Song Review:: JinJin (ASTRO): JIN LAB Project 8. [Runaway]

 Ooh, he dropped another surprise single. He's been a busy bee this year. I don't know if this was actually a surprise, and I'm sure people in the fandom could tell me if it was or wasn't, but it was a surprise to me. What a way to round off the month than with another entry into his singles series.

I'd be more upset about the run time, but these are his pet projects, and he can be as experimental as he wants for them. 

These instrumentals remind me of country music, which is the primary genre I listened to up until fairly recently. The vocal styling is not, but the instrumentals themselves feel familiar. This is lovely and a bit of a hug, but ultimately the instrumentals don't change too much. The only variation we get is at about the two minute mark, which means that the instrumentals are meant to take the back burner for the vocals. 

I don't know what the words mean, but there's a line in here that's the same as in xikers's Witch. So I'm proud of myself for at least recognizing that. JinJin's got a rapper rasp to his voice that isn't as prominent as it could be, but still gives the song as a whole a nice texture to it. I think he's got what my mother would call a boyfriend voice. The amount of repetition plus his warm, a little-raspy voice is very much a good, soothing sound that makes me want to go to sleep.

Halloween Spookening: 2024 Edition

 I love Halloween. It's been my favorite holiday for literally my entire life. I have loved Halloween longer than Sangyeon of The Boyz has been alive, barely because my first Halloween was a couple of days before he was born, but according to my mother, even at the age of not-quite one years old, I have loved it. She dressed me up as a San Francisco 49ers cheerleader. I have pictures.  One of the most important things, then, is finding music that matches the Month of Spookening and horror. I love spooky movies. I love spooky books. I love spooky video games (even though I am a wuss of the nth degree and prefer to watch other people play them). And I love spooky music.      Much like a recipe blog, this K-Pop review blog depends on the path leading me to where I am at today to dictate my tastes and how I perceive the world. Greatest Hits:: Taeyeon (Girls' Generation): INVU

 Last of the girl group submissions for the moment, then I get to move on to some of the boy groups, but it's not just boy groups. There's a co-ed submission in there, which is such a yay from me. I'm excited for that. But! I'm also very excited for this, because she is a second gen heavy weight, reigning champion of an artist. Award-winning. Best-selling. Chart topping. And that's just her as a soloist, that's not even counting the years before that as the leader of Girls' Generation, which is one of the most well-known groups to come out of K-Pop. I admire her a lot, as you can tell, and I also think she's really cool. And funny. I don't know if she's generally known for her humor, but I think she's hilarious. She's also fairly out-spoken which is something else that I admire about her, but the group turns eighteen this year. But by the time this gets published, The CrewOne will have been on ASC, which means that I have to follow my rules. For the uninitiated, The CrewOne was a team put together for Ace of Ace  consisting of the fourth gen boy groups ATBO and JUST B. Apparently disbandment was in their future before the two groups got put together, which is completely ridiculous as JUST B debuted in 2021 and ATBO debuted in 2022. I'm sorry, there are a number of groups that went on to be very successful after three not-successful years and if their companies had disbanded them, the face of K-Pop would be radically different. Music Show Wins:: Week of 01/29 - 02/04

What did I say in the review (which you can refer back to in the link in the graph directly below this) for Minnie? I said that I thought HER  would get two wins and we're already halfway there. Nice. I'm still waiting for Show Champion and The Show to resume, because when one of the others, like, say, Show! Music Core , doesn't have a winner, that decreases the number of potential first place wins for groups, and I know how important those are. On After School Club, we had KickFlip with their ASC debut, and despite the technical difficulties, it was absolutely precious watching them see the dance covers and the fan art that got submitted. How sweet for the rookies, especially since some of them were trainees longer than some groups are together full stop. Battle of the B-Sides:: NU'EST: ONE KISS2

 Even though I desperately want to do nothing but talk about my absolute ult and first group, the unfortunate reality I face every time I have to pick a song for either a GH or a BBS post, and it's one that everyone who is a fan of a disbanded group is aware of, is that until and unless they get back together after their enlistments, NU'EST songs are a finite resource. If I go hog wild on them, I will run out of them quickly. So, really, I should save them for special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries. And this isn't one, but I have also spent the past week or so just missing them. So I'm ignoring the suggestions for this posting cycle, I'm ignoring the Roulette Wheel, and I'm ignoring the irrationality of the emotion. March 2025 Wrap-Up: It's Alive!!!!!!

 This was a distressing and emotional month for me, which is why it's taken me this long to get this one out. But! I think I'm finally enough caught up now that I feel comfortable with this being a comprehensive post for the month. Starting off with the debuts, I actually covered quite a few of them, which pleases me. Hoshi and Woozi debuted as a subunit of Seventeen. I also covered In A Minute , KiiiKiii , NewBeat , and RE:WIND . Those are all the links to the debuts I covered. Obviously, I'm ecstatic over the HxW even though I know very well what it means, and equally distraught over the song length problem.
