Music Show Wins:: Week of 04/01 - 04/07

Image
  I think the term for when a song gets a full set of wins is a "Grand Slam", which has a different meaning as a tennis player but is no less impressive. Oh, a song got one of those this week. Whoo! Congrats! Because of that and the lack of music show performances for that song, I decided to add another extra performance. It doesn't make up for the five, but if things go as I expect them to, next week should be the last one where I have minimal performances to show y'all. So, for the After School Club re-run, I went with RAINBOW in Ep. 201 back in 2016. They were actually one of the first groups to be on After School Club at all! Not this episode. Although because of which channel this came from, you get the whole episode embedded here! For The Show , I went with a pretty recent one from last year for 8TURN. Then for the two extra stages, I went with Kangmin on MCountdown and Baby DONT Cry on Show! Music Core . The links in the spreadsheet, as always, go to my revie...

Song Review:: Kangmin (Verivery): Free Falling- Free Falling {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2026 March 26 Album tracklist: Intro : small, fragile, and still here; Free Falling ; in the mirror Album runtime: 8 minutes  The Verivery maknae has debuted as a soloist! Some of you may remember him from Boys Planet 2 (and I've got a soft spot for him a mile wide because Baekho talked to him and gave him some very specific advice), and while I'm sad that he didn't make it into the final group, I don't mind it as much because he's back with his group and they have released music since Boys Planet 2. They need to release more, but for now, it's okay. And this is his solo debut! I'm disappointed by the runtime for this song though. Especially for a debut, it's far too short. Ooh, that sounds like a maraca we've got going on here. That's fun. The skittering beat that pops in, especially during the chorus, feels like it's too much for the style of the vocals and it creates an uncomfortable disconnect, especially when the song is ca...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 03/11 - 03/17

  We're almost finished with the first quarter of 2026! How is everyone feeling? Good still?  We've got girl group dominance this week for the wins, including a first win for a song! Whoop! So for the After School Club re-run, I grabbed an early episode, ep. 22 from 2013 featuring the boy group History! (side note, that sequence of groups is a little incredible because you have NU'EST, then History, then BTOB, then BTS). And I picked that clip to go as the embedded video because you get them singing a capella. For the The Show re-run, I went with Verivery from 2021 and the extra stage is from Show Champion for the OnlyOneOf subunit QQQ, which debuted recently! I also decided to include an old stage from Show Champion because I ran into it and the choreography is both adorable and hilarious, but their voices send me. But since we were thinner on the recent stages, I'm giving you that extra one. As always, the links down in the spreadsheet go to my reviews of the songs an...

December 2025 Wrap-Up: Winter is Ahead, But So Is Spring

Image
 Okay, everyone! Last one of the year! Whoo! Let's finish this off strong. Since it's likely that everyone will be reading this after we've hit the new year, no matter where we are, I'm just going to say Happy New Year! May your days be merry and bright! Make sure that you drink enough water and get enough sunlight! Unless, of course, you live somewhere that doesn't have a lot of sunlight right now, in which case, make sure you get your recommended dose of vitamin D to help compensate for that since your natural synthesis is more or less offline right now. Okay, December debuts! I actually covered four soloists who debuted this month. We had Yim Siwan from ZE:A, Chuei Li Yu , Choi Sungyun from Golden Child, and Lee Sungyeol from INFINITE. I have no idea who else debuted as soloists, but I'm delighted to share these guys. Groups that debuted are MEP-C (a multinational girl group) and BEWAVE - Jiun & Yunseul (BEWAVE subunit that tells me I need to add ano...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 12/10 - 12/16

 This is Verivery's first win in over three years. I'm so relieved. Y'all, they have been stressing me out. because they deserve so much better. Also, I find it hilarious that the extra stage for last week was them, and then this week they get a win. But, good news is that they're not the only first win for a song on the list. Taeyeon also got a win for her new song, and that's exciting, as is a third win for Hwasa! MCountdown is still out and Inkigayo is out for the rest of the year. I'm feeling a little sentimental, so I decided on Ep. 615 of After School Club featuring VANNER to share with you all. This was, funnily enough, one of the first ASC episodes I watched. Time sure flies. They're seriously so sweet, and JACKPOT was produce by Hui and Wooseok of Pentagon and another one of their songs from that album was produced by Hyunsik from BTOB. I really love that album, you guys. The Show stage is from earlier this year and I picked my boys xikers with thei...

Music Show Wins:: Week of 12/03 - 12/09

 Y'all, I am so stoked about this batch of wins. That's my girl right there! Congrats to everyone else on their wins! Sorry for the lack of energy in this. I just found out about Baekho's enlistment, which I knew had to be coming, but my dude literally put it off until the last moment. Which means he won't be getting out until June of 2027, I think. "The sooner they go in, the sooner they come out" which is my normal, go-to pep-talk, doesn't really apply in this case. Anyway, I grabbed Rocket Punch for the ASC re-run (they're adorable), Golden Child for The Show re-run (I freaking love their music), and Verivery for the extra stage from Music Core  (synchronization kings right there). They're all excellent.  The links in the spreadsheet go to my reviews. The link down on ASC goes to the episode because it's weird about embedding the actual video.  Show Champion: Stray Kids "Do It" MCountdown: N/A Music Bank: ILLIT "NOT CUTE ANY...

Song Review:: VERIVERY: Lost and Found- RED (Beggin')

Image
Release date: 2025 December 01 Album tracklist: RED (Beggin') , empty, Blame us Album runtime: 9 minutes  I've never gotten to do a review for this group before, which makes me sad because I really like this group and they need more attention. One of the most synchronized groups in all of K-Pop, y'all. But at least we're getting a release now, even if it's only a single. That opening sounds like an old movie and I am living for it. There are a lot of shifts and variations happening in the instrumental, which I love. We've also got a stringed instrument happening, and we all know that if I hear one, I'm all about that. It's a little bit too short for me to be content with the runtime, but generally speaking, I kind of love this. There's so much drama in the instrumental, and that includes an electric guitar that does not steal focus. You know what song this intro reminds me of? Skyfall by Adele. There are bits throughout where I'm reminded again ...
