I'm supporting this group very much because nothing warms my heart than seeing a group from a smaller company having a meteoric rise. I can't listen to them yet because the maknae was fifteen at debut, but she turns eighteen before the end of the month, so I'm very close to being able to listen to their discography and figure out what songs I want to add to my playlist. Pretty Girl is definitely already on that list. But before I start this one, it might be wise of the company to capitalize on the second gen love and focus on that sound for the group.
Something about the song's combination and configuration of the instruments reminds me of the eighties, but with less drama. It's a lot more delicate without being elevator music or super light and airy. I'm pleased with the balance, even if I'm not as enthused by the limited personality to the song in this part, but we do have a couple of spots where we get energy shifts, which is one of the things I look for.
RESCENE is hootin' and hollerin', y'all. Listen to those ad-libs. I spent the majority of that first listen for the instrumental while trying not to listen to the vocals being a little bit nonplussed about the vocals we were getting because they weren't quite what I was wanting until those ad-libs hit and the rest of the song opened up in a way that it literally wouldn't have otherwise. The experience was elevated. We get little bits of vibrato before then, and we get a little bit teased with bigger vocals, but the ad-libs unlock the song. A lot of weight sits on whichever member has to do them, but what we're looking at is close to what I want from a group. I genuinely think they've got the potential to have the vocals to appropriately and competently cover some of the vocally big second gen groups, but they also need to develop some distinctness in their vocals if they really want those rich songs of their predecessors. If the company can afford it, they should the members different vocal coaches.
The music video for this and the music video I Like You by ODD YOUTH are sister music videos. One has them being dragged around and fighting with the big creature and the other has them trying to flirt with the big creature. But they're still sister music videos and are delightfully odd.
