Song Review:: CIX: GO Chapter 1 : GO Together- WONDER YOU

 That is an album title, y'all. Goodness. Don't get me wrong, I love weird album titles that make it sound like they're a book title from a series. It's just that how I title these reviews make the weird, long album titles that sound like they're a book title from a series look really weird and overly punctuated, which is ironic given my allergy to commas (an actual comment on my 30k word submission for my creative writing class from the professor) (actually, the comment on the submission was "Commas are free. You don't have to pay to use them", but he did ask if I had a comma allergy at one point during the class. Do I know how to use them? Yes. Do I take the time to hit the button unless they're absolutely necessary for clarity in the sentence? No. That's an editing, Future Me problem and also one of the last things I add to any draft. I don't edit these that stringently.) This is a short mini album, barely qualifying to be one, but it does average out to over three minutes a song, so I'm happy. Also, if there are any FIX that would like me to cover one of their songs, feel free to drop it as a comment or in The Form or... I don't know. Somewhere. Love the cover art though. That's cool. Looks kind of Hunger Games. Also, given that they haven't had a win at an awards show in quite a few years, maybe not since debut, I'd like to see them get one.

I'm about to ruin this instrumental for people and I apologize. I am so sorry. It reminds me of the instrumental for Macarena. If it was any less repetitive, that would be the only thing I could hear. It's a little bit more science fiction-y, which is helpful for knowing that this is not that. There are some interesting little breaks and rests that interrupt the instrumental just long enough to bring your attention back to the song because it has stopped doing what your brain expects, which especially in these TikTok times is important as the length of the songs is increasing again to retrain us to listen to the longer songs. Thank goodness. The thing that I am unfortunately noticing the most about this instrumental track, other than the aforementioned sound-a-like with the 90s hit, is that the instrumental is steady enough that it is more or less the same all the way across the board, with the exception of the staccato rest and the longer one near the end when we get a briefly a cappella belt. The ending of the song it the most interesting, although that applies vocally as well, so I'm going to talk about that more there. Now, is the instrumental exactly the same all the way through? No. We do get some instrument additions and removals that get woven into the instrumental, but it is still predominately beat, and not melody or harmony. 

Vocally is where the interesting things are happening, and that's also why I'm not as upset about the instrumental have such a strong quality of sameness. The song stands out vocally, as a song being performed by singers should. I need to listen to this song with a stereo system because I highly suspect that it may play with left and right speakers given the amount of call-and-response as well as other various layering present. The song is a little bit on the high end, but there are spots where it goes lower than the song's equilibrium, particularly with the rapping.

This part is going to be short because I'm sad over certain enlistments right now and that's just how this is going to go. I was a little startled by the insubstantiality of the lyrics. The song doesn't tell as much of a story as I thought it was going to, which is a little reflective of the whole music video. Even though there's a decent amount of light storyline, I'm categorizing this under vibes and visuals. Not that attractive young men can't have their shirts off, as is obvious in the thumbnail, but it did feel a little like the director and/or company were doing this for going viral. Which is a shame, of course, but what can we do?

August 2025 Wrap-Up: The Witch is Back!

 Okay, everyone. Welcome back!!! It's been a hot minute since I've written one of these, but considering how many songs I didn't review over the course of the last three months, I didn't feel like I had enough done to warrant a wrap-up. Still, let's get to it! And yes, the title is a reference to the movie Hocus Pocus , but also, I absolutely adore Nina Simone's . High Priestess of Soul, indeed. Song Review:: ALL(H)OURS: SMOKE POINT- Graffiti {Pre-Release}

Release date: 2025 February 04 Album tracklist: Smoke Point,  Graffiti ,  GIMME GIMME , Kings & Queens, Freaky Fresh Album runtime: 12 minutes  I am aware that this group exists. I know they're a fairly recent boy group, but have no idea their company, the number of members, or debut year, and I do have two of their songs in one of my playlists, but they're my Junk Drawer playlist and haven't gotten to them yet. Ah! Seven member group under Eden Entertainment (which is now sort of a subsidiary of JYPE, I think?) that just had their one year anniversary. And because they're a recent debut, I have to check the ages, but they pass! As of December, they're all eighteen or older. So, if I like the song, I can add it to the playlists! Nice! Greatest Hits:: Stray Kids: My Pace

 I tossed some potentials at Tumblr in a poll and this was what came back in first place, so here we go! Yes, I've gone back to the wasteland that is Tumblr, discovered that I'm considered ancient and decrepit for how long I've HAD a Tumblr account, and had to relearn how to Tumblr. But, that's fine! My Pace is one of the songs that had to be rerecorded following the departure of the former ninth member, so I'm not quite sure how to navigate the differences. I really want to be respectful of the situation and try to find as many post-departure performances and events as I can, but it may not be especially possible in all cases.  So this lovely group left their company after a little over two years, founded their own company, and are now going by the name Skye as of 2023. So, yes, technically IN2IT is disbanded, but it's more of a B2ST/Highlight situation. I also found out that they did a cover of SHINee's An Encore  a few months ago, which delights me to no end because that's my favorite SHINee song, and they did a great job. This one was also recommended to me, and because I've never heard of this group before, I'm genuinely delighted by the idea that I get to cover a group I haven't heard of.  My first BBS request! I just saw some of the memes being made about their performance and the amount of space between Wendy and Jin, and I just have to say that they're hilarious and the amount of trolling I'm seeing from the fans gives me life. The timing is actually really helpful for me to get into fan mindset. This request comes from a user on Reddit, who simply said there was too much, they were obsessed, and then linked me to an appreciation post they'd done. This is what I like to see, and it gave me a very good place to start: Jin and Wendy's voices. As a side note, Jin really does have the perfect trot voice. This isn't even in that genre or anywhere approaching it, but that honestly doesn't change this fact about him. Hello, and welcome!      As his first album under the new company, I'm sure most fans approached it with mild or moderate hesitation.       Luckily, I don't necessarily think we need have worried too much.       The song opens with some grindy electric guitar, an element I have to admit I'm a fan of in general.  Unless I do The Roulette Wheel, I obviously can pick which of the suggestions I've gotten that I'll write posts for. I also have a spreadsheet where I have my posts organized by generation and boy group, girl group, and co-ed. The co-ed groups definitely need more attention, but I'm taking these last few Specialty posts to focus on the girl groups because they're not my natural inclination, and while the Roulette Wheel is weighted equally, I don't like that it's uneven. So, I ignored my normal addition of the B/G/Co-Ed Wheel spin and just did it for a girl group, and I ended up with LABOUM. I'm not sure I've heard of them, so this will be exciting.  LABOUM is a third gen girl group that are younger sisters to U-KISS and Brown Eyed Girls, which is wildly hilarious considering the last GH post I did was in fact for BEG's song Abracadabra . I'm just being clowned this year by my groups.  I could swear, I can feel that drum or bass in my bones, but I'm not even listening to it in a way that would allow me to feel it in my bones.
