Look, I'll be completely forthright about this. Found this guy on Instagram a couple of weeks ago, said he was making his K-Pop debut and with an emphasis on the violin. Say less, bro. Y'all know me. But then a couple of days later, I see a reel where he's like "My manager just told me that I'm going to be performing on some of the music shows." The nervous energy on this kid (no idea the age, I'm assuming younger than me and everyone is kid if they're younger than me) had me commenting "I'll make sure to add one of your stages to my music show wins post since I have the spot for extra stages." And he responded. So just so everyone knows, that will be included next week. However, he's also a) a new debut and b) most likely from a very small company, both of which are things that I'm very much wanting to support, especially with the loss of The Show, which I am still angry about. I also just learned that he may actually be older than me, which is baffling but you know what? Again, I'm very supportive of people debuting at an older age. I'm really hoping that with the violin, I'm going to love it. I should learn what the word "violin" is in Korean since I love the instrument so much.

It was not easy to find and only my weird habit of looking at video descriptions directed me towards it. So. If you're looking for it on Spotify, that is here. If you are looking for YouTube Music, that is here. If you're looking for Amazon Music, that is here. And if you use anything else, you can find it in the description of the music video.

Okay. Well, I like it and this is epic to the point that I don't even think that this is a video game boss battle. This is just straight up an anime boss battle, where one of the main characters is facing down the Big Bad, wounded, at the point of defeat, the last one standing between the villain and the end of the world, as is normal. Then the clouds part and the hero, previously thought defeated, comes screaming out of the sky to smash into the Big Bad and giving the other character enough time to get up and fight back again. In describing that scene, I'm realizing how similar it is to the end of Jurassic World with Blue and Sue versus the Indominus Rex. I mean, I have no problem with thinking of Sue as the hero of Jurassic Park. She's been my favorite individual dinosaur since I saw the movie the first time when I was three. Huh. I'm going to be unpacking that later. Going back to my original point before I wandered off onto a dino tangent, the energy progression and build through this song is excellent. It's very well written, and it has the room to have that progression because of its length, which is not wasted. We start with just the violin, which is a declaration for a debut in and of itself, and then you get rumbling synth like an invading spaceship before it goes into something that slowly builds on that energy and the promise of the introduction. Also, there's a spot that reminds me of The Devil Went Down To Georgia, which is probably one of the highest compliments I can give due to the fact that I know how hard that song is and that I know that song shreds bows.

I promise that I'm not starry-eyed and I'm simply being honest, despite the Instagram interaction. But this debut is doing everything I want from a debut. We've got such a showcase of range here, from the soft, low rumbles, to a very solid head voice and just about everything I could want in between, including the range from singing to rapping. I'm hoping that's a stylistic autotune applied that I can hear and not a necessary one, but I also think that it may have smoothed his vibrato out more than I want to be hearing. I think I'm still hearing it a little on the end of some of the words though, which is impressive if it managed to fight through the autotune anyway.

I think my dog may approve, which is shocking, because he doesn't like music and he licked my leg twice while I was listening to this.

It's very cool that some of the choreography moves are designed to mimic playing a violin. This is very much a vibes and visuals music video, complete with a little bit of bare-chestedness, which largely felt unnecessary, although there was one spot with the water where it felt like it worked, and that spot worked really well. But I also know that the budget might be tight for a small company, so maybe that many shirts wasn't in the budget. This is a joke.
