Song Review:: PRIMROSE: Love Your Flower

     Girl group time! Because I'm late on doing this, but it seems that I don't want to finish the September review without having done this one first. I think I could probably really like this group if I spent more time with them, but then we run the risk of what happens to girl groups when I really like them. I seriously have the worst luck, but unfortunately, I adored Steal Heart. 

    Ooh, that guitar is fun. The energy is good to keep the song going without it straying too close to being active. What I will say is that sudden energy drop was highly unexpected, especially because the song felt like it was going the route of consistency. Steady beat, a little bit of the grungy guitar, largely non-distracting to support the vocals. The chorus got the predictable uptick in energy, but then the way the instrumental just kind of gets cut out from underneath the song at the start of the second verse startles me every time. 

    This is a butterfly type song. The vocals are breathy enough that I'm a little worried for the choreography style, but the melody is fluttery in a way that matches the song well. It's very pretty, and I suspect that it could be quite popular if people, especially girl group listeners, could actually get introduced to it. Vocally, it's a little too floaty for my taste, but I think it could get some good traction all the same.

    The music video matches the vocals well, and the choreography is very cute. In some points, it looks almost home-video in styling, but in others there's a sort of teen movie scrapbook aesthetic applied. Again, it's very lovely and very cute. It's a friendly music video, you know?

     Unless I do The Roulette Wheel, I obviously can pick which of the suggestions I've gotten that I'll write posts for.     Halloween Spookening: 2025 Edition

     It's the most wonderful time of the year!  I'm back with a new selection of Halloween themed or generally spooky songs for you all! Have I spent the year looking for new songs for my playlist? Yes. Yes, yes I have, so if you have anymore suggestions for me, give me the creepy doll songs, the predatory wolfy songs, the haunting and the eerie.     As I can't tell that there's a discernable actual title track from this album beyond what I've already covered, I'm just going to pick my favorite track of the bunch to review. It's been bothering me that I haven't done one when I was so diligent with the tracks with the music videos. This album is a massive undertaking, and I genuinely don't know which ones are new songs and which are old. But I know at least this one is a b-side because there is absolutely no corresponding music video. Also, what a flex. Twentieth Japanese anniversary. King of Kings, indeed.      This group has a grand total of 2500 listeners a month on Spotify, so I'm super happy that the submitter decided to give this song to me. Let's see if we can introduce more people to them. I've also never actually heard of this group before so chances are, you and I are both going to be going on this venture into this b-side and group together for the first time. This is the group I thought would be more like xikers than TWS, and I was very wrong about that. Or at least I was with the last song they released that I covered. Which was amusing, but I've also got a suspicion that this one might get a win on a music show. Haven't heard it yet. But I've got a feeling that the possibility is there. If I'm right, I'm going to be rather excited for the group which is the Ship of Theseus. If I'm wrong, well, they have a title track coming out as well soon, so that can be another attempt by the fans.     Music Show Wins:: Week of 10/15 - 10/21

      With Chuseok well and truly over for the year, we have all the music shows giving us first place winners on their charts! This hasn't happened in over a month! Also, now that triple crowns have been won, I got to share other performances from other groups! We've got four  first song wins, and one of those is a first time win for the group as a whole! Yay! Baksu! And even though those aren't recent performances for the two IVE wins, I shared them anyway because I like having a full set of performances. Also, with After School Club still on hiatus as far as I know, I decided to give y'all a group I've started listening to more because they've got some nice Halloween-y songs: episode 537 with TRI.BE!     Music Show Wins:: Week of 10/01 - 10/07

     We're already in October. Goodness. You know, it might be interesting for me to go through and tally how many groups got how many wins this year, and how many times each music show had a winner for an end of year music show summary post. I don't know. I'll have to think about it. That might be fun though. Y'all have all the raw data already and I could make pie charts and bar charts and... Sorry, I'm math nerd-ing again.  Two exciting things happened this week! First, we got two triple crowns this week! The only way I would be happier is if it was for a song that I could have given you more stage performances for, but that is super exciting! Congrats to the group! And, something that I have been rooting for since they debuted in January because they have had the absolute worst luck with timing, KickFlip got their first win! I couldn't be happier!     Music Show Wins:: Week of 2025 01/01 - 01/07

      We didn't get any of the music shows for the first part of the week because of the mourning period. Starting with Music Bank , we got a return to a song that had a couple of weeks without a win, and as soon as I saw the name, I started laughing. And then for Inkigayo , we got another older song. YG supremacy. For After School Club (ASC), the hip-hop girl group YOUNG POSSE were the guests. I found them to be delightfully adorable. There wasn't an MC challenge, which made me a little sad because that's my favorite segment, but I was very entertained by the members regardless. The link for the episode is included as always.      Summoned for you directly from The Form, it's ironically a song from the same album that I've already done a BBS post from. I chose to do Darling  because of the roulette wheel and shuffle, so that one's on me. But apparently someone out there in the world really likes this album to slide the title track my way as well.  So, I was technically focusing on the repackage album of this for Darling , so you get sort of new information. Released in 2011, this was their first full album. Containing a grand total of thirteen tracks and a runtime of 43 minutes, which averages out to a little more than three minutes a song, it's at a good length, even with the first track dropping the average. It did pretty well on the charts, peaking at second on the Gaon weekly chart and third on the Gaon monthly chart.
