Am I really behind because this was the pre-release and the album is out now? Yes? Could I have just done the title track and gotten to this one later? Yes. The problem with that, though, is that I'd be delaying doing a song released under the name B2ST for the first time in almost a decade. Which I've already done and don't want to do any longer. Cube giving them back the name B2ST even though they said they were going to keep going by Highlight was one of the best decisions Cube made in the last few years (which also includes giving BTOB their name also, but I digress). Also, I listened to the album yesterday and it scratched an itch for me.
I really love the crackling at the beginning of this song. First of all, it reminds me of my favorite B2ST song (Fiction), and second of all, it's an aural clue to go back in time, something important when Highlight is going back in time to release a song under the name B2ST. The piano and the slow beats from the drum set make the song incredibly soft, but not so soft that you're fully enveloped in it. There's a nice firmness to the drum set to hold you in place. And then, most delightedly, there's a cheeky guitar that pops in to wave and shift the dynamic of the song a little.
There's a reason why they've made it for over fifteen years. They've got incredible voices and solid rappers who aren't bad vocalists themselves. They actually debuted right about at the start of the huge debut boom, so it's not like their competition wasn't stiff. With this song, and like with Fiction, the focus is on emotive pain and loss, and their voices weep with it. And this is apparently what happens when I start reading novels again. But seriously, that chorus is a grieving love letter to a love and a time that's gone but is constantly still ending.
There isn't really a music video for the song, so I'll just give you this.
