Song Review:: EPITHYMiA: My EPYTHIMiA {Japanese}

  • Release date: 2025 December 05

  • Album tracklist: My EPITHYMiA

  • Album runtime: 3 minutes

 I'm just doing the Japanese releases right now apparently. They've got an album coming out soon, and I don't know if this is a pre-release for it or not. If it ends up being one, then I'll be sure to mark it appropriately when the time comes. For now, I'm treating it as a single. Again, this group is ludicrously active on YouTube. They literally do 2-3 lives a day.

Why does this sound like an anime intro song? It's put together a little bit interestingly, with that guitar opening and then it takes almost half the song for it to come back, almost like it's being used sparingly. Given the style of the drums, I'm surprised by that. There is a guitar solo, which is a pretty good indication that that's going to be a dance break when I get a look at the choreography, and it comes at a really good spot in the song energy-wise.

One of them sings in his nose, giving him a very distinct sound in the context of the rest of the group. I think where I'd like to see them strengthen up is the shift between head and falsetto because some of them are a little bit unstable with that transition. They've got great low notes, and their mid and head voices are pretty good too. It's just that transition, and if they're going to continue with high songs, not that this is a particularly high song throughout, it would probably be a good idea. Still, this is still a fairly young group and they're about as indie as you can get, so I'm not holding them to the same expectations that someone with the weight of a large company behind them would have, but they have potential. You can even hear the growth between their earlier songs and this one, so I'm fully confident that as they get more experienced and more strongly skilled, we'll get some great voices out of them. You can hear that potential.

Okay, this is one of my favorite genres of music video: the compilation. It's also part lyric video, so it's doing double duty, and I like that. It's really heartwarming.
