has developed from the passage of time and Moonbin's death, which isn't something I necessarily want to focus on because of the aforementioned non-original context and also that's also a bit more recent than I like to address The Sad. So there's that. This isn't the first group that I've done a post for that has lost a member (SHINee, f(x), Ladies' Code), but this one is by far the most recent. Moonbin and Sanha are two of the three youngest members of the boy group ASTRO under Fantagio Entertainment. They debuted in ASTRO back in 2016, and debuted as a subunit together in 2020.  Ghost Town was the pre-release from their second mini albu...

Song Review:: Lee Daeyeol (Golden Child): Where Stars Grow {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2026 February 12 Album track list:  Where Stars Grow Album runtime: 4 mi nutes  I do not know who you are, but the YouTube algorithm gave me your music video, and so here I am doing this so that I do not forget to do it. I'm hoping that Golden Child is going to find a new home and this isn't actually the d-word because I really like this group. But, we're going to focus on him for the moment, not the group. this is Golden Child's leader and part of the '93 line, along with Suga, Taemin, Aron, Peniel, and D.O. And! It's his solo debut! Congrats to him! This song starts off so softly, but it's a lovely bright soft. The song gets a little more complexity once the vocals start up, added heft and solidness but nothing particularly overpowering. If this isn't in the comfort category of songs, I'll be deeply surprised because this is hitting me right in the Seventeen vocal unit and "almost everything by BTOB" spot in my brain. While ...

Song Review:: i-dle: Mono

Image
Release date: 2026 January 27 Album track list: Mono (feat. ska water) Album runtime: 3 mi nutes  So, they got a music show win (actually several, but there only needs to be one), which means that I have to kick my butt into gear and get this review written. It's not that I didn't want to write this, nor that I didn't think this would get at least a win, but I also tend to follow my soul's whimsy to give songs the attention they deserve. It does mean that sometimes songs slip through the cracks (which is why I have that spot for the regular reviews in The Form, which you can always submit a song to do a regular review for, even if the song hasn't come out yet). This is a club song without being one of the whipped into a frenzy kind, which means that the beat is very solid and present, but there's also very little variation to it. It's got one spot where it goes more mystical, but it doesn't last long before the best returns. The meaningful variation is v...

Greatest Hits:: BB Girls: Rollin'

Image
Edit: So. Um. I don't know what happened to this, because I have the rest of the post saved in the doc I use to store the actual text. But that meant I had to reformat the entire thing. So, if a link doesn't work or if it sounds like there should have been a link, do let me know so I can fix it.  After a January filled with big profiled names (three of which were from the same Big 4 company), I wanted to settle a little back into the smaller companies. And after the last few posts, I wanted to shift back to something a lot brighter both lyrically and compositionally. So, while I wait for some more submissions, you're going to get this one. You know I love those underdog recovery stories, so let's talk about a well-known one. Technically, they're going by BB Girls now, but since this was what they were called when this song was released, that's how we're going to refer to them in this post. Brave Girls originally debuted in 2011 under Brave Entertainment as a...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 02/04 - 02/10

Image
  Girl group domination this week! One established powerhouse and one rookie that's setting stages on fire. Metaphorically speaking.  For the extra stages, in honor of Oneus getting a new home after leaving RBW (and I think this might be a good choice for them, tentatively), I snagged one of their After School Club appearances (Ep. 456 from 2021). I also have to say that even though Seoho very clearly was not a fan of the crop top, I love that Jamie was checking in with him. She shouldn't have had to, but I'm glad that she did. And to go with the RBW theme for these two, I'm going to give you a MAMAMOO stage for The Show from back in 2018. And then, for the extra stage from this week, I was actually impressed with the debut song for Navillera, so I decided to make sure to share that one.  The links in the spreadsheets, as always, go to my reviews. And because sometimes the After School Club link gets weird, that goes to the YouTube video. Show Champion: KiiiKiii "4...

Song Review:: Yang Yoseob (Highlight/BEAST): Unloved Echo- Fade Away

Image
Release date: 2026 February 09 Album track list: Fade Away , Dear My, Don't Go Away, Moonlit Mirage, Nightly, Shine Album runtime: 20 mi nutes  If this is the member I think he is, he's so funny when they do their monthly gaming stream. He's also one of the ones who is better at gaming in general and doesn't scream at the slightest spook. That's basically all of the content that I watch of those guys because I like watching the idols play video games. It's an intersection of two of my great loves. He's also the main vocalist, so I'm curious about what kind of vocal prowess we're about to hear from this, his third mini album. Most of the instrumental for the first part of the home is a piano, which gives the song a softness to it, especially since it's just wonderfully melodic and simple. The standard addition of drums and strings (which instantly makes it a win in my book as we know) continues with that softness. The song does kick up its heels a...

Song Review:: Monsta X: growing pains

Image
Release date: 2026 February 06 Album track list:  growing pains Album runtime: 3 mi nutes  Well, here we are, friends. Monsta X has dropped another English single for us (which is a spoiler for me even though I haven't heard it yet.) That does amuse me a little bit because apparently today is my day to cover English tracks because I also covered NOWZ's and posted it today. The instrumental for this song is, quite frankly, a track from a movie sound track. This is the soft, sentimental road trip section when they're setting off after graduating from college and before they have to get on with the real world. It would probably be a movie that I don't watch because I don't particularly like the realistic fiction genre because more often than not they make me cry and it's a bad cry in my chest. But that's the part they'd put in the trailer to show the bond they have. I may not like those movies, but they regularly have banger soundtracks. There are multiple ...

Song Review:: NOWZ: Hooked

Image
Release date: 2026 February 06 Album track list: Hooked Album runtime: 3 mi nutes  Okay, so this song is an English collaboration with Nigel Tay that was released for Valentine's Day. The last little bit, we've been getting songs from them that I really like and while I'm hopeful that we'll get more songs from them that I like, I'll understand if we get back to songs I like less again.  Well, we don't need to worry about that, everyone. That was an immediate yes. This is a very bright song, the brightest that I think we've heard from them so far, definitely the brightest title track we've gotten from them so far. The energy of the song is playfully high without being frenetic with an added grounded-ness because of how strong that bass guitar is. I recognize that it's not the most interesting thing to be playing for the bass guitarist, but without it, the entire balance of the song would be off.  It's nice to see them show that they can do the rap...

Battle of the B-Sides: AKMU: Whale

Image
 Coming to you from The Form, this one has been on the list for a while, but I was waiting for a good spot for them. With them having left YGE after eleven years, and with the recent batch of these fun little posts, this one feels like a good spot. I haven't heard this one, so I don't know how the communication between those songs is going to work, because while I'd like to say there's no rhyme or reason to these other than "Look at how amazing these songs are", I cannot help but try to build them like chapters in a book with a logical flow of events so that you the reader do not get overwhelmed by having too much of the same thing for too long. I didn't get anything other than the song from whoever submitted this one, but that's okay! I'll just go with what I can find and what I think is cool. For those who are unaware, AKMU is a brother-sister duo who debuted back in 2014 under YG Entertainment. They won K-Pop Star 2 and got the offer to sign wi...

Song Review:: Raina (After School): Almost Love

Image
Release date: 2026 February 05 Album track list:  Almost Love , Almost Love - Inst. Album runtime: 4 mi nutes  I can't believe I almost missed this! I'm disappointed by the barely two minute runtime, although a better word would be horrified, but she is one of the group's main vocalists, the group's first soloist, and because of how bad Pledis can be at managing and promoting their groups, especially their two earliest ones, I never know how familiar people are with them as a group, if not as soloists even if none of them are with Pledis anymore. I'm excited to share her voice with you. She also did recently call out and condemn stalking behavior she's been experiencing, so good for her.  This is a very chill instrumental. It's a lot of guitar with a very soft overlay because of the chimes. This is kind of putting me to sleep a little bit. Not that that's particularly difficult right now given how tired I am, but in general, this is just a calm instrumen...

Song Review:: NAVILLERA: No Limit {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2026 February 03 Album track list: No Limit Album runtime: 3 mi nutes  Who are you, NAVILLERA? Let's go discover, shall we? They're a four-member group under Troy Entertainment (which is based in Mongolia). The elder two were part of the group KELT9B, which debuted in 2024. I still have their debut song sitting in my drafts, but given that two of them have popped up here and there has been no follow-up since then, we're going to assume that the group has disbanded. That's unfortunate. The other two members are Mongolian, which is the opposite of unfortunate and I think it's really cool. And their debut is a healthy 3:12 seconds with all of the members fully adults, so this is something I really want to support. You know, if they could get some attention, they could probably do well with this song. I feel like I recognize the genre, though I don't think it's either trap or house (could be wrong, I'm very tired right now because the D&D s...

Song Review:: ATEEZ: GOLDEN HOUR : Part.4- Adenaline

Image
Release date: 2026 February 06 Album track list: Ghost, Adrenaline , NASA, On The Road, Choose Album runtime: 16 mi nutes  My Stay friend had to remind me that today was the day that this was happening. I swear, I have lost all sense of time in February. Time means literally nothing. Okay. Let's see where they are going this time. And almost right off the bat we've got a Hongjoong giggle. Okay. That's what we're looking at. Wow. Okay. I have said that word so many times already that it's ceased to have meaning. This instrumental has gone full Cyberpunk 2077 . I can already sense that we're going to get some intense choreography here, and it's definitely another of their war anthems and it's being added to some of my playlists, specifically the road trip one and the work out one. From a technical standpoint, it's well-written for the control of energy, which means that this build is intense. The whole song is intense, and very heavy. It's not just...

Song Review:: Lee Jiham (A.C.E.): Forever Mine {Pre-Debut}

Image
Release date: 2026 February 12 Album track list:  Forever Mine,  Too late , Film, If you leave me, Still with you Album runtime: 18 mi nutes  Well, last year we had the very stunning solo debut for Junhee, and now we're coming up on the solo debut for Donghun, now going by Lee Jiham. His voice is incredible. While I am as well watching Build Up, I was rooting for him so hard because he's got an amazing voice. I of course couldn't recall his name because I'm terrible with them, but every time I saw him or his name pop up, I was like "Oh! A.C.E boy!" I think my dream team for that would have been him, Jay, Grim Reaper Boy (Je Up), and Bitsaeon. Alas. Still, I'm happy to be able to celebrate his solo debut with him next week. May it be successful. We're starting off with a piano to set the mood and soften the ear before his vocals step in. It's also a classic example of building line upon line and precept upon precept, because while that piano is a co...

January 2026 Wrap-Up: Pivot! Pivot! Pivot!

Image
 First one of the year, everyone! I was so stressed about certain things that I kind of completely missed that we'd tipped into February. Good news, January feels like it took only 34 years to get through instead of the 37 years January 2025 took. Progress. Make sure that you're getting your sunshine and supplements for vitamin D. Seasonal depression is no joke. I have a new planner (this one from the BTOB season's greetings) that I'm using to keep track of specifically when artists are having releases and what groups are debuting each month, as well as some blog specific stuff, (like stuff for the 2026 music show wins recap post, how many posts I cover for each month, etc). I figure that they'd appreciate it being used instead of me just going "Look how pretty!!!!!" and never using it.  January debuts! The full groups that I covered are LATENCY , Alpha Drive One , LNGSHOT , dodree , and ChRocktikal . The subunits I covered yesweare (idntt) and DxS (Seven...
