Song Review:: Jessi (Lucky J): P.M.S (Pretty Mood Swings): Girls Like Me

 In honor of the song they did together for Waterbomb last year, I’m going to do her song next. I don’t know that I’ve actually listened to any of her songs yet, but I do know that I enjoy seeing the content that she does with the idols because she seems hilarious. I also haven’t gotten around to listening to the album she released earlier this year. 

This is a very clean instrumental. Its purpose is essentially to provide a beat for her, and it fulfills its purpose perfectly. I’m not sure what brass instrument that is that’s hanging out, but it’s reminding me so much of a superhero movie. I’m going to be humming it until I figure that out. I’ve got red in my head, and there’s fighting happening. I keep thinking Captain America, but I have that soundtrack and that’s not in there. And I don’t think it’s Marvel, so it’s got to be DC. Superman? If I’m vaguely recognizing it, that would match either Batman or Superman, but with the song topic, I don’t think they’d be the— Wonder Woman! That’s when she’s in the trenches! That’s why I kept circling around Captain America because they’ve both got war movies. Okay. We’re good. 

I love a confident woman. I’m starting to get a list of things I look for with rappers, and one of them is a deliberateness to what they’re doing. Singing requires you to hear and feel the melody. Rapping requires the beat and because of that, not hitting that makes the song feel a little bit sloppy. I’m bringing this up with her because she’s got a fabulous weight to her rapping that makes every syllable land, and I love that. She’s clear with her enunciation. This is good. I also really appreciate that we get both rapping and vocals from her because she’s got a gorgeous voice as well. This is really good. I may have to actually listen to the rest of the album. Explicit language warning though.

She reminds me a bit of Beyonce. Also, her thighs are gorgeous. This is a vibes and visuals music video, with a hefty dose of choreography. Drop that thang, girl.

Song Review:: Yesung (Super Junior): It's Complicated- It's Complicated

  Release date: 2024 November 05 Album tracklist: It's Complicated , There She Goes Again, Easy, Beautiful Paradox, Curtain Album runtime: 16 minutes  So, I find it kind of cute, actually, that Yesung had a comeback on their 19th anniversary. Happy 19th! Happy 6th Mini Album! And the average song length is more than three minutes. This is the second ballad-esque release from a soloist in a group today, but the two are not the same. There's a sense of showy drama to this one that also takes advantage of my exhaustion and lulls me into wanting to sleep to it, despite the fierce energy that is pulsing even from the start of the song. How does that work? Not a clue. But it's weirdly soothing.  Not a huge fan of his tone at the beginning of the song, even though he reminds me of a lower version of Taemin (and also a little bit of JYP the dude), but when he lets his voice loose, it clarifies into something amazing. Song Review:: Solar (MAMAMOO): Solar Gamsung Part 8.- First Love

Release date: 2024 October 29 Album tracklist: First Love , Love Letter Album runtime: 7 minutes  Solar, the queen you are. The word 감성 in Korean apparently translates to "sensitivity", and I'd be willing to bet that because she has eight of these now, she uses them to release songs she wants to do, instead of ones that match the concept or whatever of the albums. And if the two songs on this one are any indication, she may use them to do her ballads that require no choreography. It doesn't go quite as hard as a Phil Collins song, but this is a full 80s soft rock ballad. This is a slow dance at prom song. This is also an ending credits song for a Disney movie. If this was a Western song, this would be a waving lighter song. You could use the phone flashlight, but realistically, this song vibes with a lighter being used instead. Sole) , 123 Dance  Album runtime: 18 minutes  Yes, the album is already out, but I wanted to get to this one first because if he gets a win for the album, a win on this one will likely come first. Also, I thought the present he got from Kai, I think, was so sweet. I love that. Wholesome support from the members. Ooh, that's some smooth and swanky R&B. That's actually really nice. It's slow and mellow, but it's not flimsy. The beat is really pronounced, though unhurried. This is an early Sunday morning kind of song, or perhaps a Tuesday night kind of song. Slow dancing in the kitchen to a song only the two of you can hear. Music Show Wins:: Week of 11/05 - 11/11

  Am I quite disappointed? Yes. But, even being a xikers fan, I'm happy for AHOF for their win. Still! It's not over! I trust that they'll eventually get a win (what I am counting as a win is Wrecking the House being #16 on Billboard, so there's that). Congrats to &TEAM, NMIXX, and AHOF for their music show wins this week!! I feel so bad for the rookie and small groups for this loss. Moving forward, I may include winners from random episodes, because until something replaces the program, I'm going to quietly protest its cancelation and the affect it's going to have. Song Review:: MEOVV: MEOW {Debut}

Release date: 2024 September 06 Album tracklist: MEOW Album runtime: 3 minutes I'm always tentatively excited to see new groups debut. In this case, I'm not sure about the relationship between their company, TheBlackLabel, and YG. I know they're closely linked, but I'm not positive about what specifically is going on there. Oh, well. Hopefully MEOVV and BABYMONSTER get along. It would probably make life uncomfortable if they don't. I like that they vibe like a boy group. They're still feminine, but they're not girly, which is a change of pace, welcome for me though there isn't anything wrong with the girlier groups. They actually remind me a lot of 2NE1, without the particular timely trappings that come with a 2009 debut. But it's like if 2NE1 had debuted this year instead of 2009, stylistically.
