Song Review:: EXO: REVERXE- I'm Home {Pre-Release}

  • Release date: 2025 December 13

  • Album tracklist: I'm Home

  • Album runtime: 3 minutes

 I missed out on being around for EXO's 7th album by about a month, although even though I wasn't listening to K-Pop quite yet, I was definitely on my way because I was on episode 4 of Alchemy of Souls on the 7th, and I remember this because I told my friend about it and how funny it was when we went to the Bryan Adams/Joan Jett concert together. Did I also use the songs up for MAMA's Song of the Year to get to know K-Pop in general that year? Yes, and that means that I did listen to Cream Soda a bit, but there were a lot of songs on that list and I was focused on Wind and Wish because that was BTOB's song that had come out that year and was up for it. I have the playlist of those songs saved still. So, long story short, this is my first comeback with EXO, who is one of my beloved 2012 groups, and it's not even the full group because SM sucks. I think I've summed up the situation. I'm also having to use the music video and then just switch tabs because I try not to pay attention to the music video until I'm on that section because I will get distracted.

They're giving me strings too? They're quite prevalent in the beginning, and then they're buried beneath the beat for the most part through the song, but they do rise from the depths every once in a while. The beat is quite visible, but we get bells and chimes with it, and given the timing of the release, I'm going to mark this as a Christmas song. But even when it's mostly the beat you hear, you still get little touches of a melody, which satisfies me.

This is a gorgeous song. There's a reason why I've got so many of their songs in my Christmas playlist. But, look, if you know only one thing about EXO, it's that they have famed vocalists. I've noted that myself on several of the solo songs I've done, because even their rappers have gorgeous voices. The other thing that we get a lot of the time with EXO is we get harmonies and vocal layering and choral bits to a lot of their songs. Honestly, their voices are kind of shutting my brain off, which doesn't happen a whole lot, and I love when that happens because I finally get quiet. It's maybe 1 in a 100. Maybe. If that. So this is going into quite a few playlists when the album drops.

Oh, look. Snow. I do get to count this as a Christmas song. This is a comeback. From what I understand of their lore, because keeping track of SM group lore is almost a full time job, they each have powers. This definitely has a storyline, by the way, and with that in mind, I can't decide if it's a case where they didn't have their powers for a time and they're just getting them back, or if they haven't been using them for whatever reason but they're just starting back up with that. But I'd guess that it's one or the other. But, honestly and truly, even without the science fiction/fantasy element to it, this is such a poignant song and absolutely perfect for their first song back as a group in over two years. They're rebuilding their abandoned house. The metaphor there, you guys.
