The debut of a new subunit is always an exciting time and considering what group this is a subunit of, I'm very interested. I haven't listened to a lot of the base group's songs, but the ones I have, I've found very interesting. The members involved in this subunit are KB, Jisung, and Nine, which is apparently a very interesting combination considering Jisung is the former leader of OnlyOneOf, who left the group in 2021. I have to say, that has me forcing down some strong excitement because there are some groups who have had members leave that I'd love to see return. So while I haven't gotten to experience this necessarily first hand, were that to happen, I'd probably spend the entire music video bawling my eyes and heart out because of how happy I was. I can empathize with those fans. And every single one of these songs is over three minutes long.
I cannot express how much I perked up with that opening guitar. It had my attention literally within two seconds, and then the layers of the song did a great job of holding it. The rhythm of the song is precise and follows the expected rhythm really well, which might sound unappealing, but not having to guess where the song is going lets me settle into it and focus on other things rather than keeping me off balance. The variations in the song occur exactly where I expect them to, and it's something that I appreciate a lot. But for a debut? I don't know. I'll have to listen to the rest of the album and figure out how I feel about this as a debut in the context of the whole mini album.
I'm very satisfied with the vocals here. It's that punk rock sound from the late 00s that I adore so much complete with sass and drama. I'm really being spoiled this year with how many songs I've been loving. There are some brief vocal effects that don't hinder the vocals from actually being heard but that do add a lot of good touches to the song. I'm very satisfied. They took a few more risks with the vocals than with the instrumental, but that's fine because it means that they get to show off a little bit more vocally, and since this is not an instrument band, I'm fine with that slight imbalance.
It's that permission to be weird and uncool. I also love that the three of them are agents of chaos and freedom, breaking the hold everyone else is under, which is a good metaphor for how I understand the full group to be, concept-wise.
