Song Review:: P1Harmony: DUH!- DUH!

  • Release date: 2025 May 07
  • Album tracklist: DUH!, Pretty Boy, Murmur, Flashy, Over and Over, Work
  • Album runtime: 19 minutes

 This is a genuinely fun group, y'all. I just want you all to know this. Also, they got their first wins last year, which is so, so exciting for them. Took a little over three years for them, but better late than never. Also, I'm hoping to see this one get another win at least for my peace of mind and likely the company's as well.

This is very 90s hip-hop in places. We've got sirens going on, we've got that very specific sharp beat, and we've got that grounding, low bass to give a strong consistency. When the song opens up to the more melodic sections, everything softens, but turns into a siren in the second half of each of the sections, a different siren than the whoops that we hear in the hip-hop sections.

Slight rant incoming.

So G.O.A.T literally stands for "greatest of all time". The first time I heard it, I believe it was in reference to Tom Brady, an American football player. And I remember wrinkling my nose and thinking "To quantitatively state that someone is the greatest of all time means you'd have to go back, look at stats, but also look at legacy. And then you'd have to somehow put all of the greats on equal playing field, even though the conditions older greats were under are not necessarily the same as the current greats." And every time I've heard it since then, with basketball, with tennis, and then music, I've been reminded of that initial reaction, because it still feels like such an audacious claim to make and no one ever has the data to back it up when they make the claim (As soon as I learned in middle school that you can make whatever claim you want as long as you have the data and references to back it up (even if you are in fact wrong), I've been demanding that, because the world suddenly made sense that way. I was a weird, logical child who lived in books and video games, a joy to be around, I'm sure (this is sarcasm)). Now, there are certainly greats. I tend to call them heavyweights or heavyweight champs, which is a boxing or MMA term and another arena where G.O.A.T gets thrown around a lot. Top tier in their fields, whatever field that be, whether it's creative, physical, or logical. They're the pioneers, the ones who change the game and also win the game. So the term "greatest of all time" is not something that I use lightly, if at all, and there are degrees of laughability to these claims, particularly if someone is claiming that they themselves are a G.O.A.T.

I'm not particularly fond of the amount of rapping and shouting in the song, but when I force myself to listen to the rhythm and break it down that way, it works. Lyrics, I do have a little bit of a problem with in parts, but generally, it's a nice enough song. It's not necessarily one I'm going to be adding to a bunch of playlists, although there are a couple on the mini album that I think will be, but when I run into comments saying how amazing the song is, I'm not going to automatically disagree with them. Instead, it will be a "I don't agree with it, but I can see where you're coming from." I like songs like this a lot.

I can't believe I didn't recognize Keeho saying "Duh". Shame on me. This is a proper music video. I don't need all of the music videos to be filled with absolute chaos, but it does create a storyline of what I can only tell are superheroes who just decide that they're done and they don't want to do the heroing thing anymore, to the point of completely ignoring the chaos and destruction of the city around them. Buildings literally exploding? Not their problem. Been there, done that, and they're retired. Also, the entire group is filled with visuals. Like, that is insane. They all look so good, even when they're slightly banged up and grungy.
