Song Review:: OH MY GIRL: Weather Diary

  • Release date: 2025 July 22

  • Album tracklist: Weather Diary, Weather Diary (Inst.)

  • Album runtime: 6 minutes

I am fairly confident in saying that this is their tenth anniversary release that was first heard in their concert back in April. Do I get a little twitchy around tenth anniversaries? Yes. But I'd have heard if the d-word has applied to them, and it hasn't. So, yay! Also, I'm quite pleased for the song length. Songs seem to be both lengthening and shortening these days. and obviously I'm an advocate for them being at minimum three minutes long. OH MY GIRL delivered on that here.

The good news is that even though this is a pretty relaxed song, it's actually got quite a lot of different bits making up the instrumental, which makes the mellowness feel intentional, rather than an apathetic consequence. A stronger drum line would make this song quite energetic, but the song doesn't need it. This is a ten year anniversary song, and a sense of celebration, but not necessarily rushed, is wholly appropriate under the circumstances. This is a hug.

The thing I really appreciate about this song is that, even though it is fairly mellow and mild, the vocals area well supported, and they're not just fairy-like the entire time. But, even if they were, the song also has some absolutely gorgeous runs. More rapping would actually be nice to hear in this song, especially if it's a slower, more lyrical rap just to add a different texture to the song, but even without it, I really like the sound of this song. Their vocals are really pretty and as expected of a ten year old group.

A compilation clip from concerts, including a performance of this song. I'm so happy that they got to have this, even if it makes me sad. But the sad isn't about OH MY GIRL. I'm very happy that they got to have a ten year anniversary concert where they got to perform their anniversary song.
