Song Review:: Hyolyn (Sistar): Standing On The Edge

Release date: 2025 December 23 Album tracklist:  Standing On The Edge Album runtime: 4 minutes  I like it when she drops music, even if I don't get to it right away. First of all, her voice is a work of beauty. Second of all, I'll always support the older idols continuing with music as it exceedingly helps with the musical ecosystem, you know? The experience they have is just as vital as the fresh energy and hunger of the younger ones. This is a good song to end the year with. There's a soft weight to the instrumental that knows when to stay out of the way of the vocals, but also never lets the song move to far away from a very grounded sound. There's a peacefulness and a sort of accepted release to the song that can only function because of the spots where the instrumental is basically just the piano. Her dance heavy tracks are very nice, but this one is where her voice just shines uncomplicated by messy extras. This is something where she can just sing her heart out, ...

Release date: 2025 September 02 Album tracklist: SHOTTY Album runtime: 3 minutes  If I'd been caught up for the last few months, this would not have been my first Hyolyn review. Alas, this one was. In other news, watching Queendom 2  (because even though I wholly disagree with the whole potential elimination thing, I like to use them to get to know groups, their dynamics, and their styles), I was a little unsure about why everyone was kind of falling over themselves for her. Like, she was good. But I wasn't that impressed. Hearing her live, however? I heard her voice and went "I repent of my previous opinion. I was wrong. She's amazing." Owns the stage. She's incredible. And it's over three minutes, so I'm looking forward to this. I'm less surprised than I thought I would be about this being a sultry track.
