Pre-release for their first full album! Whoo! How exciting! And it's over three minutes, so I couldn't be happier about it.
This is one of those times where there is so much going on vocally that my ears are kind of filtering out the instrumental so that I can better hear the vocals. Do I love it when that happens? Yes. But that does make it a little difficult for me to do this part. The places where my ears prick up the most and pay attention to the instrumental were mostly in the middle or the end. There is some interesting, high-pitched vocal mimicry going on. I'm not sure if whatever instrument that is is mimicking what's going on with the whistle, or if the whistle is mimicking the instrument. Realistically, I don't think it really matters in this instance which is which. There is also a saxophone that pokes its nose out toward the end, and that delighted me. But generally speaking, this instrumental is balanced in such a way that it accents the vocals, which is cool.
They remind me a little bit of LOONA and Dreamcatcher, vocally. We've got vibrato, which is what I want to be hearing, we've got fantastic vocal layering, and we've got that cool whistle that for these purposes, I'm counting as a belt. On top of all of this, they've got such a lovely, rich sound that feels well-supported and strong. I'm genuinely loving this.
The opening seven seconds are a little...interesting. Has anyone else seen the show Dollhouse with Eliza Dushku? Or played Cyberpunk 2077 with the concept of the Dolls? That's the vibe of where I think this concept is going, only the more sapphic version of that.
