Song Review:: Rocky (ASTRO): Forever and Ever- Forever and Ever

 I don't know about you, but I'm delighted to be able to post reviews for both Eunwoo and Rocky side by side, as I very pointedly gesture to the title of this review. And we get almost four minutes of song with the instrumental as a separate track. I'm so happy about this. That being said, I did miss a release Rocky did at the end of August. Will I get to it? I intend to, but there are no guarantees.

This sounds like a happy song, and I'm all about that. I like the way that the twinkling and the guitar work together, because it gives the song a nuanced sound. But you know what I'm happiest about in this song? There's an entire section that is solely dedicated to audience participation clapping! We've got another one, folks! That has been sorely lacking of late unless I simply just missed any, which is always possible, but the presence of it, especially late in the song as it is, gives the song a good energy boost that it needs in this day and age of two-and-a-half minute songs. I can practically see the live performance already, and I want it. It does have some early audience participation snapping, but the clapping is always superior to that, and we get both. Lovely.

I already love it. Sold. Done. That's it. Literally ten seconds in and I'm hitting that big red button to turn my chair around. He's giving us vibrato, y'all! November is giving us some late-game heavy-hitters in the vocal department. Isn't he normally a rapper too? (Also, I just found out he has a specific fandom color and I'm in love. That's a gorgeous color.) Well, yes, but he shares something with BTOB's Minhyuk besides just a name. A rapper with a gorgeous, gorgeous voice. I'm glad that he shows it off here. His voice is a little higher than I expected, but it's fine. Oh, I'm so satisfied by this.

Almost five minutes of music video. Can I say I'm a little bit in love? Also that I'm easy to please? Rocky reminds me of a combination of SF9's Taeyang and Stray Kids's Lee Know in his face and the way he smiles. There's also a moment where he looks kind of like NU'EST's JR and... who is the Enhypen member? I can't attach any of those names to their faces right now. So it seems like I've found another cluster of look-a-likes. And he is adorable with the dogs. Anyway. Moving on. Hold up, does this count as a Christmas MV? I think it does. So that's going to be tagged appropriately and added to this year's Christmas Caroling post. All of this to say that this is such a sweet and wholesome slice of life music video that I kind of want to throw my shoe in a lake from how cute it is.

September 2025 Wrap-Up: School's Back From Summer

 Hello, everyone! At some point, I'm going to feel confident enough in my Korean skills to have part of this in Korean, but today and this month is not that point.  So the fabulous, amazing debuts for the month. The ones I covered were AxMxP and IDID for the groups, CxM for the Seventeen subunit, and soloists Haechan of NCT , Jinny of Secret Number , Junhee of A.C.E , and Nana of After School . Song Review:: Chanyeol (EXO): Upside Down - Happy Accident {Pre-Release}

Sole) , 123 Dance  Album runtime: 18 minutes  Yes, the album is already out, but I wanted to get to this one first because if he gets a win for the album, a win on this one will likely come first. Also, I thought the present he got from Kai, I think, was so sweet. I love that. Wholesome support from the members. Ooh, that's some smooth and swanky R&B. That's actually really nice. It's slow and mellow, but it's not flimsy. The beat is really pronounced, though unhurried. This is an early Sunday morning kind of song, or perhaps a Tuesday night kind of song. Slow dancing in the kitchen to a song only the two of you can hear. Song Review:: Yesung (Super Junior): It's Complicated- It's Complicated

  Release date: 2024 November 05 Album tracklist: It's Complicated , There She Goes Again, Easy, Beautiful Paradox, Curtain Album runtime: 16 minutes  So, I find it kind of cute, actually, that Yesung had a comeback on their 19th anniversary. Happy 19th! Happy 6th Mini Album! And the average song length is more than three minutes. This is the second ballad-esque release from a soloist in a group today, but the two are not the same. There's a sense of showy drama to this one that also takes advantage of my exhaustion and lulls me into wanting to sleep to it, despite the fierce energy that is pulsing even from the start of the song. How does that work? Not a clue. But it's weirdly soothing.  Not a huge fan of his tone at the beginning of the song, even though he reminds me of a lower version of Taemin (and also a little bit of JYP the dude), but when he lets his voice loose, it clarifies into something amazing. Song Review:: Solar (MAMAMOO): Solar Gamsung Part 8.- First Love

Release date: 2024 October 29 Album tracklist: First Love , Love Letter Album runtime: 7 minutes  Solar, the queen you are. The word 감성 in Korean apparently translates to "sensitivity", and I'd be willing to bet that because she has eight of these now, she uses them to release songs she wants to do, instead of ones that match the concept or whatever of the albums. And if the two songs on this one are any indication, she may use them to do her ballads that require no choreography. It doesn't go quite as hard as a Phil Collins song, but this is a full 80s soft rock ballad. This is a slow dance at prom song. This is also an ending credits song for a Disney movie. If this was a Western song, this would be a waving lighter song. You could use the phone flashlight, but realistically, this song vibes with a lighter being used instead. Song Review:: Daesung (BIGBANG): Falling Slowly

  Release date: 2024 March 05 Album tracklist: Falling Slowly , Light Album runtime: 7 minutes Ah, a proper song length. I'm writing this before the frantic rush of the next few days in terms of releases, because competition there will be fierce. And also to start to pad out the March releases because somebody had to get a win on a music show months later. I joke. I'm actually very happy for them. And I picked this one because I scrolled randomly, and his was the one my cursor was on when I stopped. I feel like Daesung needs very little introduction. He is the maknae of BIGBANG after all.  The instrumentals for this song are absolutely gorgeous with a lovely acoustic guitar that gets to spend time at the front of the song, before it hands over the reigns to an electric for very strategic sections. Battle of the B-Sides: LABOUM: 빛이 되어쥐 (Be the Light)

 Unless I do The Roulette Wheel, I obviously can pick which of the suggestions I've gotten that I'll write posts for. I also have a spreadsheet where I have my posts organized by generation and boy group, girl group, and co-ed. The co-ed groups definitely need more attention, but I'm taking these last few Specialty posts to focus on the girl groups because they're not my natural inclination, and while the Roulette Wheel is weighted equally, I don't like that it's uneven. So, I ignored my normal addition of the B/G/Co-Ed Wheel spin and just did it for a girl group, and I ended up with LABOUM. I'm not sure I've heard of them, so this will be exciting.  LABOUM is a third gen girl group that are younger sisters to U-KISS and Brown Eyed Girls, which is wildly hilarious considering the last GH post I did was in fact for BEG's song Abracadabra .
